I have played soooo many, and I still own most of them. The others I gave to the Black Hole that is my nieces and nephews. I am scanning the boxes for the images. Here is a start, anyone play this one by any chance?

It was a thrilling game, one that recreated Arnold's Terminator very well. So much to do and use in the game, and the graphics were awesome for it's time.

I almost bought that game, but was talked out of it by a buddy who said I would not like it. And at that time there were so many titles I was playing (including Tomb Raider!)

I have that somewhere, I bought it for my nieces and nephews to play when they came over. Or perhaps I gave it away. don't know.

Croc 2 :D, it got horrible reviews, but I loved it anyway.

I remembered that I used to play the Zoo Tycoon games and American McGee's Alice. I bought that game three times and got rid of it each time. :vlol: The first time I played it I got very little sleep that night because I was scared. The characters are so deformed and demonic looking. Don't even get me started on the music. I never could finish that game without using cheats. Here's the cover:

Judging by the cover, you can pretty much find out why I found it scary.

Croc 2? That's the kind of game that I would not have played, too arcade for me. I recall one of my nieces had it for her console though. :)

However, here is a game that every Tomb Raider fan should have played back then. Released in 1996 (what a coincidence) it was a truly incredible experience and is in my top 5 all-time games. It had everything that an adventure game needs, and more.

Here is an interesting but brief review (http://www.justadventure.com/reviews/Azraels_Tear/Azraels_Tear.shtm) of the game.

You are quite correct, that game freaked me out. A truly creepy experience to say the least. A neighbor gave me the game after he found out that his 11 year old was having trouble sleeping after playing it. I pointed out that the game was rated "M" and that he should never have purchased it for such a young girl and he said "But I thought it was Alice In Wonderland"! I said, "look at the cover". :D

Its an oldie. But you can find some info here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outpost_(computer_game)).

Didn't you say you were an ex-military guy Eddie? Another game that seemed to just find a niche audience was Full Spectrum Warrior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_spectrum_warrior) (if you haven't played it don't read the story line section of the wikipedia site). A great military strategy game. Underappreciated.

Heheheh, yes we did use a variant of that game for training purposes. It is actually quite good, and I am very adept at playing it. But it's hardly not-so-famous...;) :)

Oh I loved that game! It's still one of my favourites after all these years and many technically more advanced games. My favourite area has to be the black-white chess set, the looking glass land,..
Maybe I liked it so much cause I loved the original Alice as a kid...

Syberia and Syberia 2... I don't think they were ever too popular in the mainstream.

The story just kept me intrigued so much. I played both for hours and hours.

Mechwarrior 2 (1995) was a groundbreaking game. Featuring tremendous combat, superlative futuristic music, splendid graphics and a wonderful story it occupied a good chunk of my free time that year. The player literally built their own giant Mechwarrior, choosing a frame and your choice of weapon systems. I still play this game today.

I have Syberia, it was a fun game. I remember receiving my PC Gamer magazine in the mail and loading the demo's on it every month. Syberia was one that convinced me to buy the actual game. :)

I never played that one, but this naval warfare game was overplayed by me back in '95. Great Naval Battles IV had a rousing (but quite fitting) musical soundtrack, quite realistic and detailed ships for it's time, the ability to go from ship to ship or fleet to fleet in real time, and intense action. I seriously doubt that any of you in here played this one, unless we have another older, die-hard naval simulation fan here...:)

oh man I have a lot of those.

Here's a few:

These are Lithtech games and fairly recent.
Nina Agent Chronicles -
Mob Enforcer
Die Hard: Nakatomi - I actually had the original based on the Duke3d engine (maybe) years ago.

But when you think about it there are many games out there that were just not very popular because of various reasons. How you classify not-so-famous, as with the games I listed and others have listed here the names of the games are familiar and with the internet almost every game has a website or fan site securing it's place in the game world.

Lithtech games (my favorite) are a good example of low popularity games. Most all Lithtech games like the NOLF series could (and should ) have been among the most popular of games. I still have people in the gaming business ask me what the No One Lives Forever game is about. Bad marketing, up against heavy competetion, or whatever who knows. Those that play NOLF2 usually become fans but it's getting them to play that's always been tough. Maybe it's the engine, games that are based on more popular engines may have a better chance of success.

Certainly games that are buggy straight out of the box reduces their popularity. Games focused on small fanbases effect sales also. Marketing techniques, pricing, competetion, game engine are some I've already mentioned but I'm sure there are many more reasons for a game to have a lack of popularity in the main stream gaming community.

If you want to see just how popular a game is 1 year after it's release then go to a general gaming forum not one dedicated to one game. Ignore all posts on new games made within a year and search for older games. How many people will remember Path Of Neo two years from now?

Boy, you and I sure choose different types of games. Never played any of those, it just goes to show you all the variety that was/is out there.

Great points about "popularity", my choice of title for this thread is subjective really. I mean, Mechwarrior 2 was a pretty popular game no doubt.

Anyone ever played Shadowmaster? It's so hard, I never managed to get past the 2nd level!

I'd put a picture here, but I can't find a single one on the net. That's about how popular it was, I'd guess. Tried searching for it on GameSpot and GameFAQs also, but they don't even have it recorded there.
