I think it adds to the game and makes Lara much more realistic, I wouldn't expect any woman to bash their upper chest hard against rocks without making a single sound in everyday life:tmb:

Arent grunts supposed to relive tention? I dont mind, considering most of her moves are extremely difficult (if not impossible) it do. It cant be as bad as AOD though, when she was doing hand over hand on a wire, now that DID sound sexual.

Angelus

They're better than the "HUH" noises from Legend and Anniversary. Made it sound like no effort was involved.

If you were actually pulling yourself up from a ledge, it would be quite normal to make a noise. "NGH".

They were a little bit exagerated in the past, there were reduced a lot in Legend, they reappeared in Anniversary but they are better than before.

No. :)

I missed it in legend (voice volume on zero turns off Tweedle-Dumb and Tweedle-Dee), and liked it in every other game.

There's no chance it won't return - it's something that adds to making Lara more of a 'living breathing human character'.

myrmaad

That is so disgusting! I guess that's what you'd think if you were at my gym? I've got news for you buddy. That's the sound of strenuous activity.

Walk your little behind down to your local gym and have a listen. Maybe try lifting weights yourself. If you do it right you'll be making a lot of sounds.

Conway
16-12-07, 14:54
It's funny that while these grunts are rather humanly impossible to do away with when doing stuff like what Lara does, the automatic impression of most people when Lara is the one doing it is that she's made to do so for fan service rather than emulating the obvious reality. By all means, keep them.

Hey, it's not just the women who are grunting, and it's not sexual. It's actually a very vulnerable position because you must make noises to lift weights, and even during strenuous core exercises, and when you are at your limit and pressing forward, and while I cover up well, the clothes are form-fitting, it really upsets me to think that people might be sexualizing it.

Sexual noises? Well... I guess some of them do sound kinda sexual if you have your mind in the gutter. lol No, but seriously the grunts Lara makes while grab ledges, jump from one thing to other, etc., are grunts anyone would make while doing this stuff. It adds more realism to the game, and to do away with them would feel awkward.

Me neither, not once in all the years I've been playing TR. I'd miss the grunts if they were gone, they add a lot of realism to the game. Lara does things a normal human being could never do, so the immense effort has to be visualized (or you'll get a Spider-Man effect like in Legend). Audio effects can enhance that illusion.

I'm starting to notice something:

A while back people were complaining about CD adding realism to the game, and any realistic feature that was added in Legend/Anni was most likely shot down with a lot of people hating it, but when it comes to a realistic feature from the first 6, people would complain if it went, because "They're taking the realism from the games". It's almost like a lot of people don't like CD's games because they can't let go of the old ones. Meh, end rant =]

The grunts are just one feature that have to stay, IMO. Every game has grunts, so why should TR lose them?

When Lara was on the run she ate candy bars to keep her strength up. We don't see her taking a dump either or squatting to pee, but if we've suspended our disbelief enough to buy into "LaraWorld" and immerse ourselves into it, we have some basic assumption that she takes care of that behind the scenes (like in books, movies, etc, you normally aren't privy to all the character's activities of daily living).

Mona and Matrix made me laugh, but seriously, I find the sexualization of the sounds a bit disturbing. When your male characters grunt during a game do you sexualize those as well? I can't help feeling like this is a bit of feminine exploitation (on the part of those who imagine them sexualized).

I really don't see how the sounds could sound not-sexual. They're the sounds a woman makes when under physical strain... and sex -is- physical strain. :)

I liked the little noises of utter frustration...

It won't be long now before someone posts a gameplay vid with added sounds that really do sound sexual...

I think sexuality/non-sexuality of the grunts are really dependent on the player's perception ;) Really though, if I was hauling myself up on a ledge taller than I am, I'd be making all sorts of noises, too.

It sounds to me like you want her to sound like a man. :p

Keep it the way it is.

Who cares if it's sounds sexy? :D

They do not sound sexual, I just double-checked (with my husband's help).

its not annoying, i mean, if u jump from a high place and land on hard wood or somethin, u would scream... :tea:

:tea: What a funny thread....LMAO. :vlol: and a weird one.

Only at first, years and years ago, they sounded weird. But now, its part of the adventure..... Think about how weird it would if she was running crazy, and jumping, and backflipping, and sideflipping without a single noise.

Without the noises, she would look like a mannequin.

BTW, lets stay alert and keep this thread PG-13 at most. :cln: :cln:

Is anyone else sick of hearing sexual noises everytime we decide to jump or grab a ledge. I know it has been reduced since aod but i still think its a bit annoying. Do you guys think it should be gotton rid of in underworld? You're still premature to understand what those sounds means m'boy. Those are the sounds of greatness and it sells. ;) *wink eye*

edit: lol just read the posts about Kurtis' grunt by trXD. :vlol: And matrix, your post makes me laugh, people are looking at me.

What a thread! :D Lol, Im not tired of those sounds...in AOD they were extremely funny (because they were QUITE exaggerated), but they added some diversity. Id like them to be present (but not thaaaat sexual) in TRU.

It is kinda annoying like at times when its really unappropriate, like when she's pulling up from a ledge or just jumping. Besides that, I don't mind it

I really liked the grunts from TRA. I hope they are similar. AoD on the other hand, was quite inappropriate!!

And Legend's were just a BIG MESS

I think that they should make the noises accurate with what she is doing I remember jumping to a ledge and Lara doing a sort of inappropiate (not in the sense of naughty) grunt for the action. :p

^ Lol, I agree.
I liked TRA sounds because they actually did that. When you jump off of a high ledge and just about loose all of your health, she actually makes a grunt that sounded like that fall really hurt her :)

I didn't actually think of them as "sexual noises". They are more like grunts to me. In fact, I do them to when I bump into something, etc. It's all part of the game, they should keep them there forever! :tmb:

If you think the Lara grunt is annoying... *plays Kurtis grunting* think again! :mis:

I've personally never had a problem with Lara's grunt while she desperately makes massive jumps towards ledges, but I will admit that some of her yelling and grunting were unusually loud. I'll say that as long as she doesn't grunt in every one of her jumps - it's alright with me.

if i was gay and someone laughed at me being gay then i would be insulted

If you were gay and someone called you gay, why would you be insulted? They would simply be stating a fact.

:vlol: @ thread title.

Reminds me of the time Mum came home from shopping early and hear "moans" coming from my bedroom. She went to investigate (thinking I was up to no good) only to find me repeatedly throwing Lara into a wall in TLR.....

Since then, If she hears moans coming from my room, she assumes its Lara and walks away.....Big mistake :mis:

Reduced? I think it was the worst ever in Anniversary, she was almost screaming at the times, I sure hope they won't keep the same sounds from Ann. The Legend's were better, but kind of unrealistic for my taste, I hope it'll be new, and not exaggerated.
