after I jumped down the trap door that I opened with the key, I crawled under the skeleton. I climbed up to the ledge with the torch on it. I am trying to jump to the ledge at the other side of the water but I keep coming up short. How do I do it, can you please help.

Jump straight up, catch the ceiling & monkey-swing across the lake. But before you do this, it's a good idea to shoot the crocs & go foraging for goodies on the lake bottom, and all over the lake bottom too (the place to climb out is the ledge where the passage from the hut emerges into the canyon). There's a second monkey-swing section further on. (A good general tip for TR3 is that any time you find yourself at at an apparent dead end, look up - there may be a monkey-swingable ceiling around.)
