View Full Version : Comparing TRA Lara and TRU Lara --- what do you think about the face?

The first face is from TRU and the second is from TRA. I can happily say that the graphics have improved ALOT, and her face is more realistic, and less rounded, which is a great thing, but i think that she looks darker in TRU. She doesn't look like she's having fun and doing what she loves :(, she looks like she is being forced to do it, or is looking for revenge, now if you were Lara, and doing the thing that you love the most; tomb raiding, would you be looking that dead serious and dark? I wouldn't. I just think that the shadowing is a bit too intense, anyway that's just my opinion, what's yours? :confused:

She looks a bit older and slightly "beaten down" - presumably by the fans who decided she was expressing too many "girly" emotions... In all seriousness, she looks fine to me, but then I'm not going to analyse her every feature - I'll leave that to other people. ;)
I love the fact that she looks a lil' bit darker and more mature. Now get rid of mommy storyline and I'm the happiest fan in the world!
The new face is much better. You can take her seriously now as an adventurer, not some model trying to pose for the camera.

yes but dodging all those traps can be very grueling.
Lara is supposed to be 10 years older in TRU than in TRA. And obviously we can see it in the picture. But still, she is beautiful. :cln:

anyway i like TRU lara look in that picture, i hope she will be the same in game as well. i liked TRA lara's look too, but only in renders. in actual game she doesnt have that effect.

I think she looks great, but she lost a little of her sarcastic and witty edge to me, she looks a little to hardcore now, but that's just my opinion.
Underworld Lara looks simply amazing (except that one pic...:pi:)! :cln: She's never looked better in-game, than she does now. I can't wait to see her in motion! :D
I hate to add another post so quickly, but after looking some more her eyes look a little different to me, maybe narrower. That doesn't bother me as much about her eye brows though, they went from rather thick in Anni to almost transparent in Underworld. It may just be the picture though.

She's not older in TRU than in Legend.. it probably continues from Legend straight after. Unless you wanna count a say as older :vlol:.
But yeah, I can see a difference between the two models.

I completely agree with both of you, personally I prefered the legend eyebrows, in fact i think that those eyebrows are wayyy nicer than super thin ones even in real life, most women strive for relatively thin and arched eyebrows then super thin shapeless eyebrows. I think her face in Anniversary was a little too round, and that if they followed up with her face in Legend it would've been awesome!

It did not change much, but you can see she looks like she is angry now, like she is doing all of this for a mission greater than finding her mother back.. I wonder what it is.
Oo.. I just found out.. TRU might be connected to the end of TRLR... In theory the connection would make sense.. she is going to the underworld. the real question is why is she there. Did she really get there by finding a cave and enter through the front entrance or was she already in this cave (TRLR ending)

Meh, I wouldn't keep my expectations on that level. I mean, they have gone to the trouble of even making the search for the Scion be about finding her mum, I don't see how they would simply drop it now.

I love the new Lara looks, more serious and professional - my kickass action heroine. You don't expect James Bond to grin or happy baby face 24/7 do you? So is Lara.
new Lara looks bad ass imo, which is pretty cool

Ok... now Lara loves what she does, yes. But that doesnt mean that she has to have a fake smile on her face all the time. If she is being attacked be a couple of jaguars, or about to be squished between walls moving towards her... you do not expect her to be smiling! Especially when she's hanging off a cliff like that. :D Besides i like Lara not to be happy looking, but with a determined expression on her face. Yes, i love for her to grin like she does in that in-game pic...that is the Lara i love!:hug: Not an unexperienced woman that smiles constantly because she just got botox. :p

l prefer TRU Lara, but there is no point saying the graphics have improved a lot with the examples given since both are renders, not game models. While it is nice to compare the changes in the Lara we see in the advertising media, it really has no impact at all on the game. l am sure the TRU game model will be closer in looks to the rendered model though, because TRA Lara looked nothing like that render.
^ With the actual directx10.1 graphics they can make skin so realistic that will looks exactly like the render you won't even believe, if they really will use and i hope they will use
I love the new Lara - I no longer feel like I'm looking at an 18 year old on vacation from modeling school :D

