K, I'll see if they have it when I go get re3. This game looks scary, how is the movie I haven't seen it is it like the games? I was watching some gameplay videos of these games and one thing I like more than re is that the enemies are different. They don't all look the same and they look very weird.

After the boss fight (I think the boss fight is different for the Bad Ending?), Harry falls to the ground and grieves over Cheryl. Credits. Then you see a shot of Harry knocked unconscious in his Jeep, implying the whole experience was a dream.

TERRIBLE ENDING IS TERRIBLE.

Just to let you know first Silent Hill movieīs story was made to establish Silent Hill. In the end of the movie Silent Hill became The Silent Hill we know from the games (The main story was a bit different but the point is still the same and Alessa is gone) and it was stated there will be NO direct continuation of the first movies story. The sequel will be "stand alone". So they can make a game based on the second one with charcters from the games but that would be horrible because majority of the people would know the twist from the game already.

Not true Christophe Gans said he will be watching very closely n the production of the second movie and he said that the second movie will tie up loose ends of the first movie....;)

Actually no. Iīve read/seen every interview and making of document and he clearly states (EVEN ON HIS BLOG HERE: http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/silenthill/productiondiary/index.php) that the second movie will not continue the story of the first one if HE will be envolved.

Please do so then, in the french interview that was translated by some kind soul he said he will keep an eye on art direction of the second movie and that it will be a brand new story.

I hope the second movie will not continue the story of the first one, all questions have been answered and the story is complete thereīs no reason to continue.

"It is confirmed by director Christophe Gans that a sequel to the film Silent Hill is "officially ordered and well on the way." He went on to state that Samuel Hadida and Sony Pictures' subsidiary TriStar Pictures and DreamWorks SKG are attached as producer and distributor respectively. He also confirms that screenwriter Roger Avary will return to write the film's screenplay with Warner Independent Pictures and Universal Pictures. Gans has also stated that the movie might tie up loose ends from the first film.

As of April 2007, Producer Don Carmody has stated that a screenplay is slowly being developed and that "[Gans is] involved pretty heavily in another project right now" and will likely not return as director. Gans has stated that he will stay close to the film's production regardless of his status as director. The film's story is unknown as well, but it is confirmed that the film will retain the visual look of the first film.

In July 2007, Avary said that he would not be returning to collaborate on Silent Hill 2 on the account that Gans would not be returning, either. The sequel will continue in development without Avary or Gans."

Well alot of people who didn't play the game are confused...lol
And i saw another one that is new but i am trying to remember where i saw it...
I swear, whenever i need to find something my mind has a brain fart...
Other times i'm fine...
LOL back on topic: i wouldn't mind a continuation...
I mean they could make it where the dad from the movie goes to find rose and make it similar to the second games plot...(with subtle changes of course)
and if they make a third movie (which i'm sure they will)
They can use the third games plot...(once again with subtle changes)
I would be fine with it...
I loved the first film...
It is the closest video game adaption...
It probobly is my fav...

Yeah, I clocked in at 7-and-something. I read that in order to get better endings, you have to do more exploration. Is this true?

I'm replaying it right now.. I'm up to the boat part where you meet Cybil and Dahlia. I think now it's at 7:25, so I'm hoping the extra effort will get, you know, a normal ending this time around.

Yeah you need to make sure certain characters are kept alive for certain endings....

Bad: Don't save Cybil or Dr. Kaufmann
Bad+:Save Cybil But not Dr. Kaufmann
Good: Save Dr. Kaufmann not Cybil
Good+: Save Cybil & Dr. Kaufmann

;)

Bingo.

I didn't know that when I was playing... I just assumed they were supposed to die. I guess I'll read an FAQ during my second time around.

So, does saving their lives affect the amount of info you get on Alessa/the town/etc? I got the bad ending, and it seems like they only skimmed the surface of the story behind Alessa.

I never played SH1, is it good?

SH5 looks great, I can't wait to play it. When I first seen a few early screens shots I wasn't impressed but when I seen the latest ones and the in-game footage I was very excited. It's looks great, I love the paint striping effect when the real world changing to the hellish one also that wheelchair being pushed down the stairs by someone or something. Also I like the fact that there are no blackout when passing through rooms. And most of all the nurses. :p

1) What happened to Cybil for the good+ ending? Harry saved her using the red liquid (donīt remember the name) and she survived.

2) She replaced his wife because itīs what happened. 7 Years ago Harry and his wife found Cheryl on the road side, in the Good+ ending Alessa is reborn and given by herself (weird I know :D) to Harry and Cybil thus changing the intro sequence.

1. I'm not scared of Pyramid Head lol. He's just a monster rapist to me after what I've seen him doing to the legs monster.Or maybe because I played SH2 the last in the series so I wasn't actually that scared anymore. Who knows..

