I'm afraid you won't be able to find a free version of anything that will do that :( . You may be able to, however, find a free trial of something. I know 3DS Max used to have a free trial, or you could try Rhino. They might be able to do what you want.

Yes it is!!! You can download a free version of Maya from Alias|Wavefront. (sorry, don't remember the url) It's called Maya Personal Learning Edition or something. It has a few limitations, but definatly worth a try! But be warned! That little program is hard without a guide! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/bash.gif

I think if you find a decent 3d magazine, they'll normally have a couple of programs on the cover disc.

Maya PLE is very large, and I think it comes with some training material (I think I might have a manual in PDF somewhere...)

Also Maya PLE is fully working - there's nothing stripped out of it - the only thing is that any renders that you output will be watermarked.

have a look on discreet.com for GMax - its a free version of 3d studio max designed for gamers.

A few other programs you might want to look out for.

Discreet 3d studio max
Autodesk Viz
Newtek LightWave
Avid SoftImage
TrueSpace
Corel Bryce
Rhinocerous

...also, you could try a free program called "Blender" made by a company called Not A Number. I cant remember the website, but the program also comes with a 3d game engine.

I fully recommend getting the Maya PLE if you're intrested in it. It's a water-marked version of Maya, with nothing taken away except for Sub-Division surfaces. I have 3DS Max, Lightwave, and Maya, and Maya is the one I fully recommend out of all of them for it's fluids, animation capabilities, NURBS surface usage, easy lighting, and a varity of renderers.

Although if you want to model Lara Croft or something, be cautious: I've been in CG for quite some time and I still haven't been able to model anything half-decent.. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Hey, Deano, do you have that model in your possession? I used to have it, but acciedentally deleted it, and haven't had it back yet.

Someone at Eidos has that full model (eyes and teeth textures) somewhere.. But I haven't been able to get in contact with them..
