View Full Version : Female & Male Mercs with same techniques as Lara.

Instead of the same old merc running around stupidly shooting at Lara, wouldn't you like to see some female mercs? Ones with the same techniques as Lara (dodge, jump, grapples) to attack you with. It'd make the mercs seem less the same and make them more difficult considering they have near enough the same gear and techniques as Lara.
But those techniques don't just go for the female mercs but for the male ones too.

What does everyone think?

female mercs doesnt sound very good to me... i dont know wwhy. i am actually surprised I am saying this...

I don't like the idea much either. I've always enjoyed Lara being a one of a kind woman, and with very few other female characters around it helps them stand out more and have a stronger presence. Having a bunch of generic female soldiers just lessens that.

I thought it would be quite a good idea considering there are females in the army, it makes sense as to have female mercs.

I'd like some (not all though) of the human enemies to be able to jump and climb like Lara.

Not to the degree of Assassin's Creed though, because that gets a bit mental if you try and outrun a crowd of soldiers by hiding on a rooftop, only to see them climb up after you and throw you back down onto the streets.

Hell yes, there should be women mercs. I mean, why not? Women are damn good fighters, and a female tough enough to make it in a merc army would be a cool enemy to take down.

How exactly would it decrease Lara's own special brand of awesomeness? She'll still be better, stronger, more athletic and smarter than her enemies, be they male or female. What's her gender got to do with it?

Aren't they supposed to follow her anyways now? I thought I read in a mag the mercs can climb and jump after her. I would love some female thugs as well.

I don't know. Its just not a common role for a woman. I don't mind having them as bosses and stuff, but not mercenaries.

I just hope that the mercs won't get grapples too.

Imagine if Lara's grapple and the merc's grapple get stuck together.

Maybe they should jump on her head and do a bullet time on her too.

Or maybe they should do a rage attack and let lara do her adrendalin dodge.

Imagine:
Lara shoots at merc.
Merc drops gun. Has a wild look in his eyes.
Merc charges.
Lara dodges. Issues a one shot kill.
LOL!!!!!!!!

I'd like to see enemies with the grapple.
Remember Amanda knows her techniques now, watching her via headset etc so her mercs will be loaded with new information on how to get around Lara with adrenaline dodges, grapples, combat and dodging.

Good point. But aren't the magnetic grapples going to repel off each other??? Or worse, STICK TOGETHER.

Lara: "Oh bother, my grapple's stuck..."
BANG BANG BANG BANG
Lara: "Ugnh...."
*dies*
LOL

Not real?

So a woman like Lara doing all the techniques and shooting that she does, is real?

Thats a good game lol, you can through the guards off the rooftops as well :jmp:

I would rather see fewer human enemies in Underworld, they were over used in Legend and spoilt the game, and the controls were no help:mad: Tomb Raider isn't about just shooting bad guys either, there should be more focus on exploring and more animals!

Enemies have been able to clim for a long time, since TR2 goons and the Yeti can clim things lol

I agree.
I'm playing Tomb Raider III at the moment and I believe they had the right combination of enemies and puzzles in that game.

Female thugs would also be good, but female opponents have always striked me us bosses or special characters, never generic fiends. Would be interesting to see them us regular opponents, much like Le Blanc's female thugs in FFX-2.

I think most people would be more concerned about killing women than about killing men. Female enemies in TR are always monsters, aren't they? (Natla, Doppelgänger, Amanda, Sea Serpent...)

I think Legend was supposed to have some female enemies, in white clothes. (You can see them in one of the early trailers.)

Forget about the sea serpent, I just couldn't think about more female enemies. :D

It doesn't make a difference to me whether a merc is male or female, killing a person is always wrong. Of course you can always say that mercs "had it coming" and it's always self-defense. But I think most people would have issues about killing women because there are very few female soldiers in real life, for example. It just doesn't "feel right".

acually i think of it as a nice idea,... both having same gear and movements as lara,... i wouldnt mind either the fact of having female mercs,... as long as they are not cheap made as in soul reaver,...

It's also strange that all female characters that I can think of have nearly the same body shape as Lara...

I'm not into female mercs. And I don't like the idea of the mercs (male or female) having the same skillset as Lara. Make them fit, active and intelligent, capable of doing their own thing.

If they're clones of Lara, she becomes unspecial.

Gender doesn't matter. Just give me interesting, believable and challenging adversaries! Stereotypes suck, regardless of whether they're guys or gals - or animals, for that matter.

The only monsters were Natla, the Sea Hag, Bacon Lara/Doppelganger and Kristina Boaz. We were fighting the Unknown Entity in Bolivia, Amanda just happened to be inside it, and Sophia Leigh was still human.

Why would they??
And how was the sea serpent a female :|
He probally meant the Sea Hag from Chronicles.

Something I really enjoyed about TR4 was those Ninja guys who could do alot of Lara moves. :D

i think its a really good idea!! adds to the realism, id love to see lara in a ***** fight with some femail merc only to throw her off a pillar right into a panthers jaws!! mwahahahaha

No, women should be reserved for the role of super villainess. The mercs are just dumb people rented by some intelligent person (like a super villianess haha) :)

I don't think females mercs would really fit in, but I'm not discriminating or anything...I think female main villians would be better..

For me it has nothing to do with the fact that women are in the army and can be mercs as well. If you have a female merc as skilled as Lara, then she'd be... well, Lara. It would make her less unique. Plus the mercs in Legend (as well as all previous games where they just didn't have much AI lol) strike me as rather dim people who are hired for not being clever enough to question authority.

I just can't picture female mercs having say the monkey conversation between the mercs in Legend, first level. They'd sound very bimbotic.

If we're going to have generic female adversaries I can only picture them as something like a clan of female ninja assassins or as amazonian warriors. As mercs... I don't know, strikes me as not quite right, probably coz I'd expect them to do a better job than be a mercenary hired by Amanda! lol

Half life had assassins (male and female). Very nimble, hard to hit, using hit/run tactics, and could turn invisible. Something like that would be brilliant, in my opinion. They shouldn't replace mercenaries though.
