Hi there, my cousin and i was having a long debate earlier about which console is better, Xbox 360 or PS3, and i really cant make my mind up, see the thing is , i want either for christmas, but cant decide which one. so which one would you say is better and why? give a score out of 10. mark it on things such as graphics, processing power, ability, etc... and then at the end give it an overall score. any help would be much appreicaited. and i know there are many xbox 360 and ps3 fans out there so i dont want any needless squabbling, i just want your honest opinion....

Why was it unstickied? I thought it was a pretty good thread and it stopped repetitive threads like this popping up.
I think it was because tlr wanted the number of sticky threads to be reduced. Not sure.
Ps3 is deffo best for what it can do and hardware reliability but the 360 is best in terms of the games it has and its online service :).

Congrats on being made a moderator.
BOT: Look at the games that are available on each console and what you like to play. Pay attention to the exclusives since for the multiplatform games the XBox360 has the advantage (because it is cheaper and many of the multiplatform games have been better on the 360).
Then go for the console that has the games that you really like.

Just finished Heavenly Sword today, what a blast - brilliant story, engaging combat system, incredible voice acting and stunningly beautiful presentation - 9/10 from me :D
Anyway to the matter in hand, as I said on another topic just wait and buy the PS3 - it's the best console imo and even though the 360 does have great games now - in the long run PS3 will triumph, here's why!! :)
1 - Better games like: Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Oblivion, Devil May Cry 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Silent Hill 5, Resi Evil 5, Kingdom Hearts 3, God of War 3, Tomb Raider Legend II, Star Ocean 4, Assassin's Creed, GTA 5, Metal Gear 4 and so on!! :D
2 - Games actually look AMAZING!! - the presentation in HS is absolutly stunning, it's pushing the PS3 to the edge, Right NOW!! as motion captured cutscenes, fluid and graceful animations, those bright, gorgeous sun-kissed enviroments which you could just drink up and a whimsical musical score and fantastic voice acting round out a true showcase of the PS3's capeabilities - asked to describe this game in one word - INCREDIBLE!!! :jmp:
This truly is what next-gen graphics are able to achieve, the Xbox 360 also has great looking games but the fidelity of the PS3's visual prowress is such that there really is going to be only one winner between these graphical powerhouses - the PlayStation 3!! :D
And don't even get me started on the beautiful - Uncharted, the OMFG incredible - FFXIII and hum it's sooo lush - Oblivion ;)
3 - Delivers a media centre/next-gen games console capeable of lasting the next ten to fifteen years of games - In a few years I can just picture it: Sony is going from strength to strength, releasing big name titles with fab visuals and incredible new gameplay ideas - MS on the other hand is still releasing Xbox 360 - only this time it's their 8th version complete with HD-DVD drive built in - a feature that should have been there from the start... :rolleyes:
4 - Know your motion!! Sony's motion sensitive SIXAXIS controller is going to give developers a tool which allows the player to interact with their games - simmilar to the Wii remote, though obviously not as intuitive - this controller is going to give the PS3 an edge!!
MS's 360 has no-motion control - now it's a shame granted but they only have themselves to blame, I guess copying Nintendo would seem alittle desperate right enough... although latest rumour is they ARE developing a simmilar controller - MS shame on you!! :tea:
Anyhow PS3 is going to do marvelous things in the years ahead, and no btw I'm certainly not a fanboy! - I have a 360 and play it often, it's a fun console too. :p
However it's just that I've finally been able to experience what the next-gen games consoles are really all about - A fun, engaging gameplay experience with various components which are all held together with a beautiful, slick presentation and rounded off with an unbeatable sense of WOW - it's this wow-factor which the next-gen promised it would deliver and I've finally experienced it!! - and it ain't thanks to my white shiny 360 oh no... this experience has come only from the PS3!!! :jmp:
I love my 360 too though, was playing Legend on it yesterday, on Bolivia - my favourite part: "Goodbye crule world" **DIVE** CRUNCH, SPLATTER, DEAD - ah rest in peace Lara, rest in peace! :p
I believe both consoles are pretty much equal.. just its just a matter of personal taste. I liked the first xbox.. even though it was half a days work just to move it, bought the 360 after i stemmed my WoW addiction :p

Devil May cry 4 and Assassins creed are also being developed for the xbox 360 as well. Think you mean GTA 4.. rather than 5.. which is also being developed for the xbox 360.