Technically they can do all that with DX9.0c
This Lara looks alot better than the last one. She looks more real or natural. Her gaze looks more sharp and focused.
TRU lara looks way better...somehow I think TRA lara has baby pudge in her cheeks :D

On topic: As Aussie500 just pointed out, these two images are renders, not in-game shots. In-game TRA Lara looks nothing like this render. And from what we have seen of in-game TRU shots, I think I prefer TRU Lara. But of course, that could change. With nearly a year to go till TRU is released, the Lara model could look significantly different in the final version (for example, see the difference between beta versions of the Legend model and the final version).
I actually prefer the TRA Lara funnily enough.

I don't like renders of TRU Lara - except on "play" magazine... I prefer TRL&TRA Lara.

I think you might just be forgetting the rest of the picture that this is from? Lara is hanging by her fingernails above a very large, deep dark pit! I'm sure even lara would look a bit like that! Wouldn't you?! :D

The new Lara resembles more the original Lara in some way. You can clearly see the similarities. I like it. She looks good. :) She looks like the tough woman she is.
These are both renders so they don't reflect what we can see in game. Anyway Underworld Lara looks much better than Anniversary Lara in game and on these renders as well. :tmb:
Um, TRA Lara is like 11 years younger than TRU Lara, TRA Lara in the render looks way younger than TRU Lara. ;)
That's not her ingame anniversary face by the way, just the CGI one used to advertise the battle against T-Rex. Unless maybe on 360...

Yeah. I guess it's all we've got until we get some actual new information/media, though.
Putting it simply:
Annie is hot, but Lara she is not.
Undie is a much more fierce looking lara, the original and the best :tmb:
But this is all speculative like, we haven't seen much yet.

Anniversary Lara looks much better, but not TR-like. The TRU Lara is a real Lara, but she looks really old. I think, that she looks like the TR4-Lara. However I like the new look. Let's hope this won't be another Legend. :o

I don't know about that, Lara's always enjoyed what she did/
I love Lara and would never speak against her but... I kind of wish they would revamp her face altogether and make her more realistic, like the characters in the game Mass Effect for example. Some of the proportions of her face seem a little off to me, like it's too stylized, but maybe that's just me.
I do like her look, but I would much prefer if TRU Lara was much darker. But it is a little early to tell I guess... :)
She looks enough dark in Underworld. What do you want more? She's not some goth or emo. She won't have devil eyes and black hair.

ok, well, the Anniversary Lara seems wayyy too babyish, but the Underworld Lara seems wayyyy too dark, I think Legend was the perfect model, it had balance, I think that they should make her face less oval-ly, and make her eyebrows a lil thicker, and lighten up on the shadowing, and so far from the screen we've seen it's been nothing but dark, I'm missing the colour, I don't see anything exciting or interesting to look at in the screens, its almost gray-scale, but I guess that's just one level, so I shouldn't complain. :ton:

TRU Lara is the sexiest and toughest-looking Lara yet. I love it. TRA Lara always looked a little odd to me; I liked that she was appropriately younger, but the way her eyebrows moved with her emotions looked weird. They got too thin and made her eyes and lips look huge.

The TRA Lara looks a little more realistic (skin etc) but TRU Lara definately better. Tougher and she has more egde. Little more realistic from the face and she's perfect! (Cuz the skin on her face looks a bit like Barbie-doll's).

The new look is spot on imo. less orange than the other render which is a good thing. and i like the frown, it suggests a challenging adventure, which in itself is great fun!
plus her face has been slightly elongated and less rounded which is an improvement. ultimately her features are more subtle and she looks better for it.

TRU's face is a bit paler, which gives her the "you creep me out" factor, and plus, the new lara is uglier :(
