Thick clouds of yellow dust blow over the Balochistan province of western Pakistan and the southern portions of Nimruz, Helmand, and Kandahar provinces in southern Afghanistan. Some of the dust seems to originate in eastern Iran (in the image's top left corner), then blow southeast to obscure the Chagai Hills and Raskok Mountains. The dust does not quite make it to the Arabian Sea, which is visible at image bottom. At the bottom right corner of the image, the city of Karachi is visible as a dark gray spot on the coast, right at the western edge of the Mouths of the Indus (Pakistanís major river system). This true-color Aqua MODIS image was acquired on June 7, 2003.
