I got my labtop last year around Feb, and a few months ago, I had to get it repaired to this little computer store called Computer Chaos for overheating problems, when I took it to get it repaired, It had sound on it, but when I got it back, he says my sound will never work again. I didnt ask any questions. Yes, of couse I was mad, I took it to get it repaired and he justs makes it worse. My computer is always telling me I have no sound card. What happend?

My computer is always telling me I have no sound card.
Post a dxdiag report and tell us your sound card manufacture, name and model.

Just export the dxdiag report as a file, and copy and paste it onto your USB flash drive. Use this removable device to send it to the internet-enabled computer. Post it below (Oh, OK)

Alright, be aware that my labtop doesnt have internet (anymore) and I am on a diferent computer, I have to transfer these files via flash drive.

I need the link to the Diag in order to do this..

Sound Tab 1: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
LOL

Here ya go (Download + Install) -> http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=21080&dscr=Windows

NOOO this one! http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=20819&dscr=Gateway (For Windows XP, not Vista)

You could have also used the Gateway Application/Driver Recovery to restore the drivers. http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/Medialess/MLXPH1/MLXPH1su2.shtml

NOTE: All drivers available here at any time! http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=1009033 This is your laptop -> http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/Blade/1009033nv.shtml

You basically have to locate the setup.exe file or the CAB folder after you have finished extracting. After installation is complete, restart computer and sound should be back!

Wow! Sorry I got off. I didnt mean to. Ill try what you did, and why the "OMG".., is it to hard to believee? Yeah, me to..

Anyway, it says "Driver installation complete." The results said "Failure".

What now?

The diag report lists the same, and I cant get you a screenshot of the message, but it says

Conentant AC-Link Audio Result: Failure.
This was the last step, I was supposed to press okay for the computer to restart, but intead, it says failure, I press ok, now I am back here. Help!

Sorry to say, Mr. Technician went and damaged the audio chipset permanently. But did you try to use Windows XP's System Restore to roll-back to a date before the technician repaired your computer?

My last advice: The technician probably disabled some settings in the BIOS like the onboard audio perhaps. Restart your computer and select "Restore Optimized Defaults" or whatever you select to get back the default settings. Save any changes made and exit.

For the first part, no, For the second, How ?

Ring_of_Fire
28-10-07, 05:51
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. Just roll-back to a date before the technician who probably messed up even some of the OS settings.

To go into the BIOS, restart computer and keep pressing either F1/F2/F10-12/Del

Give up then, anybody else want to continue helping? xD

You see Esconder, trlonline should do something to you too... you are like deleting my posts for no reason! Just because you had personal experience with me before, doesn't mean the rest of my post are going to be crappy ones.

For the first part, that option is not in there, second part, I could not be able to get anywhere.

Btw, you would make a great Tech mod! :D

To stop this kind of madness:

Tomb-Raider, do you have any driver installation CD with your laptop. If yes, use it to, install native sound driver.

Otherwise, we try to find one over the net :) The link above is correct Conexant AC '97 Audio driver (http://www.support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=20819&dscr=Gateway%20Conexant%20AC-Link%20Audio%20Driver%20version:%206.14.10.0575)

Only if native drivers won't work we can say sound chip is killed.

BTW, your sound chip can be disabled in BIOS. Press Del or F2 when your laptop boots and search for Onboard Audio/ AC '97 codec setting, turn it on, then exit BIOS with saving new settings.

WARNING! Your drive D contains bad sector/s, backup your necessary data, as it may fail. Consider you'll need new HDD. for your laptop.

Ive been trying to install those drivers all day but I cant,
anyway, my last chance is the CD

I put it in, I find an audio file, and an installation Icon. It started installing Realtek Audio something, and I had to restart my computer, but when restarts, things get confusing. It asks me for commands, I have to type, I cant get through! What do I do ?!

Tomb-Raider
28-10-07, 16:47
I have 2 choices. A total system restore, it says Windows XP will now reistall itself, something like that,

or boot to command prompt from CD-rom.

Then for the second choice, I have to type in some kind of command to get through. Help!

Remove the CD-ROM from the drive and reboot (press reset), don't boot from this CD.

Yes, that was my advice. But you should use the Application & Driver recovery method.

It's all here: http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/Medialess/MLXPH1/MLXPH1asi.shtml

And don't forget to edit your post, oh nevermind.

Lol, okay, i'll do a system restore.. I'll lose all of my sims 2 expansion packs, I dont even know where the installtion CD's are... My 1 hour flight simulator downloads... and patches and updates.. Directx 9 has to be installed again...

Would my sound be back if I did it ?

So far as registry settings go when you used to have sound drivers installed on a working audio chipset, I am not sure if Windows will perform miracles for you.

Lol, okay, i'll do a system restore.. I'll lose all of my sims 2 expansion packs, I dont even know where the installtion CD's are... My 1 hour flight simulator downloads... and patches and updates.. Directx 9 has to be installed again...
No it won't. You can back up the entire main game folder onto a DVD-RW and export all the registry settings into a file if you think it will. Plus the System Restore changes are reversible.

System Restore doesn't cause you to lose everything and it is completely reversible - assuming you did the way I showed you by going to the start menu and finding your way there. Did you try the Application and Driver Recovery method? But you shouldn't do a System Recovery as that's something different.

^Thank you Alex;)

I know you didn't, but try asking the tech why he said your sound won't work. There is a chance that he damaged the chip, or disabled it somehow, while working on the computer.

Sounds like it's time for f-disk (man's best friend).

Then why not put a Linux distro on that unit and have some peace of mind.

OR

1. Enter BIOS by pressing Del or F2 at boot and find AC '97 audio and enable it. Save and exit then.

2. Boot Windows and try to install sound drivers that came on a CD with this computer.

3. If it works not, use above mentioned links to update the drivers.
