The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment building at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was 28.

At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body.

The apartment also has nothing to do with Mary-Kate Olsen whatsoever.

I mean with Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears, I wouldn't be surprised if Britney or Amy ended up like this 9Not that I ever want them to, god bless Britney), I did not expect this at all especially, Heath Ledger. He seems like a good guy, doesn't do drugs, he acts really well, stays out of the spotlight but unfortunately this happened, and just at the time where his career is rising if not at the peak.

This is so said. I wasn't planning to see the Dark Knight nor I was interested to, but now I am. I hope there'll be a honourable mention of him somewhere at the beginning or at the end of the film.

Accidental maybe, but I've had a bad case of pneumonia and taking sleeping tablets is the last thing on your mind. Every 1 -2 hours you have to bring up all the fluid in your lungs- or you'll drown in your own fluids. Taking sleeping tablets wouldn't let you do this. Plus the fact it makes you so exhausted you don't need help to nod off.
I'd still give him the benifit of the doubt though.

You know I was just thinking the same thing: what a shocking January. The oldest of my 3 cats died a week and a half ago. I felt so bad I didn't even want to talk about it anywhere on the internet until now. Seeing as I just had to cry about all of this stuff I had to think about her too.

Sometimes life seems so pointless and death seems so random. I mean... If you consider we all have a role to play in life, and Ledger's was obviously to grace us with his talent, and yet he dies so young and so randomly, it's kind of a point against the argument of "we all have a purpose here".

Oh well sorry for the random rambling.. :(

Perhaps, but, that doesn't mean the only thing people should care about (or at least pretend too) is what's gonna happen about the Joker in the next movie.

It's been one day, surely, it's time to let people greive and focus on HEATH'S legacy, rather than what happens to his Batman character?

Well personally the way i feel about him being the Joker is pretty optimistic. Im glad that he got to go out on such a memorable role of an iconic character.

as far as a sequel to The Dark Knight im not worried what will happen to the Joker because they have alot of options for that film series. They will probably end up replacing Ledger with another actor and im subject to blieve this because they did it with Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhal. So if fans of that movie want a joker its just a matter if hes neccesary in a sequel.

I understand what you mean but look at this way.

- Imagine your postman commited suicide.
- People would be shocked at first and maybe a little sad.
- But after a while they're going to wonder what's going to happen to their post.
- See what I mean? (Not the best example but hey)

It's a very sad and dramatic loss to lose Heath and he was very talented but a lot of reports say it was suicide so shouldn't he have been the one thinking of his son, family, friends and fans??

Bottles of the generic forms of Xanax and Valium, both anti-anxiety drugs prescribed in his name, were found in the house, according to law-enforcement sources. The sleeping drug Ambien was also found near his body, sources said. The maid said she last heard the star snoring around noon.

"We are investigating the possibility of an overdose," NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said.

"There were pills within the vicinity of the bed."

edit; i just read this on another forum:

When he was still alive, we can accept it as an acting role...now, with his death, his joker in the trailers seems eternal, ever-lasting, a phantom if you will.

I am starting to feel...well rather creeped by the fact that the person 'alive' in the trailer is dead, and the character has become a character by itself...like the connection between the actor and the character has been cut, and the character is now roaming freely in the film with no control...no control from the actor.

I never thought of it like that..

Poor Heath, he was a great actor, and he seemed like a nice guy. Isn't it funny that his first film role, was playing a clown in "Clowning Around", and his last was playing the most famous clown of all time...

The WBC (Westboro Baptist Church) are a group of fascists posing as Fundemental Christian's spreading the "word of God". Their main argument (and website namesake) is that 'God hates fags', and 'Fag enablers' - meaning gays / anyone who doesn't mind gays, has nothing against them, or lives in a community where gays are accepted by law.

Heath, whilst not gay himself, stared in Brokeback Mountain, and because that film wasn't about how evil gay people are, the WBC will be preaching hatred and screaming about how he's burning in Hell at his funeral where his family and friends will be mourning his passing.

It's not because they're evil - honestly - it's "because they care".

So HMV have all his movies on a stand...no picture of him or anything remotely like a "memorial" but..just a plain stand with all his movies.

A money making ploy?

What do you guys think of that

Is every HMV doing that? Could just be an employee at that particular store, who's a huge Heath Ledger fan, wanting to pay his respects and management said 'ok'.

