“July 2008 will mark the transition of Bill Gates out of a day-to-day role in the company to spend more time on his global health and education work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The company announced a two-year transition process to ensure that there is a smooth and orderly transfer of Gates’ daily responsibilities, and said that after July 2008 Gates would continue to serve as the company’s chairman and an adviser on key development projects.”

Many people don't like him but I'm never against him :) At least I'm using windows more than 10 years now :p

Why did people not like Bill Gates? If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have the Internet!

I personnaly don't like him, and it make no difference even Bill Gates retires. He still will make ideas for the software.

He has make one of the most vulnerable and expensive OS out there, beside monopolizing the entire market, in everything.

The British Post Office, Western Union International and Tymnet collaborated to create the first international packet switched network, referred to as the International Packet Switched Service (IPSS), in 1978. This network grew from Europe and the US to cover Canada, Hong Kong and Australia by 1981. By the 1990s it provided a worldwide networking infrastructure.

In 2000, Gates and his wife founded the charitable Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_%26_Melinda_Gates_Foundation). The generosity and extensive philanthropy of David Rockefeller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Rockefeller) has been credited as a major influence. Bill Gates and his father have met with Rockefeller several times and have modeled their giving in part on the Rockefeller family (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockefeller_family)'s philanthropic focus, namely those global problems that are ignored by governments and other organizations.[51] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Gates#_note-38)
The foundation's grants have provided funds for college scholarships (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scholarships) for under-represented minorities, AIDS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIDS) prevention, diseases prevalent in third world (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_world) countries, and other causes. In 2000, the Gates Foundation endowed the University of Cambridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Cambridge) with $210 million for the Gates Cambridge Scholarships (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gates_Cambridge_Scholarships). The Foundation has also pledged over $7 billion to its various causes, including $1 billion to the United Negro College Fund (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Negro_College_Fund). According to a 2004 Forbes magazine article, Gates gave away over $29 billion to charities from 2000 onwards. These donations are usually cited as sparking a substantial change in attitudes towards philanthropy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philanthropy) among the very rich, with philanthropy becoming the norm.

He's given more money to charity in one year than you ever will in your lifetime.
But of course, Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, especially if it accredits Bill Gates for anything.

Nothing against the charity :), but this is a typical bull**** that every millionaire would JUST do to act like a "Good Samaritan".

After you earn so much money don't you have to give whatever money you earn to charity?

Nope. But if I remember right you have to pay 10-25% to something else. But he have probably already done that a long time ago. Atleast that's how it's in Sweden.

Edit:
Will it make a difference when he's gone?

The whole "who invented the internet" thing can be argued extensively. No one country / person can be given credit; not the US and not the UK.

I hardly complain about other people's fortunes. I just think jesus solved this argument 2000 years ago...
