The main concept

In ancient Greece, the passion of two of history's most legendary lovers, Paris, Prince of Troy and Helen, Queen of Sparta, ignites a war that will devastate a civilization. When Paris steals Helen away from her husband, King Menelaus, it is an insult that cannot be suffered. Familial pride dictates that an affront to Menelaus is an affront to his brother Agamemnon, powerful King of the Myceneans, who soon unites all the massive tribes of Greece to steal Helen back from Troy in defense of his brother's honor. One man alone stands as the key to victory or defeat over Troy Achilles, believed to be the greatest warrior alive.

Achilles: Brad Pitt
Paris: Orlando Bloom
Helen: Diane Kruger
Menelaus: Brendan Gleeson
Agamemnon: Brian Cox

I have aways been interested in Greek/Roman/Egyptian history. Lets hope it is as good as Gladiator. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Simon, what you will see in the movie is a tiny reference of what really happened in Troy. If you are interested in learning the true story, you need to read Homer's Iliad - the story of the Trojan War http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I can't wait til that one comes out. I've always loved theatrical (cinema & literature) illustrations of Troy, I'm hoping this one will be as good as some I've seen

Yes, I'm sure we will get Holywoods interpretation of Homer's Iliad. Oh well http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-3.gif

I have read that there are some parts in the movie that have nothing to do with the real story. But I hope the general result to please me, because the actors are great and the trailer showed me a good job http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

If only they had chosen a less typical American-looking actor for the role of Achilles... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif

On the other hand, Orlando Bloom seems to be a good choice for Paris http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

This film looks fab.

I sometimes work with an actor called John Shrapnel who is in this film (he was in Gladiator too). About a year ago he was telling me about filming it in Malta and Mexico - great fun...aaah, to be an actor...
