View Full Version : Will Lara be so Grapple Dependent?
I swear in both Legend and Anniversary whenever trouble strikes - Have no fear the grapple is here!
She uses the grapple in nearly every cutscene, some examples are: The train in Russia (I can't spell the name of it :|), The bike in Japan, Dodging the serpant, escaping from her fall with Natla, smushing Natla, obtaining Excaliburs fragment in Russia, Entering the temple in Ghana, moving electronic devices, getting into the tomb in England, wall runs, chasing the boat to Atlantis.
The list could go on forever.
I know in Anniversary she isn't as dependant as she was in Legend but in Underworld do you want to see the grapple return in 'full swing' like Legend or to be rarely used and only to reach high places like Anniversary.
Always nice to see Lara swing, I don't mind grapple all over the place.

I actually don't want to feel like I am Tarzan's wife ..
Grapple here and there is fun occasionally but not all the time.

I wouldn't mind it, just for a day. 8P

Ok missy, I see where this is going :D
;) nahh. Using the grapple all the time would make the game dull.

Yeah, we need to limit it to prevent us from being bored of the grapple.
The only thing that bothers me about the grapple is that its uses are confined to really obvious set-pieces. (ie. A big ass hoop sticking out of the wall) This get boring fast.
If the Grapple had many more uses and was more free-form it would be alot more interesting.

I heard CD sometimes reads these threads so if you wrote some examples well you never know! You could be the saviour of the boring hoop grapple peril that has turned Lara into now Tarzans wife (read above) and not the old a mile a jump lara we all were used to!

I dont mind the grapple its cool, of course i dont want them to go overbored with it. I liked what they did i the obilisk of khamoon where you had to use it and swing past the blades.
You bet your sweet aspercreme she will.

I didnt really care much about the grapple and I didn't really notice it was used so ofeten but I felt that it was spread out well through each level and not used every 5 to 10 mins of a level.
I really hope not. I want diversity of movements & different routes. It's a nice addition.. but I don't the game to force me to use the grapple every freaking second. There still seem to be grapling points and grapple based puzzles (BAH!! >_<) though..
I'd rather have huge jumps back. THEY make the game fun. I miss them so much =/

PLEASE bring more uses for it!!! Maybe a hiding tool for hiding from enemies; maybe hanging upside down like in the beginning of the movie? That would be absolutely amazing
i actually like the grapple!!!! so id like it 2 be used more!!! :D

I don't mind grappling all over the place, since Lara has a lovely swinging posture. [WTF am I saying:confused:]
But I just hope there'll be lotsa new uses for it, like climbing up tall walls and rappelling down.
I love the grapple.
TR9 AKA TR:Grapple
:D
:vlol:
I like the grapple :)
I didn't mind how much they used the grapple in TR:A. That seemed the right kind of balance, although I hope in TR:U the new wallclimbing will affect the gameplay too and mean there's other ways of getting around walls than just the wallrun.
In Legend it drove me nuts for some reason. I seemed to be throwing it about all over the place.
I would love a Youtube Video of Lara swinging around with the Grapple with a Spiderman Theme Song, just to see how it looks. :p

Like she is spiderwoman of course... Although Tarzan's theme fits much more to the game. (use in TRA The great pyramid:D)
I hate the grapple. I wouldn't even want it in the game.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Grapple. I hate the unreality of it and how it makes her a lot more like some sort of superhuman.
Wasn't it Batman that had a grapple?
I would rather just have ropes everywhere and for her to be able to swing over to a wall and be able to run along it from a distance.
But I hate the way her Grapple is her life saving tool as I said in my first post.
It may as well be called
Tomb Raider : Starring Grapple with Lara Croft
I've always wondered, how does she pull junk with it? How does she retrieve it in mid-air? How does she throw it again? How does she even attach it? She doesn't even aim. So unrealistic. Whatever happened to vines. They're more likely to be in a jungle and ruins, instead of "grapple me" points.
So disappointed that TRU will have another Legend/Anniversary type of grapple. Look out Spider-Man. Lara is gonna steal your title.

I agree!
:vlol: I've always wondered how much luck she must have for her grapple to attach to the ring everytime.
I think Lara is a blend between Spiderman/Catwoman. Maybe instead of "I feel stronger now" she can say in Underworld "My raiding senses are tingling" I just hope that she's not dependent on the grapple expecially in the cutscenes. I mean a train is going god knows how many MPH, crashes and it about to collide with a wall when all of a sudden Lara seems to be able to tell the difference between grapple and objects that can't grapple and leaps to safety. If it was an older TR, she'd have just jumped off maybe landing on the floor in slight pain before getting up again (Remembers TR3 Nevada Quad Bike Stunt)

It's magnetic apparently.
The grapple in Anniversary had a hook at the end, but it was still magnetic. I want to manually aim where I'm going to attach the grapple, not press a button and it pulls itself towards its target.
Manual grapple, please!
(Remembers TR3 Nevada Quad Bike Stunt)That was the most unrealistic jump ever, i thought for sure Lara was dead and yet theres no casks or bruises or anything.
Psst, i still want a TR Legend and a TRA Video with Lara swinging that Grapple while listing to a Tarzan Spidernan Theme Song. :p:oIt's magnetic apparently. You would think in Kazakhstan where everything is Metal and Lara would only grab a few things the Game is designed to grab. LAME.
Magnetic :\
Why didn't it attract to Excalibur then? Or her pistols?

You didn't need the grapple to attach to those things.
Yeah but say she's swinging excalibur about, swinging it near her grapple surely it would attract to it and attach to Excalibur. I mean it's right next to her hips so when she swings it would go close to it. They should have just made it a normal grapple and came up with more innovative solutions to be able to get things down in Ghana and move electronic devices in Russia.

I know that, and I hope that's what they're doing in Underworld. We'll just have to wait and see. :)

It's electro-magnetic - so it becomes magnetic only when she switches it on when throwing it. In any case, not all metals are attracted to magnets, you know.
As for Excalibur, it certainly didn't look like it was made of metal. More like stone or crystal. After all, it's not like it functions like a normal sword, so it doesn't need to be metallic.

I hope not.
Scorpion from mortal combat "get over here!" style lol (jk).
Maybe have Lara able to set traps with it. Like in grassy areas, or areas that doesn't obviously show the trap. Or maybe for human enemies, have the ability to perform a move that binds their hands briefly or something. Hmm these would be strange and not sure they would be implemented correctly.
