You know how as you advance near the end of the game and beat it..... 1st time...... don't you get this feeling that whenever you replay it it's just plain boring??

However........

After finally getting to play the game again after months, it wasn't plain old boring, It was FUN! You just have to give it time if you ever get bored. After some time the fun will come back and you forget why you ever said I WASTED 30 BUCK-AROO-S ON THIS!?!?!!??!?!? and get the feeling like WOW! THE GAME GOT IT'S FLARE BACK!

I think i know that people have experienced the very 1st paragraph, but has anyne else experienced the 2nd paragraph feeling, or something no so cheeky?

PS Has anyone ever gotten Worms Open Warfare 2. if so, DS or PSP?

I don't think tra is a waste of money. Legend on the other hand...:whi:

Since this topic is about enjoying replays of TRA, I think I'll post this here--I just discovered something so obvious that I feel like a complete and total idiot for not realizing it before. I have the game set to advance toggle combat mode. I only just now found out that if I don't touch the damned mouse at all, the camera actually does do a good job of focusing in on the enemy I'm shooting at. I never knew that before because almost always an enemy would attack from off-screen, so my natural instinct would be to try to move the camera to face the enemy as I start shooting. However, that only causes a lot of grief because then the camera doesn't focus on the enemy automatically. So, I just learned today that if I don't move the camera at all during combat (even though it's so tempting to do so at the very beginning when I can't see the enemy) then the camera actually does work :D

Legend is worth the $20 I paid. I haven't finished it, probably never will, but just walking around Croft manor and fining out that you can look right down the front of Lara's shirt made it worth every penny. :D

I kind of know what you mean about Anniversary, but sometimes that kind of "boredom," as you call it is actually peaceful and relaxing.

TRA is a total disgrace. Months have passed since I beat it (bought on the release date), and I still feel bad about the game.

You know...now that I think about it...this thread proves just how bad Anniversary really is. I mean come on...try to find a way to like the game? That's nonsense. It shouldn't be that hard to like something.

I'll have to avoid replaying for 2 or 3 years at least for it to feel fresh again. My memory's too good to be honest. Of course, I've replayed levels for fun, but completing the game from scratch doesn't hold much appeal at the mo.

That's the thing i was trying to avoid!:hea:

I was trying to support it and say that proves how good anniversary really is, not bad!

I don't know why anyone bashes TRA for being boring the 2nd time through... now I haven't played it yet but I feel qualified to say that because I've never been overly excited to play ANY of the previous games over and over again. TR1 is my favorite game ever but replaying it never came close to the first time. The newness of it all cannot be reclaimed, unless you can totally forget everything about it!

on replaying values i have to say TRA and TRL aren't doing that great compared to old tr games although I love both TRA and TRL.
I still enjoys it every time I'm playing TR2. but after completing all time trials I really don't want to replay TRA again.

I know what ya mean about Crystal's TR replay value. After you've been through it once and done everything, what else is there to do?

With the Core games you could have a lot of fun figuring out how to get Lara to 'unreachable' platforms, and so on, but with Crystal there's all those invisible walls...

But can we really expect to get all we want out of a video game from the Tomb Raider series? Always good to diversify...

it's a trend with today's most gamers they just want some fansy stuff and a complicated system, they don't actually care too much about the level and design stuff that much. That's why CD made those changes such as AD and less complexity of the levels (I found on some other tr websites TRL and TRA are people's favorites). Which is fine and very enjoyable for me to some extends. But unfortuately very low on replay values. You really can't expect all from a videogame. I even want more from my favorite TR2(to have more conversations). I guess I'll just wait to see if they actually give me one perfect TR game in the future.

not "find a way to like it" more lik see it in a different light. instead of one full of expectations. u cant play any game full of expectations, it wont fufill them, ull only feel disappointment. if u just play it for what it is, ull see that u might like it. evry game is different.
if u still dont like it after u replay it, then u really dont.
if u do like it after u replay it, then good for u, u got ur money's worth.

as much as i dont like legend, for some reason i like to replay it...alot.

I definitely feel that way too. I very rarely replay a game within a year of winning it unless there is a really good reason to do so (usually that reason is for different story options in an RPG game). I'm replaying TRA at the moment because I found out about Angel_14's mod which makes the game much sharper and more colorful (my biggest complaint with TRA visually is that it is so bland and monochromatic, which Angel's wonderful mod fixes. I just got up to Egypt last night and it was so beautiful :jmp: I really wish CD had made the game like that originally). Anyhow, my point was that I'm replaying TRA right now to see how beautiful it is with that excellent mod, and there are several places where I just want to stop playing because it's so boring/frustrating/tedious/etc. These are mainly places that require a lot of precision (which the controls inherently don't offer) and in addition to that the camera has preset points where it moves and throws off my controls because the directions are redefined. I managed to get through these places the first time through because I had to see what was next, but now that I already know what's next, I have to really force myself to keep playing. These parts don't by any means make up the majority of the game, but they bother me a lot because they could have easily been eliminated by having the camera not assume awkward positions, and by having a save-anywhere system (so that I can save at each intermediate step if I want to, thereby eliminating the need to keep struggling with the weird camera angles once I manage to get past it one time).

As much as Legend is easier and shorter I replay it as well some times.

There is no different light in seeing a game IMO. Either you like the game, or you don't. You don't force yourself to replay it until you learn to love it.

As for the expectations, no game so far has met all of them, but as hard as it may be to believe there are games out there which I love.

TR1, too slow but still love it.
TR2, I'm still working on finding a flaw...
TR3, same as TR2
TR4, going back and forth to other levels was annoying sometimes, Lara's model was held back, menu and save system changed from good to bad, etc...
Legend was linear, too fast, hardly any puzzles, shoot 'em up, etc...but loved the new controls (with Anniversary, it was time to move to the level development, but not only did that gor horribly wrong, but controls were worse than Legend's, especially the combat and the dreadful AD)
FF8, greatest RPG ever, but gameplay is a bit lacking
FF9, great gameplay, but story is a bit lacking
RE4, changed RE formula, but none the less, it's still a good game
etc...
Anniversary didn't meet any of my expectations: I was expecting a remake of TR1 not a beta version of 1/4 of it, and certainly I was expecting Tomb Raider not Ledge Hopper and a competition with PoP on who hops from ledges and poles the most. I was expecting creativity and good level design, not a cheap game with poles and ledges everywhere that can't be reached via Lara's new bunny hops.

I find with most games I play... I will play again at some stage to finish it 100%

Even the games I find boring to start with. Sure the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc.times you play it gets less and less fun each time so I end up giving up.

Sometimes when you replay a game you can look for new things, like shortcuts and other things to entertain yourself. I find Legend and Anniversary fun to replay.... I always replay the levels and try to beat my 'best time trial time'

hehe.

I'm extremely obsessive. I compulsively must finish a game with 100% before I can go on to anything else. Because I'm like this I try to get everything I need the first time through. If I have to go back, it will only be for a couple of things I may have missed.