2. Yeah, that scared me the most in SH3. The body that was hanged at the dining room! :yik:  and there's thunderstrike.**** I was alone that time!

3. Is it the room where everything blotches black ink and you can't go out the door because it was suddenly locked? I watched Heather die slowly and whithered away that kind of creeped me too.

After a while, the door actually unlocked and you could walk out unharmed (or with little damage).. pretty freaky stuff, though.

So, Origins is getting a bit of wallopin' from ZP (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2791-Zero-Punctuation-Silent-Hill-Origins) this week... Never played this particular one, but gotta love personally how the author defined the essence of this game. Not some tacky Samael culty demony thing, but the town itself, without personification. Plus, Silent Hill 2 indeed rulz.

I can say it was the scariest for me, that the enemies were extremely nasty and I liked their design a lot. Though theyīre so fierce that escaping from them was almost impossible for me. I used to kill all of the enemies with an axe or a club (much better than the pistol).

The plot might not be the best, but itīs quite interesting. Play it and tell us what you think :tmb:

I can say it was the scariest for me, that the enemies were extremely nasty and I liked their design a lot. Though theyīre so fierce that escaping from them was almost impossible for me. I used to kill all of the enemies with an axe or a club (much better than the pistol).

The plot might not be the best, but itīs quite interesting. Play it and tell us what you think :tmb:

Which console did you get it for?

PS2.

Which previous SH is it most similar to, if at all? I really enjoyed SH2, but it looks like the style is more along the lines of SH3.

But yeah, I'm off to play it. I'll let ya know what I think after the first hour or so. :D

Do any of you like SH2 more than SH3? I love both but the third wasn’t dark and creepy enough imo. James was mostly quiet, the story is awesome, and the environments are dull/depressing whereas SH3 has a lot of orange and red in it. Even if SH2 is old I’ll always love it so much.

I agree. This whole red/yellow environment really can't live up to SH2's atmosphere in my opinion. I feel like I'm walking around in a McDonalds-gone-wrong or something. The SH2 atmosphere creeped me out because it was eerie and dark; SH3 relied more on shock images and gore for its means of terror. Which is fine and everything, but I respect SH2's method and atmosphere more.

And wow, I just found out it was released in 2001. The in-game graphics are stunning for that early of a game.

But SH3 and SH2 are two completely different kind of games. You can't really compare them seeing as both "otherworlds" are created by two completely different people/things.
Alessa's vision on the otherworld in SH3 is very red and orange, wich may imply the fact that she was burned, while James has seen completely different kind of things to create his otherworld.

I've heard that many times before, but I think they're very comparable. (I find that comparing apples and oranges is pretty reasonable; I like oranges more than apples, having tried both). Yeah, they're completely different otherworlds--one being Alessa's nightmare, the other James'--both with two independent stories. But as far as visuals, gameplay, and atmosphere, I enjoy the eerieness type of terror that the Silent Hill team innovated for SH2 rather than the traditional red-and-yellow theme they designed for SH1 and 3.

Yes, but now you are comparing it into a very different way. They designed it this way, to go with the story behind it. Simple enough :)

SH2 actually doesnīt have Otherworld until the very end in the hotel. Other times itīs just dark because itīs NIGHT. Example: Before you run into hospital where you first encounter the otherworld (after leaving Rosewater Park) you can see that the sun is setting. Everything has warm orange colour. When Maria "dies" and you exit hospital itīs dark outside. Itīs not otherworld, just night.

True, but I get the feeling that everything he encounters "normally" is the otherworld. I mean, you enter the hotel, but nothing is wrong with it. Then you enter a burned hotel, and guess what? The Hotel burned down some years ago.
But yeah I agree, James doesn't have much of an Otherworld, though my opinion is that everything he encounters in the first place is already "the otherworld". Mostly because he is imagining almost everything! From the letter to the death of his wife. I think the only "real" things James encounters, are Laura, Angela and Eddie. Angela and Eddie are going through something that is comparable to James' situation.

I really enjoy the Silent Hill games and have got all of them. I'm currently playing through Origins, although I can't play for too long - I get scared because, as suggested, I play in the dark with the headphones on.

The series highlight, as with most people, is Silent Hill 2. It's just such an intelligent storyline that drags you in. But each episode brings something new and unique to the series and the genre.

Probably the lowlight would be The Room. I don't like having to revisit areas I've cleared already, and I just didn't get the ghosts in his room so ended up dying quite a lot in the later stages of the game.

The movie, although largely, um, crap, did have some good in it. The atmosphere was spot on, I like the homage to the games, and it had Pyramid Head in it.

I am looking forward to Silent Hill 5, although the news that it could be more action orientated is slightly worrying - the best part of the Silent Hill series is the largely puzzle-based gameplay.

So you think it was all in his head rather than the town actually manifesting creatures and dimensions?

