Seoul (South Korea) - A judge this week ruled that a music video from Korean singer "Ivy" maliciously infringed on Square Enix copyrights with regard to Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

The music video (http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/35229/118/#) used elements of the movie's "storyline, setting, characters and their style of dress," according to the ruling. Advent Children is a theatrical sequel to the Playstation video game Final Fantasy VII.

"This judgment by the Seoul Central District Court is stringent in comparison to other copyright infringement cases in South Korea, and we appreciate that the maliciousness of this infringement has been recognised in a public forum," Square Enix general counsel Yasuhiko Hasegawa was quoted as saying in a Hollywood Reporter article.

Square Enix is known almost notoriously for its protection over its content. At trade shows (http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/35229/118/#) and press events, it rarely allows attendees to film any of the material on display.

The Korean case wasn't a windfall for the epic video game (http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/35229/118/#) giant, though. The producer of the music video, Fantom Entertainment, has been fined the equivalent of around $11,000, with individual directors involved fined a total of an additional $13,000.

Personally I think the fine should have been much, much more, but hey, at least some justice was served.

And by the way... the ending was pathetic. :vlol:

Hmm. I always thought it was Square's own music video but the music didn't really suggest that (Square and their powerful emotional music). The fine isn't too bad. But eh.. that's what you get for stealing stuff.

The music video was kinda funny. :p

Lol I remember when they posted the video on the General FF thread. It was kind of weird to see the fighting scene like that but I thought they had the permission of Square to do that. X_X

Not to mention the ending was the weirdest of all the things in the video! :vlol: :p

The ending track sounds like a ripoff from Harry Gregson Williams! It sounds so similiar to MGS 3 where Snake escapes the prison and the dogs and guards are chasing him in the sewers. O.o

Meh.. now that's a proper ripoff vid.

No, I didn't see any relation to AC in that at all!

When you said that I heard it again and it reminded me of MGS3 so I searched for that part of the game and it does sound awfully alike!

Also whats funny about the video is the little girl's expressions like in 3:29. :p

Final Fantasy live action anybody. :ton: I liked the song though but I don't get why they had to make the music video so close to Tifa's fight scene. I'm actually surprised they didn't include the cell phone bit.

I actually thought that video was licensed or was allowed by Square to use spot-on AC scenes in it. Too bad they'll have to pay for being such big fans.

What if they went after the fine folks (most of them anyway) over at OCRemix? I mean, if they started making videos of their remixes?

Good video, but they really could have thought up something more original.

I've seen the original 'Tifa fight scene in the church' and It's pretty much obvious that the song ripped it off.
