What make/model is your drive.

Run Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and post the report

AFAIK Atapi is not a brand name - just a protocol. What does it say in device manager?

Better yet - I'll wait for diagnose

I'm sure EscondeR is on his way...

But in the meantime, even if you keep opening and closing the CD case, does it still not read anything? My CD drive is sometimes like that. It flashes a few times but then reads as nothing. You might just have to keep opening and closing it til it starts to read.

Of course, if after 30 times the problem persists then you might want to try something else out...you can always try the Google Search (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=cd+drive+not+reading&btnG=Google+Search&meta=). :)

1. Does it happen with some particular CD or any of them?

2. You have an outdate version of diagnose.exe, please run THE NEW ONE (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and post the report.

3. Have you tried cleaning the laser lens?

4. Set dribve letters as following: E: drive to D:, and unplug the F: drive. To change the drive letter go to Control Panel > Administrative tools > Computer Management > Disk management, right click your 52X CD-drive and select "Change drive letter".

What configuration of drives do you have? E.g. HDD and CD1 sitting on Primary channel and CD2 on secondary, or HDD-Primary, both CDs on Secondary?
Try the second variant, better leave one CD drive connected at a moment: HDD - Primary, CD (one that glitches) - Secondary. And try to read a CD.
If "no go" try to connect CD drive 2 instead of CD drive 1 and check.

Also go to Control panel > System > Hardware tab > Device manager > IDE/ATAPI controllers, choose Primary IDE and set DMA mode on to both devices. Then do the same with Secondary IDE.

And try to find any laser lens cleaner CD and use it on your glitching CD-drive

Does another CD-drive read all these disks?

Fish.

Your diagnose shows only 5 GB of space on your hard drive. Not sure, but maybe this might have something to do with it? (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Just to be safe, download CCleaner (http://ccleaner.com) and run it. ;)

Then you need to enable DMA mode I'm sure:
Go to Control panel > System > Hardware tab > Device manager, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers cathegory and right click IDE Primary Channel, select Properties > Additional properties and set both devices DMA mode to "DMA, if available". Press OK. The do the same with IDE Secondary Channel. Press OK. Reboot.

Why don't you scan and delete those virus?

Or even reformat if you don't have any valuable information there.