Noodleboy

So you think it was all in his head rather than the town actually manifesting creatures and dimensions?

Yes I do. I DO think the he was drawn towards SH by the town itself (but mostly out of guilt and his memories there with his wife before she got sick), but I think that James was delusional most of the time. I think most of the monsters, locations and other manifeststations were in his head.

I mean, Laura couldn't see the monsters James saw, Angela's manifestation was a world of fire, in wich James' manifestation was grey and depressing with all femal monsters (except for PH) reminding him of what he did to Mary. All three sinners have their own version of Silent Hill in their mind.

They were drawn towards the town because of important memories of Silent Hill, though I can't prove this 100% because I'm not sure if Eddie had any previous relationship to SH.

James had a memory to SH because he went there with his wife, and Angela's mother had lived in blue creek (If I remember right) so she recalls herself.
I'm just not certain of this because I can't prove or remember Eddies relationship to the town.

Yes, in SH1&3. Alessa has no business regarding James or even Henry, and if I recall it right, there were already strange things happening in Silent Hill long before Alessa was even born.

Eddie is actually a killer too. He killed a dog and shot a guy in his knee. Though we don't know if he killed more people. But I actually think he did. I think all the bodies scattered around Toluca Prison are part of Eddie's personal hell. It said that all bodies where covered in bullet holes.

Silent Hill Origins Coming to PS2
by Ryan Geddes

January 22, 2008 - Silent Hill Origins, a series prequel and the first handheld title in Konami's survival horror franchise, will soon irrevocably shred the space/time continuum when it is ported from the PlayStation Portable to the PlayStation 2.

Origins was released for the PSP in November and takes players back to Silent Hill to learn what made one of gaming's creepiest burgs so bizarre to begin with. Today, Konami confirmed that a PS2 version of said prequel is in development.

"Console gamers can now expect the same chilling, suspenseful and fear-filled experience that handheld gamers encountered when we released Silent Hill Origins on the PSP system," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "This is their chance to learn more of the mystery and mythos surrounding Silent Hill that's been hinted at in earlier games and made the series such a success."

Players take on the role of Travis Grady, a lone truck driver making a routine delivery when he makes an unfortunate detour to Silent Hill. You'll help Travis escape the city's blood-splattered inhabitants and unravel the mystery of the strange hallucinations from Travis' past, visions that have plagued him since childhood. -IGN

Thanks for posting that link; definately an interesting article.

A few things are bothering me about the new game though; the first is the mention of a "plucky" female character, akin to Heather from SH3. With all the horror around, I hope they don't make her too "plucky". There's also mention of increased comabt. Noooooo! One of the things I like about the SH series is the lack of combat. I just hope they don't take it too far and destroy the feeling of isolation and vulnerability with random enemies that need to be taken down with "grapples", "counter moves" and "evasive-roll maneuver".

I'm loving the mention that the transition from real to otherworld will be like in the movie; cool effect and with it happening in real time too! The new enemies sound interesting - espcially Siam. Ooh, and moral decisions could be a great new addition.

I like the sound of a player-controlled camera, but I do have some concerns that many of the unsual camera angles from previous games will be lost... one of my favourites is the up and round alley shot in the first game.

Overall my excitement is mixed with a little trepidation. Saying that, the overhaul of Resident Evil worked well.

I'm worried about that, too. The camera work in the SH1 alley was amazing.. definitely my favorite camera angle/movement from the series.

I'd like to assume they know what they're doing. I'm sure they're aware of the vulnerability/isolation issue, as well as the camera-style issue. Hopefully they've balanced it out, but, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

In Gamespot SHO scored a 6.5 (I think it was the lowest score)

Poor SH4, I liked it :p I like its gruesome deaths...seeing a character dying is something quite pleasant in survival horror games. And Room of Angel is quite a masterpiece.

In Gamespot SHO scored a 6.5 (I think it was the lowest score)
They say itīs just more of the same, that it contains all those great things of the SH formula but forgets to introduce something new (who cares about that? XD As long as it has the best of SH...)

I only liked cynthia's death because the blood looked very real :p after that (well the revisiting parts) it became boring.

Nope, worst one is SH:Orphan for the mobile phones :p dodgy controls when shooting, and a dumb point and click system.
SH play Novel is slightly better because it contains background info on SH1 (in japanese :p)

^It was kinda hard for me to finish off Willard before Eileen gets into the blood pool. I only saved her once and get the good ending. Now when I played she drowns everytime and I got the bad ending :( *radio tells the news of a murdered woman,etc...* Maybe I just loose my touch.
Thank God for youtube :p

And yes, I used the Holy-Candle cheat to heal Eileen but it doesn't seem to work anymore other than my first try. Even if it works, she was only healed partially (still have few bruises and cuts on her body) and that's the reason she advances very fast towards the blood pool during the final battle.

