Hi guys.

What's the best Display Settings for TR Games, using FRAPS.?

I used the default 640x480 Resolution for TR3 to record with fraps, but I get a sloooooow 3fps result. I reduced the resolution to 320x240 and it goes up a bit to 7fps.

Are there any other settings I can change to increase FPS size? (By the way, I set the FRAPS FPS Recording to 29.something.)

Would it also work better is I made it a windowed game? Which I dont know how to do xD All I know is you press ALT-F4 to window the game in TR4/TRLE.

Zac, :wve:

When Fraps records a video, it does require quite a lot of resources to write it smoothly. To speed my FPS up, I close down unneceserry background programs, also on one game, I had the resolution up high which slowed down the frame rate, so I change it to a lower resolution and the fps was alot better. It also depends on your computer system itself.

The game itself may require alot of resources so Fraps can record as quick as it could, but since you're doing it on TR3 which doesnt use much, its a bit unusual.

1. You must choose what purpose you're taking the video for: quality video, or just a stream to show the new bug you've found, etc.

2. What are your PC specs?

3. Obviously windowed play will give you better FPS. Just tell me the version you need to run windowed.

To play the old TR's in windowed mode you can go to the start menu and find the place where the game is installed and then click on setup, you should find it there! ;) Fraps, i have no idea. I'm trying to find out that myself.

EscondeR: The thing is, TR4 or TRLE Records PERFECTLY. At high resolution, but TR3 Doesnt.

Mads: There is no windowed option in the TR3 Setup ;)

^ You sure? *hurries up and installs TR3*

Won't you mind to run Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and post the report.

1. Reinstall TR3 completely (you have no info about it properly installed in the report), then run Multipatcher (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/vista/patch.html).

2. Update video (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_163.75.html) and audio (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false) drivers.

3. Kill those processes before recording TR3 with FRAPS (can stop your antivirus also):

That may be the reason.

I included an EDIT in my past post, I'm using the Demo Executable, as Im recording a custom outfit ;)

OK do the pos. 2-3 and set the resolution 640x480 16bit. You can turn off sound recording if you don't need it also.

2. I can't update my drivers at the moment. Im on Crappy Dial-up. Will it really make a difference?

3. I've de-activated most of them ;)

I tried the exact same thing the first time, Res-640x480 16bit, and no sound recording (I never use Fraps SOund Record, it always comes out distorted.) And I've tried it now, still 3fps. >_>

Well try updating drivers as you can. BTW, copy that demo executable somewhere for a while and run Multipatcher, then try recording and compare the FPS :)

~40mb and ~18mb, I dont think so. Not until Broadband comes my Way :)

Ok, I've just decided to try it with my TR3 on Disk. I've installed and used the trupdate ;) Still 3fps, even on the CD Version of the game ;)

Here are the settings I use......
And I get 30FPS. Without any problems at all....... As smooth as silk :D

Edit..... You PC looks similar in type to mine. AMD ....etc
I can not see why you have problems. Good luck, I hope this helps :D