Both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 have equal graphical power.. and thats just it.. they're equal.

the xbox 360 was released nearly 2 years before the PS3.. the need for more disk space wasn't needed then.. and isn't really needed now given that developers are still producing great titles for the xbox 360 even though its games are on DVD.
As regards to having an inbuilt HD-DVD drive.. it would of been nice but still it doesn't really matter atm.
Only versions of the xbox 360 i know is the Core (discontinued) Premium (standard) and the elite.

6 of my friends own a PS3.. they've said that the motion sensing is completely pointless and that they've hardly used it. The Wii remote is something different although i still favour the standard controller over it.. feels more natural.
Microsoft were aiming for something different when they built the 360.. not some fad. I also doubt microsoft are developing a controller with motion sensing.

I hate how people saying the PS3 has better hardware then the Xbox360. Sony haven't even released the hardware info about the PS3. So it probably have the same amount of ram etc.. as the Xbox360.

I've been a full-blooded PlayStation player up to now. I'll be getting a Xbox 360 Elite next month. Buying PS3 when the price gets lower. Maybe even buying a Wii someday. But right now 360 is at the top. Although the "Ring Of Death" phenomenon worries me.

Actually, new 360s are being released with another heat pipe (to cool) and a new 65mm chip.
Games are really all for the 360. Hardware probably won't crap out on you, it's only like 5 percent that happens. Still, one in 20 people. But it's most likeley it won't happen. I'd go with 360.

Its more then just a game console, its like an entertainment system

Better games are subjective, but, if you take from the ratings standpoint; 360 has the better games. Also quite a few of those games you listed are available for the 360, one of those games is a remake of a Xbox game and the sequal to that remake will only be available on the 360, and one of them is an FPS, which is something the 360 does quite well.

Bioshock shows this as well. So does Gears of War, and Mass Effect. When it comes down to it, the visual differences between the two consoles will not be noticeable, or they will be very slight. Also, in order to experience these difference and to truly see the quality of a PS3 game vs a 360 game ... they'd have buy a top of the line HDTV. If you don't one that can show these games at 1080p then there's really no argument for the visual department. And again, if it were it would be between anti-aliasing (360) or color (PS3).

The irony makes me laugh loud and hearty :D First off, the sixaxis hasn't really been all that great a feature. Also loved how Sony dissed MS for using rumble ... and now they're putting rumble back into their own controls.
Oh, as for the irony. Shame on MS for thinking of developing a motion controller and ripping it off from Nintendo? How about shame on Sony for ACTUALLY ripping off motion control from Nintendo? And while we're at it also shame on Sony for ripping off of MS for wanting to incorporate Entitlements (Achievements). Tsk tsk.

for people on low incomes, it's good that a 40GB has been released for £300, and that the 60GB is £350
good move by Sony but it needs a steady flow of games, which i will add, 360 has been out for a whole year longer than PS3................of course it'll have more games, in short the "lack of games" excuse is poor at best :D
The lack of games excuse is something I'm not worried about in the least.
I'm 200% sure that Sony will have amazing games. They've just had a slow start (not really, but it should be faster because of the competition).
But in 2008, they will release a ton of mindblowing games. But not only games, there's HOME, video-on-demand, improving remote-play functions, DualShock 3 and god knows what more surprises Sony has in store for us.
That's why I like Sony so much, they're always thinking about the future as well as the present. They always come up with new stuff and aren't afraid to experiment.

That's your opinion, I'm a FF fan and I know there's no way the series is heading to the 360 - off shot of this? you simply HAVE to own the PS3 if your into Final Fantasy. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a beauty, it's a brand new series - only for the PS3! No, SIGMA, what the PS3 is getting, is just a rehash of Ninja Gaiden from the Xbox (Cash-in for PS3 in other words). NG2 is an ACTUAL sequel, hence the 2 at the end of it.

And so are the 360 games. In fact quite a few of the games that are out for both consoles show up better on the 360. There are only a few games that games that show up better on the PS3. Besides that, usually, the differences between the two are very slight, and choosing between one or the other just depends on what you prefer to play it on.