Survival

Shark Blade@ itīs not a cheat, itīs a proper way to heal her :)

And the more damage she takes during the course of the game the quicker she walks in the end. It doesnīt matter how much you heal her.

And for SH4... I love the game. I love the urban setting, I love revisiting the old worlds with new areas open, I love the deaths of the victims who then come back to h(a)unt you. I love the music, I love the overall feeling of the game, I love the atmosphere and I love Henryīs "character".

Sure the game isnīt perfect and it has itīs share of really annoying things but the good overweight the bad for me.

Silent Hill 4 in my opinion is the worst game in an outstanding series. That's not to say it's a bad game (and much better than most other survival horror games), it just didn't reach the unachievable high standards set by those prior. The concept was good, but the returning to previously visited areas really did seem a little lazy, Eileen was just annoying and for me it had just a touch too much combat.

I have Silent Hill Origins but haven't played it very much. I took on board the games suggestion about playing it in the dark and with headphones on, but I got too scared. There's a quirk that happens occassionally when the camera gets stuck and you can see inside Travis's head. I literally dropped the PSP. I do keep chipping away at it, and will almost certainly get it for PS2.

While I'm on, does anyone have the Silent Hill Experience UMD? Is it worth getting? It's on special offer for Ģ9.99 over at play.com.

It looks very good graphic-wise, but I get the feeling that the team that's making it, is holding tightly to the motion picture, instead of the other games. I mean, the otherworld transformation was exactly like in the film, only was the creature in the last stall replaced by a nurse, which btw look exactly like the SH2, thus movie nurses.

That's the first moment where I was legitimately startled in SH4. I don't scare easily, so it's good to know they threw something in there that takes people totally off-guard.

Haha. You know, I've actually seen that before. But it was a while ago, so I had forgotten about it by the time I came across that room. That sucks that it was spoiled for you, though.

^ I've seen them! Still not trusting the graphics :s

Well it's still in development so lets hope they improve that. Plus you can't really judge a game by screenshots. I'm sure in-game footage it will look much better (new footage that is of the latest build).

*crosses fingers*

Silent Hill was/is/will always remain my all time most amazingly perfect peace of art to look at/play; I remember the first time I've seen the 2nd Silent Hill trailer back in 2001... (wipes a tear)... Also, in 2003, seeing the 1st SH 3 footage, I'was like, WOW!

And now that we're in the "next gen" gaming generation, you can imagine how big are my expectations about SH5...
That's why, I'm a bit disappointed/sad/worried Silent Team isn't on it... :(

I don't like it either that the original Team Silent aren't developing SH5, they didn't do Origins either but at least Akira still makes sure the sound of the game stays right. We'll just have to see how it turns out.

i dont have a psp so i cant play origins, does anyone have it and if so whats it like?? i hear lisa and alessa are in it

my best memory of the original silent hill is of of lisa, me and my mum used to play it together when it first came out * i was about 13 - 14 i think*
and when we saw lisa *change* we were both just horrified* in a good way*
that is one of the biggest impacts a game has ever had on me and i allways remember it, i loved lisa she was such an innocent in the drama, kept to the town because of her drug addiction and looking after the burnt alessa in the basement
i wonder if origins explains how she was killed?? im guessing by hoffman??

yea i do!! thats wicked, im looking forward to SH5 altho im worried thats its being done by an american company as opposed to team silent, *they wernt american right*
altho the trailers are looking pretty good, the controls are still a bit tank like tho, it looks like you can still face a wall and keep on running which is a bit weird, altho it says on wiki (the page of truthfull knowledge :p) that if u walk into a table it will move and the things will fall over which sounds good!

Nenya awakens: Silent Hill Origins and Silent Hill 5 are both done by the americans, not the original Team Silent.

I think they're just for preorder there. Konami would have made some sort of announcement that the games are coming out earlier. Why haven't they.

Anyway they've just announced that they'll push Silent Hill 5 out during Q4 (Christmas season) this year. They weren't sure before could they publish the games this year but now they're aiming for it.

Hopefully a pc version will come soon after the console versions.

no, if it was for perorder then it wouldnt say usually ships within 24 hours, because if it was, then it would say pre-release then the date whenever its coming out.

EDIT:

not to mention the official konami site saying march 4, 2008 :wve:

Ok I found Konamis announcement from March 4th, you were right. So you Americans got it first. Konami didn't give any info on European release date so I guess we still have to wait the 2 months. Oh well. We Europeans always get slapped in the face. It's not fair.

True but we usually get better versions of the games :)

I'm looking forward to the PS2 port of Origins. The PSP version is already one of the best handheld games I've played.

Here's my cover of Laura Plays the Piano! The piano is waaaay out of tune, though, so I'm going to try to record it on a nicer piano at school in the next few days. Lemme know what you guys think, though. Suggestions would be cool.
