View Full Version : Would you like to be a mod?

Sorry if this thread is pointless (im just a little bored) but i was just wondering how many people out there actually want to be a mod. Lots of people have told me that they would hate to be a mod or an admin because its to much work

I would personally love to be a mod because i spen about 7 hours a day on here anyway lol. It wouldnt hurt to have a job to do around here while im hanging around for 7 hours:D

No, Moderators have a hell of a lot to work to do, and they put 100% effort into it, and I know I wouldn't be able to handle it, and I'm not responsible enough.

29-09-07, 14:00
Being a mod is all about responsiblity. I don't think I have the time for all that actually. Like checking evry posts and stuff.

trXD
29-09-07, 14:01
Yeah alot of responsibility is stuffed into the job which should be pretty rewarding in the end. It would be like "I just looked after a forum of over 7000 people, what have you done lately?"

xcrushterx
29-09-07, 14:02
Why are you obsessed about being a mod?

As for me, I don't know really. I doubt I'd be able to handle it.

29-09-07, 14:03
Nope. The only time I've been a mod was when someone asked me to be one. Actually been on two forums as a mod. Didn't visit for few months and I got demodded. :p And I hardly even go on them forums. They suck! (sorry Saki :))

Absolutely not. I think it would take all of the fun out of it. And certain people should not be moderators no matter how much time they spend here or how many posts they have, I know that the braintrust here choose wisely. All of the mods here are excellent.

A member is awarded the Moderator position because they hold outstanding knwledge in a particular area in the forum.

What part would you lik to be a Mod over?

The TRLE forum Mods are Titak (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/member.php?u=8205), Uvavoo (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/member.php?u=4521)- do u think u are better them these 2 at TRLE. I doubt it.

Yes, I would. I spent soo much time on these forums everyday. I caught Tomb Raider Firefly forum when it appeared for a few seconds (before anything was revealed) I was there when Legend Lara was first revealed and the link of her was posted (before I registered). I was there when Anniversary Edition Trailer was revealed, and I saw it, only before it was cut off. I was there when CD's Anniversary Animations were revealed. I was there when the Anniversary Edition Concept Art was showed (before the thread was deleted). So I spend ages everyday going through this forum. I try to help people in Tech Support when they have computer problems, I try and help people when they are stuck in games. I spend about 2 hours on the forums everyday, (as you can see I usually am on) so I would really love to become a mod. And maybe I will become one in a few years (when I get my post count up to atleast 10,000 lol!)

Well, a moderator is expected to show intelligent and mature behavior. If someone shows that he/she refuses to care about proper grammar, then chances of them being grown up enough to shoulder all the responsibility are low. Admit it: Would you really listen to a mod that says:
Dis tread is so spam! :cen::cen::cen: i clos tis. next time u wil be baned! :jmp::jmp:

You spelled 6 words wrong :p

No one's perfect, but with a little attention you can avoid such small mistakes, and that results in more readable posts.

But really, if you want to be a mod so much, then practice English a bit more, if you're not a native English speaker. :)

^ AoD?

My stance on being a mod, is that I wouldn't like to be one. I've been there and done that as a small-time admin and its hard to have to be the one who needs to be impartial and goes by the rules. It doesn't make you popular and there's a lot that happens behind the scenes to keep things running. I imagine its the same here only to a larger extent.

Thankfully, we don't have that much to do with forum politics. About the only thing we do that you don't see us doing - we have a say in who's asked to be a mod, but that's about it. I'd say we're more there for the members than for the forums themselves, our job is to make sure the boards are a tidy and safe discussion platform.

Yeah. I reckon it's really more accurate to describe us as housekeepers than managers or bosses. If you were to think of TRF as a building, we'd be the staff and you'd be the guests. We clean up the food you grind into the carpet, close doors after you, escort you to the right rooms when you get lost, return books to the bookshelves, switch off the lights after you, chuck out the gatecrashers who try to start brawls, turn salesmen away from the doors, etc.

We male mods deserve the money we get. Whenever we start a new relationship in r/l, we have that awkward moment where we have to explain to our partners that we spend a lot of our time on a gaming forum. Non-TR-playing women find this geeky, and for at least a few minutes they look at us funny and contemplate adjourning the relationship so they can confer with their girlfriends as to whether the whole thing is worth carrying on with or not.

Now compare and contrast to when a female mod tells a new b/f about the forum-modding thing ; the guy is likely to go "I've landed a games-obsessed chick! Cooool!!!"

And why am I not impressed!
It's good to see your humour!;)

Btw, I think being a moderator is having a great responsability to keep things balanced, and also the fact of being (I think) impartial would be hard to me. Sometimes, I'm like Filipa said:
Sitop spam33ing or 1'LL bani u!!!!!:cen::cen::cen::cen:

Another point: I'm not saying that the actual mods are showing power over the othere members, but I think some people would like to be mods only to say "I'm important here, unlike you, little rat..." (not you Filipa, imo you would be a great one, unless you would only order me to shut me up:D)

Fish.

i dont think i will be visiting this thread any more. I was just saying that i would enjoy being a mod and then asked if any one else wanted to be a mod and people just keep being rude to me. I feel like i cant even say the world moderator without being shot

Escaping from arguments that you knew were coming... *sighs* Child, you do not strengthen from cowardice. :p

Nope. Too much of a work in such a big board. The only thing I envy about them is that they can create polls:D