Ah yes, with their newly (new, as in a different version, as in you stating that there will be another version of the 360 down the road) version of the PS3 that is so basic as to be useless, is quite the system seller for parents and kids who don't know the differences between them.
I'm gonna give you some advice, graphics don't matter in the long run. Are they important? Yes. Is it what sells a game? No. Does it sell consoles? Only to those mesmerrized by all the pretty colors. That's why the Wii is in first place of this console war. They make fun games, in spite of the graphics not being as good.The 360 has a lot of fun games as well, hence why it's in second place in terms of sales. The PS3 ... hype sells that machine. I know quite a few people will not be getting a PS3 until everything that Sony promised will come to the PS3 actually DOES come to the PS3. As for their games? Yes, I did with the same for the PS3. I didn't seperate them in my post, cause I figured people could see that themselves.

Every region (US/EU/JAPAN) has 2 versions of the PS3.
The 360 has the Core System, the Elite, the normal system and the Super Size pack.
And one more thing: you do realize you counted the HALO bundle yourself? That's the only reason I counted the bundles in the first place ;).

I think she was talking about the IP in general...since many people bring up the IP in general as exclusive. I don't think FF XIII will come out to another console unless the other SquareEnix RPGs do well on the 360 AND if FF XIII doesn't do well enough on the PS3.

Uh.......I like to adjust my filters so that I get more than one minimum review per game.
R&C (A good game, btw) has only one rating for them to rank. If one person gives a Sour Grapes review, it could drop like a stone. (okay, okay, it's unlikely, but mathematically the principle holds. The average score of one review is the score of the one review)
The others have more ratings to average out. I filter by about 40 minimum reviews on Gamerankings cause that gives me a pretty broad look at the impression the game made.

I don't know if YOU are guilty of this, but a common misconception is that the 360 is "an FPS console" and is dismissed as being limited to that. Just like the PS3, the 360 has a wide variety of games in its library...and it's library is fairly extensive. Yes, it does have more FPS games, but then it has more games overall, too, so that is natural.
But it IS ironic that the "non-FPS console" has FPS games at the top of it's (wide search) Gamerakings rating. :D

It's not ignorance on RedTyga's part. Yes, the BluRay increases the cost. In fact, Sony loses more per console in order to make the BluRay player so cheap for it's customers.
The problem is that Sony is using it's Playstation brand to promote a specific media hardware and has not focused on what made the Playstation brand a force to be reckoned with: Games.
THAT is why you've had the "just wait" syndrome. THAT is why a lot of people have been "just waiting" for the system to kick in before they go buying it. In the meantime, the competition has covered the casual and hardcore gamer markets (Wii and 360 respectively).
Sony did NOT come out of the gate running this time. The folks who shelled out a lot of money on their GAME system are understandably frustrated that they are being told to wait more for the killer apps and to go watch some Blu Ray DVDs in the meantime.
I didn't buy my 360 because I needed a DVD player. I bought it to play games. The system has delivered. The PS3 has games as well, obviously, but nothing has been met with as much enthusiasm as many of the 360 exclusives.
Otherwise, 3rd party games are becoming more and more available for both systems....so really all you get out of BluRay right now is a reason to spend even more money upgrading your DVD collection.
Will the PS3 do better? Yes, I think that 2008 will be a much better year for the PS3....but what PS3 fans seem to think is that the 360 will be standing still as far as games are concerned. There are a lot of games coming out in 2008 for both systems that look worthwhile.
It's just gonna be a closer race than anyone who paid $600 for their system to really appreciate. (purchasing the 40GB makes a close console race easier to deal with).

The elite doesn't include the new chip.. only the falcon premium models and a few of the halo 3 limited edition consoles do.
Chips don't cool down a console.. and as i've said many many many many many many many times before.. they added New heatsinks, fans and thermal materials to the post july models. All European elites came with these already installed.

here's some PS3 facts for you
A) reliable
B) rather low install base (it's main rival had a YEAR head start)(see point D)
C) not many killer 3rd party games (exclusives)(as yet)(killer app is subjective)
D) it is too pricey (for low income families)
E) it is hard to develop for
F) has very poor ports because devs can't be bothered optimising for the PS3
i see positives and negatives in that list, i am surprised though that 360 fanboys aren't yelling "PS3 is only reliable because it has no games to play,therefore never turned on" meh!!! :ton:

Actually i did. One was like 30 seconds, the other was with some guy going to turn on the 360 and the red lights came up, the other is some guy complaining about his 360.

