Thanks to Codemasters, the non-profit making science fiction and gaming organisation, Infinite Frontiers, is running a competition for PC owners to win a copy of Colin McRae Rally 3 for the PC on its sci-fi / gaming website, as part of our first anniversary celebrations!

Our website celebrated its first birthday on Monday 9th June 2003, and we have been running a series of competitions, events, and new additions to our family of websites. This latest competition, which closes on 30th June 2003, is free to enter, and is open to all UK residents, with the exception of employees of Codemasters, their family and agents working on behalf of Codemasters.

The competitions can be found through our site www.infinitefrontiers.org (http://www.infinitefrontiers.org) in the new Competitions section. Additional information on the competition, plus an opportunity to ask questions about this an other competitions that we are running, can be found on our forum at http://ifonline.proboards4.com

The Prizes

We have three copies of the game to give away, and the winners will be drawn at random from all the correct entries received to the question on the website. The game is a new version of the PS2 / XBox hit, and delivers the same hi-octane racing across a range of rally circuits around the world.

The Game

Colin McRae Rally 3 makes a massive leap in terms of playability, motor sport detail, rich visuals and the perfect rally car handling the series is renowned for. Above all, it delivers a game that captures every drop of sweat, the 150 decisions a minute, and the teamwork that goes into actually being Colin McRae in recognition of his three years with Ford Rallye Sport.

Colin McRae Rally 3 has a level of visual and technical detail that surpasses any other racer. It provides a breathtaking sense of being on, and often, off the road in a fully weighted and authentically functioning Ford Focus RS WRC.

This level of detail effectively gives players a Focus simulator to take on the rally stages, which are all designed exclusively for intense gameplay. McRae's co-driver while with Ford, Nicky Grist, personally pace-noted every stage featured in the game as he would for a real rally.

However, it's not just the Ford Focus RS WRC that gets this incredible in-game replication. Beyond the main championship mode, you can drive all of the game's featured cars, implemented to the same standard as the Focus.

Featured cars include: Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 7, Subaru Impreza WRX 44S, Citroen Xsara Kit Car, Ford Puma Rally, Citroen Saxo Kit Car, Fiat Punto Super 1600, MG ZR and the Ford RS200. Also featured are classic and bonus cars.

The main championship game is a gruelling series of races across eight international rallies: Japan, Spain, USA, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Australia and the UK are all included offering tarmac, gravel, dirt, and rain-soaked road surfaces.

The championship game pummels players through a three-year deal. Like the professionals, you'll compete in the full year and drive in every rally. Fall foul on a stage or damage the Focus beyond immediate repair and you'll be retired from that particular rally without the all-important championship points. The driving seat beckons at the beginning of the next rally, but points will have to be made up to stand a chance of becoming a champion.

The game is being released on Friday 13th June 2003.

Other Competitions

We are still running two other competitions at the moment. Our Evil Dead: Fistful Of Boomstick competition is running on the website offering a range of game and movie-related prizes, and we are also running a competition for our forum members giving them a chance to win a selection of gaming accessories. All of these are free to enter.

Other Developments

We are continuing to source games and applications to give away freely through our retro downloads service, and we are especially expanding and enhancing our 8-bit retro collection including a vast number of titles from Anco, Llamasoft and 8-bit adventure legend, Scott Adams. We now have games online for 9 different formats (Amiga, Amstrad, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, Commodore 16, Commodore 64, PC, Spectrum, and Vic 20) with other titles just awaiting final testing before they go online shortly for two additional platforms - BBC and MSX.

We have a number of CD-ROM titles in ISO format for download as well as disk image files and files for use with emulators. We are constantly in negotiations and discussions with a large number of publishers and we hope to make some more announcements about these shortly...

With all of the games and applications that we are making available freely, we have secured permission to include these titles on our site. Unlike "abandonware" websites, everything on Infinite Frontiers Online is included with the backing of the authors and/or publishers and as such, the downloads are completely legal. At the moment, a large number of companies are supporting our work to-date and we now have products (or clearance for titles coming soon) from the following publishers and developers:-

Scott Adams (most 8-bit formats!)

Anco aka Anirog (Amiga, Amstrad, Atari ST, Commodore 16, Commodore 64, PC, Spectrum, Vic 20 and more!)

Apogee aka 3D Realms (PC)

CDV (PC)

Cloanto (Amiga)

Distant Suns (Amiga, PC)

Emurasoft (PC)

Infinite Frontiers / CD Gold (Amiga)

Llamasoft (Atari, BBC Model-B, Commodore 16, Commodore 64, MSX, Spectrum, Vic 20)

Mutation Software (Amiga)

Revolution Software (Amiga, Atari ST)

Robinson Technologies (PC)

Mark Sibly (Amiga)

Tuna Technologies (Amiga)

Vulcan Software (Amiga)

Many people remember these old classics from their youth, and we wanted to bring these back to a new audience without the need to resort to piracy. All of these were deleted years ago or made freely available, and they have now become rare items to source the originals. For many people, they are left with little choice but to scour auction sites online to find these classics, and even then there is no guarantee that they can find what they are looking for.

Support Forum

As always we are offering free advice and technical support for all our downloads through our discussion forum at http://ifonline.proboards4.com

There is also a large section with gaming discussion and more.

Support Our Advertisers

We can't run a service like this without your support. Please spare time to visit/user some of our advertisers while you download these classic games. The more support we get, the more we can expand this service bringing you even more classic games.

Bandwidth Crisis: Donations Urgently Required

Running a downloads site like this is not cheap and we desperately need your help. If you visit the site and do download some of the titles on offer, please seriously consider making a donation to the site. Even if you can only afford to donate 1, if most of our visitors would do this, it would cover our bandwidth costs indefinitely, would allow us to expand our server capacity, and also would allow us to bring even more games and applications to you for downloading free of charge.

Please try to help - it will only take a few moments of your time and will help secure the availability of our service indefinitely. If you could spare more than 1 that would be wonderful, but every small amount helps.

Games Requests

We have had a number of people make requests for titles that they would like to see us make available for downloading and we'd love to hear your views. To request titles, just go to our website, sign up for our forum and add your suggestion in our Computing/Gaming section. We are trying to source titles on a range of formats, so please feel free to ask for anything and we'll see what we can do. Please try to let us know what the title, format, and publisher is - the more information we have, the easier it is for us to track down and try to get clearance.

If there are any publishers reading this who could help, we'd love to hear from you.

URGENT: Advertisers / Sponsors Wanted

We are also still looking for more companies to get involved in advertising on the site either on a page by page basis, or for sponsoring entire sections of the site at very affordable rates with banner adverts starting at just 12 a month and sponsorship packages for entire sections of the site starting at 50 a month! Full details of the ad rates can be found online, or you can email or call us for more details.

Competition Prizes Wanted

We are also looking to offer more competitions through our site for gamers everywhere, especially to tie-in with our site's first anniversary which took place on 9th June 2003. If there are any companies interested in supporting us with future competitions providing prizes across a range of formats, please get in touch.
