Hey All
Im due to reinstall TR 1 and the others (due to recent hard drive issues) and i wondered if anyone has any glidos issues that i should be aware of before i install and purchase it?. Will the music actually work in TR1?. I know each pc is different, but is it guarenteed to make the game better by purchasing it?.

BrumRaider
yes, 100% guaranteed.
i am just mopping up a couple of minor issues, such as echoey voices in one of the cutscenes, which can be fixed by unchecking a box in the menu, but if i uncheck it the title music plays over the intro. weird!
but, hey, don't let that put you off. glidos makes TR1 the prettiest out of the first 5 games. and paul, the creator, is very quick to help with any such issues.
download it.:tmb:

Thanks Tizerist & Fraaadrik
I guess its a "must have" if you wanna play the original on the pc. Its the best in the series for me, so its a no brainer now after reading your comments. :D

Ok so i got it installed and im using the demo of glidos as recommended. It looks great, runs great, there is background sounds, but i cannot hear any music. When is the first music supposed to be triggered?. I want to see if it does actually work before buying it, so if anyone knows when the first piece of music is meant to kick in then id appreciate it. I thought it was at the first meeting with the wolves after pulling the first lever but maybe im wrong??.
Btw i should add i got the glidos spinning logo from the very beginning.

Apart from the music playing during the ring menu theres no music played in the PC game. You can download the additional audio packs from the Glidos site which work with Glidos exclusively to add the missing music for the first 10 levels AFAIK.
The Logo shouldn't be there from the start though...

Actually thats why I stopped using Glidos, and switched to dgVoodoo, although I'm not sure if dgVoodoo will have the music... we will see...

dgVoodoo doesn't contain any music it's simply a graphics enhancer. Theres a slight confusion going on here, Glidos audio packs enhance the existing music that most people already have but the Sold Out CD you have doesn't contain any music at all. :)

Yeah sorry I was confusing myself over that, its actually VDMSound that allows you to use the audio packs to play the music right?
Yeah Sold Out suck!, I would at least expect them to include something as important as the music in the Tomb Raiders they have on the shop shelves! :(
Ah well, I should be thankful this brilliant site is here to help me out. :D

I thought it was only the sold out version that had no music due to it being corrputed?. I have the Eidos platinum collection version so should the music work ok?. Oh and i found out that using the glidos demo if you have an earlier version of the game the spinning logo is supposed to be there from the beginning. So the only way i can get music is if i download the additional audio packs?. And even doing that its not gonna be the full game just 10 levels?. If thats the case then i guess i can go thru it with no music tho its gonna suck. Atleast i wont have to get Glidos i suppose.
Thanks

Nope, VDMsound is a DOS emulator that lets DOS applications run on NT-based systems. ;) The Glidos audio packs are MP3 audio that is programmed into Glidos to play at certain points. The missing CD audio is audio tracks on the CD that are played by the game itself. They're quite separate.

The music is simply missing from the Sold Out software CD's, possibly due to licencing restrictions? No-one is sure why AFAIK.

The music should play on the Eidos edition, at least during the Ring Menu. Theres no more music in the game unless you count the ambient sounds. Maybe you're thinking of the PlayStation and Sega Saturn versions? They do have more music that plays during the game, thats what the Glidos audio packs are for, to supply the missing music for the first 10 levels, no-one has gotten around to doing it for the rest. But they're exclusive to Glidos they wont' work with dgVoodoo. :)
Correction: it's 6 levels not 10. My bad.

Btw, I just downloaded the "Glidos Exclusive Audio Pack" for Tomb Raider 1, and it works fine with dgVoodoo, haha :ton:

Nonsense Portilisback! They're only capable of playing ingame with Glidos 1.33 and above. (http://www.glidos.net/audio.html?lang=en)
You must be thinking of the TRC audio pack. (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/traudio.html)

Yes i get the audio at the beginning of the game. You know when the menu ring spins?. That works fine, but none during the game. I do remember having it on the PS and your correct i must of been thinking of that. Damn i loved the music also, and im really suprised no one has created it so that it works fully on the PC, bcus to me its what makes the game perfect. To loose that you may as well cut off your ears. Looks like its no music

Do you have a Playstation disc? It's possible to play the PSX version on the PC using an emulator such as ePSXe. Works quite nicely on my PC. There are others available although I can't think of any just know, it's late and I'm tired.

Thanks Chug a Bug
Well i have a PS2 so i could just look online for the ps version and use that. Or just look for a local video games store that may carry it. Ok the graphics will suck, but where these games are concerned you can look past that, as its the gameplay that counts.
Ebay and Amazon my 2 best friends :)
