I'm not really good with names, and I came up with six instead of five :p So, not really in any order, my top male singers would be:

Roy Orbison
Johnny Cash
The singer from Sonata Arctica (particularly singing Broken on the Winterheart's Guild album)
The singer from Blind Guardian (particularly singing Mordred's Song on their Live album)
Marty Robbins (I love the way he sounds singing Big Iron)
The singer from Maroon 5 (Harder to Breathe is amazing)

Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer)

...and I can't think of any more. I just realized 90% of the music I listen to is by female singers. Male singers have to be pretty outstanding to catch my ear.

Just FIVE???

So hard to narrow it down, but......

1. Smokey Robinson - Silky-smooth vocals

2. Freddie Mercury - one of a kind, no one can ever take his place, although would like to see Mika go out on tour with the surviving members of Queen, as he's the only one who could sing the songs like they should be sung

3. Tim Rice-Oxley (Keane) - Truly, a voice of an angel

4. Michael McDonald - Lovely, soulful voice

5. Cat Stevens - A very unique talent

Paul WellerHis voice definitely gets better with age. Although I loved him in the Jam, those tunes are nothing compared to his solo work within the past 10 years :)
