Hello all,
I thought it was a good idea to start an open chat thread here to talk about games and games related stuff.
You can use this thread to just talk about general stuff that aren't worth starting a new thread over.
You can also use this thread to ask questions about games, tell us what you're playing at the moment, what new game you bougt, to ask opinions before buying a game and to share experiences.
So, let's have some open game chat fun.
I've bought Resident Evil 4 Wii edition today. I've already completed the PS2 version. But my brother hadn't played that one, so he wanted it for the Wii as well and so did I. I could really use some impressions from you guys on how it plays, since I have to wait 2 days before I'm able to play due to work related stuff. I'd like to know if it plays well and if it's more difficult than the PS2 version (for people who've played both).
Also, I've finished the Forest temple today with Zelda: TP and I'm completely thrilled. I'm loving this game so far and I have a feeling it's just really getting started since I'm finally able to enter Hyrule Field :D.

But I still think it'll be a usefull thread, it saves us a lot of "I bought ... today", "I finished ... today", ".. Rules", "Who has played ..." "I'm playing ... right now" kind of threads.
I know I've had quite some times that I thought of saying something, but it just didn't fit anywhere and it wasn't big enough to start a new thread. Now we can just discuss the things that aren't worth making a thread over. Just talk about what game you're playing now, or what game you're thinking about of buying and other people can reply and tell their experience with their game.
So in simple.. an open game chat ;). It's useful like open chat and mature open chat :)

Anyone here has played Fallout 2? I've been wondering for a while if instead of reselling the Wanamingo mine to the mayor of Redding I could keep it for myself and make some use of it. Apparently I'm the only owner of a mine in the town with working equipment so why not?

It's definately worth the buy, but i hear the next gen versions are the best. Also, the story for Conviction is set up in the ending. :D

well since i'm not far in the game, it just didn't changed much!
but the story is so cool... in the beggining he just feels like he had so much work to get two mob guys and they would shoot them! but then they give him an envelope full of money XD

I'm still not convinced, I'm waiting for gameplay video's of SCIV to see if it's worth buying. I've never played a SC game, so I have no experience with the series to convince me to buy IV.

I've always found SC better then Tekken.
Quite the contrary, the fact that Namco would include a character like Bob in Tekken 6 means they aren't going to stand in place with design. Variety ftw! Now we need a genuine drunken master.

The Orange Box is simply the best game package of the year. It's got to be the best bargain of the year aswell since it's the price of a standard game and actually contains five, three of them brand new and the other two free. You're probably thinking "they must be crap, then". If so, take a look at this:

True, I have thought of that before starting this thread, but there are still things that are just too small to make a thread over (see some of the things I mentioned in my first post) and this seemed like a perfect place that could save us a lot of threads with 1 or 2 replies.
Anyway, does anyone, by chance, know how long the batteries last in the Wii-mote?

yeah the newest Teken i played was teken4 or perhaps teken5...

I looked into that masterpiece of a fighting game character design Bob guy a bit more and I've come over an idea that he might be actually a mimic. No frickin' way, if he does AOP he'll be basically sitting on his crotch. Should he go into Christie's headstand there's no engine on the world that could imitate the physics of his bosom. Still, looking at this (http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/7caa502b28.jpg) a bit closer reveals several quite disturbing move similarities (the low kick he does on Lee looks like a bit altered version of Christie's RSS 1+4 move, then he punches Feng with some Steve stuff I can't remember, plus he's got Jin's stance).
Surely it would be a shame to waste such an obvious spark of genius in the darkness of repetitive game design on a mere mimic. He virtually begs for his own backyard-born wrench-based style and a tap-dancing victory stance. In his ending he'll eat Mishimas for breakfast.

Speaking of packages, I've recently run into the PS2 trilogy of PoP costing around some 20 euro. I once tried playing PoP1 and didn't get into it, however the price's so low I'm thinking if it's worth another try. Is it?

Hmmm... will this game be any different to the past ones ? Just a graphic upgrade isn't just the way forward. And just because of new characters doesn't make it feel any more new.

Absolutely!! I bought the first game, when I had finished it, I immediately ran to the store to buy the second and after that the third. PoP is great, love those games.

Wow, those new screens kick ass. Those are the first HQ screens I've seen so far of Tekken 6. They look great. And I'm so glad Lili is back, she has some wicked moves :D.
Another thing, I'm already through 2 sets of batteries with my Wii-mote. I'm sorry but what were they thinking by using batteries? I have to be honest and say that Sony were a lot smarter with their USB-cable-loading thing. The only downside of that cable is that it's a little short :p, but other than that it's MUCH better than batteries.

