First, we had surround sound, then Philips AmBX came along to add such things as wind blasts, whole-room lighting effects, and chair rumbles. Now one British-based company is getting into the game one stage further--with electric-shock gaming.

Mindwire, based in Manchester, has come up with the MindwireV5, which consists of five adhesive pads that can be attached to the arms, legs, and stomach and will give "sensory feedback" as gamers play. The site includes a handful of warnings about the usage of the product, as well as a handy guide showing where it's safe to position the pads (pictured below).

According to the official Web site, the MindwireV5 will work out of the box with most current PlayStation 2 games, along with Xbox and GameCube games, as well as with PC games, which support force feedback.

The company thinks that the accessory works best with fighting games, shooters, sports games, and driving games.

According to the blurb, "This latest must-have games accessory gives you the feeling of all the action, from the sensation of a crashing car to the blast of a machine guns' multiple bullets hitting you; a sharp zap all the way through to a soft massaging feeling." It costs £129.99 ($256.56).

Yeah, because I really want to know what it feels like to be in a car crash and get shot. I suppose it would make FPS deathmatches a bit more interesting though... :whi:

oh wow...I need to try that. It'll make playing Call of Duty a whole new experience. Ouch...
EDIT: just saw the price. yeah right. I'm not going to pay $200+ to get zapped each time I screw up. I'll just have my cousin punch me each time I get shot.

I was thinking the same thing :) I'd prefer something which will give me a reward when I do something good, as opposed to punishing me when i get it wrong :)

Thats pure evil!

But tbh, its definatly not something I would like to buy. How about games like halo where I die all the time? Im gonna die in real life because of all the pain that little machine is going to cause me. :/

Ouch! I definitely wouldn't play UT with that. Get shocked every five seconds. Curl up on the ground twitching after one match. :vlol:

:vlol: Good plan.

I played something like this at the mall once, in some game store... Only it wasn't a videogame, it was this thing for 4 players and you hold onto a handle and you get zapped if you answer a question wrong or something... I was too chicken to keep my hand on the zapper thingy though. :p Using it in videogames should be interesting for those who are actually gonna blow $200 on it.

If I were playing against you and was strapped to this I'd probably be fried in a few minutes.

*groans and hands over Pun Queen crown to new Pun King*

You know, I think I might be the only person whose initial thought was 'I bet certain Sim patches will just explode once this is out' as opposed to 'ouch, bullets'.

:o Heheheheheeee....