I've said this before, I will buy a 360 in a heartbeat once the console shows me something I desire.
The reason I bought a PS3 and not a 360 is mainly the hardware failure problem. Why on earth would I spend so much money, to live in fear of such an expensive device breaking down on me?
If there was a LCD TV on the market that breaks down more than others, why would I consider buying it, when the competition has the same LCD TV with the same function, but without the hardware failing problems?
I AM looking at the competition.. and I definitely don't think Microsoft is evil. I've probably been the only person not to bash Microsoft up untill by posting video's, seeing as you guys felt the need to do that with Sony as well.
And companies might only want to make money, but they sure as hell are dependant on people who are loyal.
And since Sony have given me 2 consoles which both work after 10 years, I don't see any reason to switch to the competition who has a console with that many defects that it became famous because of it.
As for you little comment about me naming non-exclusive games, here you go: Uncharted, Warhawk, Metal Gear Solid, LittleBigPlanet, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, Tekken(6), probably God of War 3, Jack & Daxter and Kingdom Hearts 3 as well.
So don't act like the PS3 doesn't have exclusives, cause some of the biggest names in gaming world are PS3 exclusive. Just like Microsoft has some great exclusives. Just non that appeal to me, besides Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

The only game I will be slighlt missing is Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Cause I liked NGS on PS3. I played through it once and after that never touched it again, but for as long as it lasted, I really enjoyed it.
So no, the 360 hasn't convinced me yet to buy it.

At any rate, if I were to draw a comparison between the two, my own preferences would be evident. If I were to look more objectively at the pros/cons of both here is what they would be:
PS3:

I'm not keen on mindless bashing, either. From what you just said, I think you can relate to my need to correct factually erroneous talking points.
I laughed at the MS press conference when they described themselves as having the greatest console of all time. I enjoy my 360, but I would hardly call it the "greatest of all time".....it's waaaaay too young for THAT particular title. (My opinion on the frontrunners is between the SNES and the PS2).
Then again, I laugh a lot at all pretension. I just don't like it when people talk about consoles, but can't help but regurgitate the marketing spin that both of those companies do.
From a purchaser standpoint, I see things differently than they do. I judge things differently than a marketer does. To me, it doesn't matter if BluRay or HD-DVD is doing better this month. I'm patient enough to wait for the dust to settle. In the meantime, I have my standard DVDs to watch, so I don't feel I'm missing out on anything.

I think a discussion of the advantages/disadvantages to the consoles can be done...the trick is to really take it from a purchaser standpoint and not be an unpaid PR rep for either company.
For example: While I enjoy my 360, I will never be an apologist for the failure rate. I think it is shoddy and unacceptable. I think that if MS were in a stronger lead position in the market, that they would NOT have offered the extended warranty. Right now the race is too close for them to NOT address it....so I don't see the extended warranty as "generous" on MS' part...but merely the least they could do.
That's the kinda Purchaser point of view that I think is valid.
So it's good that the "war" is cancelled between us. I think we would both agree that it is counter-productive and a more reasonable approach would do better to help people "on the fence" for choosing their next console.

The Sony franchises coming out over 2008 are no surprises, though. Granted, they have some HUGE titles coming to them (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Gran Turisimo.....those are system-selling franchises right there) but the 360 also has some of its own franchises coming out over 2008.
I think the difference is that the MS ones are a bit newer, so won't be "on the radar" as much for someone who is more geared toward Sony products. It's safe to say that 2008 will be a pretty good year for this hobby, if a bit expensive, regardless of which console you own.

Personally I only bought the 360 because of Tomb Raider Legend(The 360 one had better graphics) but I think it was an okay choice
Ps3 has some way better games like Ratchet and Clank but it doesn't necesarily have better graphics, atleast as far as multiplatform games are concerned. Most multiplatform games will look better on the 360 so dont buy the ps3 thinking youll definately get the best performance from everything.