At this point in the game, you have plenty of power-ups to choose from.

Anyone who wondered why Lair got such low scores? These guys from the American website Gamers-creed think they know:
"We are wondering how reviewers gave the game such low scores when all they had to do was relax and simply and gently move the controller in the appropriate direction. We under the impression that, reviewers who reviewed this game were either in a rush to get the review out on time or just did not take their time in playing the game."
And this is a video from a player explaining the controls. It makes sense when you think about it, so maybe this is why it got 'low' scores.

Checking prices on the Wii, I stopped into the local Gamestop where Bioshock was the featured game, guy behind the counter told me not even to bother getting it for PC unless I had a gaming computer. He said I should get a 360. I'm getting a new desktop shortly, but wasn't planning a huge outlay. Is he right?
This post will have several topics, so I'll number them.

I have no idea to be honest, maybe you could google the system requirements to see if you really have to have all that power in your pc. And even if you do, you have to consider the fact that you need a pc (I imagine you're not using it for gaming only, if else you could buy a 360) for other important things.
But if you can afford it and want don't mind buying (and really need to buy) a console instead of a PC, I say go for it.

Something else, I FINISHED PLAYING THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS!!!!!! :D.

What an awesome game, I'm still in a discussion with myself whether I like OoT or TP better. But at the moment I'm leaning more towards TP because it doesn't have the typical 'save 7 dungeons and defeat ganon' type of gameplay. I was shocked to find out that the mirror was broken and I had to find all the pieces, just when I thought I was almost finished. The new weapons are awesome and I love how they respect the classic Zelda's, like when you're in Hyrule castle, the music that is a remix of Hyrule Castle from A Link to the Past and from Hyrule Castle from Ocarina of Time.

In an interview by the popular Japanese gamemagazine Famitsu with executive producer Yoshinori Kitase, producer Hideki Imaizumi, director Hajime Tabata and character designer Tetsuya Nomura, Imaizumi said that it was only a matter of timing when the FVII will be made. Kitase, Nomura and Tabata are all very busy at the moment with FFXIII, so FVII will have to wait.
Later in the interview Imaizumi emphasized that momentarily there are no plans for a FFVII remake, but these plans could very rapidly change.
Unfortunately the source is in Dutch, so posting a link won't do much for you guys. Hopefully those people from Square-Enix weren't just full of ****, cause I've never played FFVII and I really would love to play it with amazing graphics, cause that would do the game and story more justice than if I played it on PS1 now. I probably wouldn't enjoy it on the PS1 cause it's so outdated.

Slightly off topic but apropos to LegenDary's post:
I'm sad that there's a backlash against blondes. Recently read that blondes are becoming genetically (naturally extinct) meaning there will be no more natural blondes in 100 years unless they find a way to genetically engineer them. My husband and I are both natural blondes.
Back to topic:
I read on Google that the min requirements for Bioshock on PC do not always guarantee it will work, depends on Video card/mem.. so I have to look into it more before I make any decisions.
Third, the free game downloads posted by Forwen, that was a US labor day promotion and it's over, so if you didn't get your downloads already, you won't be able to get them, apparently. However, it was totally on the level, legal, they were ad-supported.
I had a few rounds on Super Gem Fighter : Mini Mix last night; or as I like to call it, Street Fighter Babies. :)

Get the battery charger, that comes with 2 rechargable battery packs (I think). I'm going to get it for the Wii... I have one for the 360 and it saves so much money that it's indispensable. ;)

I hope they don't remake FFVII. It's to overrated and it would be a cheap way for SE to kiss the fans' behinds and make money off them. If there ever should be a Final Fantasy remake, it should be VIII (8). Best story line, but could use and improved gameplay/battle system. 7 storyline is nothing special (thus overrated) and nowhere near as good as 8's, and went even more downhill with Advent Children.

