View Full Version : Sixaxis ideas

Since TR8 is going to be on the PS3, I thought it would be good to think of ways to utilize the Sixaxis. One idea would be to use it while moving objects around and breaking things loose - imagine Lara grabs something that is stuck in a wall (using the grab button), then yank the Sixaxis controller back to yank it out (or even twist it to twist something in a wall), make some things nearly stuck, where it requires some sharp movements with the Sixaxis to remove it or knock it loose. When dragging something, you could use a combination of grab button and Sixaxis motion to drag, turn, push, or even flip over various objects - or if you wish to sling it (grab, jerk the controller in a direction, and let go of grab), this could also work for melee attack moves.

Another possible idea is to add "balancing" as a move - imagine Lara climbing on some rubble, or some jagged rocks, where it would be easy to trip or fall, the Sixaxis could be used to get Lara to balance in the desired position while scrambling amongst treacherous areas that could avalanche at any moment.

If anyone has any ideas for the Sixaxis, lets hear them.

love those ideas. I was thinking that perhaps you could use the sixaxis to control the grapple. When you jump, flick the controller to throw the grapple. Or if using the grapple to fight enemies, like in legend, you could flick the controller to throw the grabbed enemy in whichever direction you like.

The grapple idea is a good one, I could just see Lara grapple a small enemy then start slinging and slamming it into everything - sort of Whiplash style :vlol:. Talk about Whiplash, I bet the Sixaxis controller as well as the Wiimote would be perfect for that game (or a sequel - wishful thinking).

Good ideas :). But that balancing is from Uncharted .

That's a pretty good idea and if it was a heavier object you'd have to pull harder or pull faster. I'm not too keen on the whole grappling idea though.

I don't really like the whole motion detection idea. I move alot when I play games =/

Nice ideas though.. but still.

This is a very stupid question I'm gonna ask.

It is going to be released for PS2 also, right? Not just PS3?

It's highly unlikely.

Oh, God.

You're kidding.

That'd be stupid if they don't release it also for PS2. Not a lot of people can afford PS3... It's still 400-500 dollars, at least in my country. I might sound childish but I don't think it's fair.

Anniversary was released for all game counsels. Including PS2 and 3, if I'm not mistaking. Correct me if I am.

Anniversary initially came out for PS2, PSP & PC, but it's now getting released for the Wii and Xbox 360 as well. No PS3.

Anyway, I think this is very fair. Next-gen games have been held back by last-generation consoles long enough, it's time to cut the cord. You don't see Halo 3 being released for Xbox 1, MGS4 for PS2, FF1232424(?) for PS2, GTA IV for Xbox 1 or PS2, God of War 3 for PS2, Ninja Gaiden 2 for Xbox 1 etc....you see what I'm getting at?

Ah "snaps fingers" you mean TR missed this opportunity to do Sixaxis balancing first - bummer. But then again, balancing on rubble seems more tomb raidery then many POP moves - I think they should go for it. Imagine Lara balancing with Sixaxis while earthquakes are going on - really miss these earthquakes in TR.

Yeah. I get what you're saying and it makes sense.

I find PS2 not so old - I don't know if you know what I mean there. It's not so 'old school.' I still find it to be not so fair because PS3 is ridiculously expensive. I was thinking, however, on buying the new console in a year or so - once the price reduces a bit.

But, what can I do? Either wait or just spend all my savings on PS3 just to get the Tomb Raider game.

Well, TR8 is unlikely to be here until xmas '08 at the earliest, so get your ps3 in a year's time and all will be rosy!

None of the suggestions so far would make six-axis a critical element of the game. They are all just mini-games that could be left out or replaced by other input methods just as well. I think that's great, as this means they won't be a problem when porting the game to platforms I use (PC, to be precise). I sure hope that CD won't rely on sixaxis being available for the basic controls, because any attempt to port that to PCs would suck even more than the controls do at the moment.

Thanks!

It got me sad and happy at the same time.

Sad that I have to wait till probably next X-mas for the next TR, but happy that it should give me enough time to save up money.

Thank you!
