Hiya, I think this may actually be my first post in this fine sub-forum...

anywho: Ive just spent an hour examining and testing my ps2 to find out what the hell was wrong with it, and Ive come to the conclusion that the lense isnt moving up and down the disc like it should, because normally when I open the disc holder (new ps2 type) it moves back to the rear of the ps2, but now it doesn't and I can actually move it myself, which I havent been able to do before?

Is there a way to fix this? Or should I send it in? Or just hurry up and get a ps3 already?

If it's not very old and that's the only issue I recommend service :)

Does it come up "Disk Read Error" because that was how mine started dying:(

No the ps2 doesnt even recognise that there's a disc in it?? Infuriating!

Its about 2 years old. Before that I had a chunky version, but it died. I'll ring EB later, they replaced my last one hopefully they will again.

ahh Ps2, i loved my Ps2, lasted an almighty 7 years :D

i'm hoping my ps3 will last roughly the same,

Anyway, i would say move on, get a Ps3 already, but have your Ps2 replaced aswell, just until you get your Ps3

There are tutorials online for how to try to fix the lens problems yourself. However, those are only if your warranty is expired and you were just going to throw the PS2 out anyway. Incidentally, do you have a big PS2 or the slim one with the PS1-style CD/DVD tray? (From the details you gave I assume it's the slim one like what I just got, but I never really noticed my lens moving around when I opened it. I've only had it for a month, though)

Mine died like that to!!

Same here, sort of. Someone lent me an original PS2 for a month. It was working perfectly one day, but then the next it refused to read anything (silver PS2, blue PS2, PS1, DVD, or CD). I felt so bad that it broke, although I don't know if I did anything that contributed to its death.

I don´t know what I would do without my PS2 :( She´s been with me for 4 years...I wouldn´t be able to replace her, not even with a PS3.

It's usually a Platinum PS2 game.

What Angelus said, but the reason I brought it up is that the blue discs are harder to read than silver, so sometimes the PS2 will read silver but not blue (I found that out while researching it after my friend's PS2 died on me).

It sometimes happens to me with Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex.

Does anyone know why this happens? It doesn't make sense to put a game on a disc which the PS2 finds hard to read.

If its just that disc spefically, the disc is probably damaged.

blue discs = CD
silver = DVD
Most older games are blues but it quickly shifted to silver because of the larger storage.

I say just get a PS3, unless u don't have a 360 in which case buy a 360, play the HUGE range of good games on that, then get a PS3

somthing like this happened to me, but it was just because the lens was dirty. Take it apart and clean it, thats what I did and it worked fine. Now its not the best but thats reasonable because its so old.

I think my cousin had a similar problem.