Yes FF9 is way underrated. If you're into RPGs, then you should check out 8. Heck, I'd love them both to be remade if it's possible, but as I said, 8 is my number 1 priority.
I can comment on the FFVIII remake, since I have played that one. And a remake of that game would be AWESOME. It was one hell of an experience. Definitely worthy of a remake.
I saw it in a store this week, secondhand for €30,- and I immediately bought it along with the Wii and Zelda. It has been years since I played it (I borrowed it from someone) so I'm gonna play it when I have time.
I bought my new desktop computer today, and should be fine for at least one version of Bioshock :cln: So now to get hold of the game! :)

I am planning on buying Last Revelation soon, I have all the TR game except TRLR and Chronicles so I am really looking forward to finishing the TR series so far. I just got AOD on the 26th from my sister for my birthday, I love it!
PC or Console may I ask? I haven't been able to get any of my TR PC versions to play on any of my (now six) computers lately, even though they used to run on one of them, after I had to format the hard drive and reinstall, I'm having trouble. I had to replace the video card and the sound card and the monitor since they worked on that computer though.

At the moment I'm playing two games.
1. Ninja Gaiden Sigma - Brilliant game:tmb: Unfortunately I'm sooo stuck with a boss, the fat armoured guy outside the military base in Tairon. No matter what I do he always kills me at the last second :hea: I really feel like giving up (which I never do) but I love the game too much and want to see how the rest plays out.
2. Legacy of Kain: Defiance - Superb. I love both Kain and Raziels characters. It's such a pity I've not played the rest of the series (bar Soul Reaver). I'd love to try and follow the story game by game. I heard though that Blood Omen 2 can be viewed as non-canon so I'm not missing out there right? This is the first Crystal game excluding TR I've played on PS2 and it's weird to see the similarities between LoK:D and TRL in terms of design etc. I figure I'm only about half way through the game and I'm lovin' it so far.

Just started playing mgs3 Subsistence. Played through MGS3 previously and loved it, with the exception of the damn camera, which has now been fixed on subsistence so i can't recommended it enough!
Do feel a bit daft though as i recently bought a PS3 and so far this is the only game i've played on it!
Previously played through Bioshock, which is simply stunning in every way from graphics to gameplay to story. easily best next-gen game so far!
I 'ad a go on Virtua Tennis 3 on the 360 yesterday. It's probably the most realistic tennis sim I've ever played. Positioning your player has equal, if not more importance than shot selection. In most tennis sims you either make a perfect shot or lunge for it.

Than you'll have the same next gen consoles as me :). I hope you'll like the PS3 as much as I do. I personally like the PS3 better if you're playing alone, the Wii is more of a friends console. But even playing PS3 with friends is more fun, they're always stunned by how amazing everything looks.

Don't get me started, I've bought entire consoles and handhelds because of Zelda.
I bought a N64 to play Ocarina of Time, after that I bought a Gameboy Advance SP to play A Link to the Past (cause I was addicted to it when I had a Super Nintendo as a child), it was the only game I ever bought for the GBA. And finally I bought a Wii to play Twilight Princess.

I even have a custom firmware installed on my PSP so I can play A Link to the Past and TR1. For all the whiners: don't give me that 'that's illegal' crap, cause I think buying a game twice gives me the right to download it :D. And I ripped TR1 to my pc, that's completely legal since I own the game.
Anyone else who is in love with their PSP (not literally of course ;))? Once you have a custom firmware installed, the possibilities are endless.

I fully agree and I'm totally aware it's illegal. And trust me, if I had the possibility to buy it for the PS3, I would have done it without thinking twice, I've completed the game for about 50 times (no joking), but I would be happy to buy it again, that's how much I love it.
But since it's not possible, I downloaded it. And I know piracy is wrong, but seeing as I've bought the game two times already and there's no way to buy it for the PSP, I feel no guilt at all :).

I partially agree, even though you're not selling it. You're not buying it either. So if you own the particular 'object' your downloading and don't sell it to people, I honestly don't see the harm in downloading it.
But unfortunately it doesn't always go that way. It's far too easy and way cheaper to download games (and movies and music for that matter) these days. I still buy games because I like having the official box and instructions manual with the little background story at the beginning. Always had a thing for that ever since I read the 6 page background story of A Link to the Past for the SNES :). So that's why I always buy games and don't download them.

The reason I love this game so much is because I managed to complete it without any help at an extremely young age. No one in my family could beat the game except me :D.

Yes. I tried to look up the date, but it was announced quite some time ago. It will appear before the end of the year, that's for sure. The demo will be available on the PSN in a few weeks.
Has anyone read about Assassin's Creed not getting a demo? Ubisoft reacted to this by saying that there isn't a part in the game that would work as a demo, because it's such a big game.
I'm very suspicious about this, cause the gameplay video's haven't exactly blown me away, just like Uncharted. That's why I'm glad that game get's a demo, cause the gameplay trailers haven't really convinced me yet.