It would be nice to have a little poster or something like a memorial though.

Have you guys seen the speach Daniel Day Lewis gave at the SAG awards? it was so beautiful. He dedicated his award to Heath.

I read that yesterday, a lovely article from Mr. Nolan - definitely the best tribute to Heath I've read. It made me tear up at the end... :(

Thanks for posting.

Thanks man. Oh, and I just checked WhySoSerious, it has a black ribbon which indicates mourning... sad stuff.

That Black ribbon is very touching, saying as the Joker as a character is far
from solemnity and decorum.

More touching in fact, is the piece by C. Nolan. Very moving :(

Have youb a link to the DD Lewis sppech?

I'm not sure if it's just this HMV..but even if it is a respect thing..surely a photo or something? It just looks like a cheap market ploy =(

Wow. What the hell is it about 27/28 that hurts so much? Heath Ledger's death is incredibly saddening. I didn't know him, but thought he was an incredibly talented man. Jonathan Brandis was my friend. He took his life when he was 27. I was also close to Christopher Pettit and used to hang out with Renfroe was he was younger. I can't stand the media coverage. Everyone speculating why he may or may not have killed himself/had an accidental overdose. IT'S NONE OF OUR BUSINESS!!! I do not believe that just because celebrities are in the public eye that we have a right to know what happens in their life!! Nobody will ever know what was going on in their heads except for THEM. I grew up with Jonathan and as his best friend I don't know what was going on inside his mind the night he took his life and yet I had to read articles and see tv shows on why he killed himself by people who had never met him before!!!! Someone said to me yesterday that they couldn't understand why Heath Ledger would kill himself because his career was awesome, he was rich and sucessful and incredibly good looking. Does that mean that you have to be ugly, uncessful and broke for it to be understandable?? Come on people...Are you ****ing kidding me????? People have lives that are filled with pain and sadness that at times may feel like Hell. Literally. It is THEIR life and we have no right to judge them, but I do feel heartbroken. Heartbroken for his family and friends. His little girl who has to grow up without a Daddy. My Dad died when I was a little girl. It's hard. They are all in a better place now. Maybe not for us, but for them. I guess. I'm gonna have a pretty long conversation with Jonathan when I get to the other side someday. Then and only then will I finally know why he did it because he'll have told me........xoxoxoxoxo, D.

I think everyone should wear a black ribbon, or a black something, when going to see the Dark Knight.

Here's the speech.

I think his speech was slow to start. And I'm glad he wasn't Aragorn.
But what he said about Heath was beyond moving, a touching tribute-
not one to magnetise more media attention either, but a true heart-felt
nod to the brilliance that was Heath Ledger :tmb:

^^ Sorry to hear this.

I wasn't very clear- I mean, pills were strewn all over the floor when they found him.
And they think it's natural causes? Well, we'll have to wait for the full story.

Just seems a bit fishy is all.Could be possible that he had an attack while trying to take one of the pills and the open bottle fell to the floor?

Still can't believe it, though... what a tragedy. :(

NO, No no, the police said that the report saying there were pills strewn on the floor was fabricated or inaccurate. Please don't keep repeating it.

The pills he had were all prescription drugs prescribed to him and inside their bottles.

I completely feel the same away DDL said about the final scene in Brokeback Mountain, in the trailer. I saw that movie again a couple of days ago and that scene was just amazing and heart breaking to watch.. :/

The first time I watched the famous 'Trailer' scene in Brokeback, I actually cried.
And I'm not afraid to say that.

I think the movie'll be twice as hard to watch now given recent events.

Jake Gyllenhaal is struggling to cope after Heath Ledger's death

31 January 2008 - Jake Gyllenhaal is missing Heath Ledger.

'Brokeback Mountain' star Jake Gyllenhaal is finding life without Heath Ledger tough. Jake is godfather to Heath's daughter Matilda.

A friend of Jake has told People.com: "Jake is taking this harder than most people.
"This has had a strong personal effect on (Jake)."

Jake left the set of his latest film when he heard of Heath's death but returned on Thursday for filming.

A source has told People.com: "He was there, but he wasn't with us. It was obviously a major trauma.

"These guys were very close. (Jake) was sitting in the director's chair staring off into space."

Poor Jake.
