Dude.

I'm stuck. I'm so stuck on this ONE part and it's annoying.

It's the Lost City level.

The Tall Lava Room with the shooting timed buttons and enemy egg sacks that burst out at you, there is one in particular I'm stuck on.

I've went onto some walk through levels and found this:

TALL LAVA ROOM (FOURTH FLOOR)

Notice the three eggs on the wall. Get a heavier weapon than the Pistols ready
because when Lara shoots the *BUTTON* on the right wall two gargoyles will
attack. Don't fight them with the pistols alone - there is no reason to horde
ammo - and make sure to stay moving so Lara doesn't fall off the platform by
getting hit.

Shoot the *BUTTON* again so that the markings light up then notice that three
*POLES* extend from the wall to the right - two are right beside the platform
that Lara is on and the other is further ahead on the right wall. A *RING*
also extends from the far right wall and another *RING* extends from the wall
directly ahead.

Start off by jumping to *RAMP* on the pillar to the right then jump to the
lower *POLE* next to the platform that Lara is on and swing then jump
immediately to the next *POLE* on the first swing then turn to face the
opposite direction very quickly while on the pole. Swing one time then jump
and grab onto the *CREVICE* on the pillar against the wall. Quickly shimmy to
the left on the crevice then jump to grab the *POLE* across from Lara. Swing
one time on the pole then jump and grapple to the overhead *RING* on the
ceiling. Wall run to the opposite end then press to the left along with the
jump button right before Lara turns around and grapple the next *RING* on the
wall to the left. Wall run to the pillar ahead and jump to grab the lower
*CREVICE* on the pillar then jump to the next *CREVICE* and shimmy to the left.
Hop over to the next platform from the top crevice.

-- Checkpoint

Okay, I've been doing that, but every time she jumps out from the second grappling hook, she doesn't grab the next crevice, she just falls, to her death. Every time!

Am I doing something wrong here? Is there something else I need to do or grab onto? Is there a code to give Lara a jet pack to bypass all of this?

Any help would be super cool!

Thanks!

Nick

Maybe you don't have enough momentum to leap. Give it another swing before doing so if you have time.

Or time may be up and the grapple let go before you reached the peak of the wall run to jump. :( Try skipping the first ramp and two poles before the first grapple. Instead, reset the timer after dispatching the two flying terrors and then run for the corner of the platform nearest the first grapple, jump and then shoot out your grapple. If you make it (no guarantee you will every time) climb up about 4 steps before performing the first wall run, jump for the corner, slide and jump, grapple second ring and wall run TWICE to get enough momentum to reach ledge. Then finish off the section by going up to next ledge, shimmy around corner, jump to large platform.

It's also a good idea to practice quickly changing direction on horizontal poles. When Lara is vertical above the pole, immediately press up or down and she should switch hands and face the other way.

Having her stop swinging and shuffle around to face the other direction wastes precious time.

I had problems with this as well, you really have to get that swing going pretty high to make it, and, of course, before the ring recedes back into he wall, which will drop you down prematurely.

Thanks, I'll keep trying. I appreciate the advice!

Is it me or did she move better in Legend?

Just seems she doesn't want to grab onto like, anything.

If I pass this part, I'm buying you all a round!

This is the now infamous 3rd platform of the Great Pyramid.

Legend movement seemed a bit smoother, but this could be due to the environment. On most of those grapple swings, the jumps at the end of the swings are "scripted", just like most jumps that interact with the environment, all "scripted". You need to be within a certain proximity of the target, and game just causes Lara to make the jump. One exception seems to be the intial jump to the column, which is a problem on a fast PC.

On a fast PC, there's a bug in the game that affects the initial jump as well as the jumps off the grapple. I made a video showing the issue with the initial jump. Using fraps on my system slows it down enough that the issue goes away. As mentioned in the video, I captured to a second computer so there was no overhead while making the video, except I turned on fraps for the second half of the video to show how it fixed the issue on my system:

Here is a video made using fraps showing a sucessful run. The pole sequence is done properly, with Lara doing her 1/2 twist (just press forwards while she's still swinging at the camera on the 2nd pole and she'll automatically do the 1/2 twist and reverse swing). This leaves enough time to do careful control inputs for the final pole swing and two grapples.

well the most common solution to this is to switch camera angle... because it happened to me to and putting the camera on lara's back solved this to me :D

I've just arrived to the infamous 3rd platform myself and I'm having problems with it too. Time runs out and I fall in to the lava. I've tried loads of times but gave up cos I was getting v.annoyed :hea:

But after reading all your comments I'm gonna try again

Wish me luck!!

Thanks!!

I've done it now, phew. It seems to get even harder though. Just got to a weird bit where lara faces someone who copy's her every move.....
