Water in Venice is not at all crystal-clear as in the game: it's dark, muddy and rats swim in there. :(

I actually think it looks rather dirty in the game, it's green.

Not as dirty as the water in London in TR3 but TR2 is from 1997.

I remember a caption for a screenshot of the game, from Italy's top selling pc game magazine at the time: "at least, abroad everybody still thinks that Venice water is clear".

Ah-ah, so I got you even if you pretend you didn't think like that! :ton:

C'mon, if that were to happen, then it would be on the news, saying venezia's water is contaminated with E. Coli!

this has been all over the news in the UK all day. Even on the front pages of the tabloids.
Apparently they're holding a special G8 summit to try and calm public unrest.

Not.

I don't really understand all the sarcastic comments in this thread.

xdiesp had something to say and said it. If the popular conception is that the thread is without substance then why post in it at all?

I don't know how their sewage system works, so I doubt I would ever swim in the canals/ streets. Let alone under water. (Look mum, it's a polly waffle!)
Unless of course some one was shooting at me!

I heard that some actress (I don't remember her name) had to dive into the canals of Venice for a movie and she got a serious eye infection! So, I'm going to guess that the water is not clean at all.

In any case, this game is noting compared to the crystal-clear waters they had in Casino Royale at the end of that movie. I mean, at least the waters in TR2 were a greenish color.

I wish they made the water blue-green. :)

Okay, so, I don't know if you guys care but I found what actress got the eye infection. It was Katharine Hepburn. She was filming the movie "Summertime" in 1955. If the waters were that dirty 52 years ago, they must be horrible now. (That is to say they haven't cleaned them at all.)

I haven't actually been but I have heard that the canals do smell a tad rotten on hot sultry days.......

Don't the Venetians have plans to enclose the city to avoid flooding from sea level rise? Ugh, it will keep all the pollution in!

Many picture Venice like that http://alumni.ucsd.edu/magazine/vol2no3/images/feat/venice.jpg
(miniatures)

While it is like that... Trust me, I have been there. And its only natural for the waters to be this way. It's not some protected lake, it's a "city road"

lol, I have been to Venice, and yeah, the water there in real life is dirty looking & smelly. But I guess for the game, they had to make it so you could see what you are doing under it :)

Probably Core Design just wants us to prevent diving in the dirty Venice waters and getting ill and won't being able to play TR2 anymore :jmp:
