Xbox 360 leads 2007 market share by value
Takes 18.6% of the market and is closely followed by the DS with 18.2%.
According to figures supplied to MCV by ELSPA and ChartTrack it is the Xbox 360 which has earned the largest market share by value in 2007. Microsoft's second home console took an 18.6% market share and is followed by the Nintendo DS with 18.2%.
"The high points have been Xbox 360, which was the clear winner in the home console market," ChartTrack director Dorian Bloch told MCV. "The really big area of growth is console handheld, which in terms of units and value has hit an all-time high. DS has really been a star performer - handheld took nearly a third of the market in unit terms and almost a quarter in value."
The PC (including sales of non-game software) took a 17.9% market share by value and topped the market share by units with 23.2%. Despite this ChartTrack has highlighted the format as struggling in 2007.
"PC games haven't performed quite so well," said Bloch. "PC games is a key area that has seen market value decrease in the current generation."
The PlayStation 3's market share by value was only 9.1%, around half that of the Xbox 360 and lower than the PS2 (15.3%) and Wii (13.2%).
