I'm a Roman Catholic, but i dont really care either way. I believe that Religion was born from fear, and is a major cause of problems in the world today.

If theres one religion i'd really like to join, is the Jedi Order! (LOL ;) )

Baptised Catholic, but I feel most organized religion is flawed, due to being set up by humans (who are fallible, blah blah blah etc.). I have faith in the fact there is a God and he created the universe.

Actually, I believe in both evolution and the Bible's account of creation.

That's a heavy combination to believe in, because you have to take evidence from one side, information from another, and sift out the information that contradicts each other.

Pretty much. I figure that the story of creation and Adam and Eve in symbolic. I believe God at least had a hand in the creation of the world, especially if you look at the 'Watch theory'. I can't remember who came up with it, but it basically compares the workings of the world to the workings of a watch. If you found a watch lying in a field, you wouldn't believe that it just 'happened' there, it's been created and all the parts are there for a reason. In the same way the world's parts all fit and work together, so perhaps a higher being made them so?

Next week Voni explores the philosophy behind KFC: i.e., none.

I've had to extricate myself from every type of church I ever went to: Baptist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Jehovah's Witness, Judea Reform; (me and my big mouth) so I've come to consider myself in the "spirits of just men made perfect," category from Hebrews 12:23

Yes, despite me being not of the common religions, I will use Jesus, God, and any of the words of the apostles and priests as "good words" to follow, like those of Aesop's Fables. Therefore if I say that I am an atheist and that "Jesus died for your sins" in the same sentence, I'm usually being figurative.

I think God would be okay with that.

So like... how many Atheists here consider it to be a Religion in itself? As far as I understand it you're not all out to crucify Christians, Muslims etc...so do you believe in God in any form? Otherwise I don't see how a 'faith' cancelling out other faith is a Religion.

Atheism, by definition, is simply a lack of God-ness. Therefore, taking the modern meaning of theism to mean believe in God, atheism is a lack of belief in God.
Therefore it can't actually be a religion, because it isn't a spiritual or religious belief, more... the lack of it.

It comes from the Greek: θεός (theos) which literally means God. Adding the prefix of an alpha (α) simply means a lack of whatever the following word is.

Most atheists aren't out to crucify religious people, although you do get those crazy ones who are, much like you can get the odd crazy religious person/sect/group/cult which has the odd notion that anyone with slightly different beliefs must die.

So, to answer your question, No. It isn't a faith/religion. Those who think of it as such are severely misguided and don't understand the core principles of atheism.

Accually no they are different if you are Christian but not Catholic you belive in what Catholics belive in but you dont recives the sacrements, and Catholics are Christians who recieve the sacrements.

That's a heavy combination to believe in, because you have to take evidence from one side, information from another, and sift out the information that contradicts each other.

Accually it can makes sence i belive in it a little bit and I belive in the Genisis Creation story, I belive God made the first creatures and as the earth evolved God made the creatures evolove with it, but I dont belive humans came from the ape family or whatever i belive humans are a species that was created and has never evolved.

Something between an agnostic and an atheist, I guess - I believe it's possible that there's some sort of divine entity, but I think the alternative is much more likely. Same here. I don't completely rule out the possibility of some higher power initiating creation and evolution but I guess since there's no tangible proof...
And I have a hearty dislike for organised religions, as well.

According to the Bible; Adam and Eve were the first people that God created on the Earth, and they weren't apes.
The bible is not meant to be taken word for word, Saki. Genesis especially is supposed to be symbolic.

So even if we accept the existance of Adam and Eve as a fact, then yes, they probably were apes.

I used to be an Christian Orthodox until the age of about 12 I think, when I started thinking about it. And I was never particularly religious to begin with, nor are my parents as far as I know.

Thats Great ! It can be a bbit frustrating when you have quetions about your faith and adults juts tell you everything that was written directly ina book and not something that fills your answer or they have a set of guide lines you must follow or you are doing wrong.
