well, i've been keeping an eye on the good black box of greatness for the last few weeks.

PS3 is now at an install base of 9.94 million, it has come so close to the 10 million mark, http://www.vgchartz.com/

given how long the 360 has been available (16.98 million) i'd say Sony have done pretty darn well, especially given folks moaning over it's price.

i'd say it's very possible PS3 "could" have a very good 2008, and possibly take 2nd place late 2008 early 2009 (probably 2009 to be honest) :jmp:

i will say though the PS3 will NEVER conquer the US regardless of it's price IMO, the Americans simply aren't interested in PS3 for this generation and are "sticking with their own", tit for tat kinda situation really,the Japanese don't want Xbox so they don't want PS3 :vlol: (not a bash btw,the install base pretty much proves it region by region)

people say the PS3 has been a dramatic failure,they fail to notice Microsoft had a full year unchallenged which has definitely helped it's cause plus devs had a head start. given it's launch price PS3 has done surprisingly well (it's not even 1 year old in UK yet)

i will admit Sony need to do something to crack the American market,and i seriously doubt even a price cut would help...it needs MORE exclusives from 3rd parties, it needs appealing 3rd party NON ported games, devs need to put the effort in and do separate builds of multiplat titles :(

failing that Sony should pull out of the industry hardware wise and licence it's first party franchises to Nintendo and Mac :jmp:

don't turn this into a fanboy way btw, ideas on how to crack the US are welcome :D

I've read the 10mln mark news. It's quite impressive, cause it's not even a year old over here as well.

I can't believe I don't even have it a year, it seems much longer. I'm happy I bought it at launch.. it has given me many great hours of game playing.. and even in it's first year it has brought me games I won't ever forget.

The strongest selling point right now is the blu ray player for the PS3. With Time-Warner joining the Blu Ray group there is a strong incentive to buy the PS3 purely as a Blu Ray movie player since it is the cheapest one out there. In the short run this is a very good thing for Sony since it builds the user base for the PS3. Sony also has some big games coming out that should be very attractive. MSG4 and the next Final Fantasy edition (I forget which number it is). These may help it to increase NA sales.

In the long run, we should soon begin to see dedicated Blu-ray players that will be competitive to/cheaper then the PS3 in costs and this will reduce the attractiveness of the PS3 and it will have to compete more as a video gaming console then as a movie player. MS has also made only one relatively small cut in costs in the last two years whereas Sony has made some more drastic changes. If Ms makes a larger cut in cost, as many expect, it will be hard for Sony to match it and then it will be interesting to see what happens.

If SOny wants to crack the US they have to release more good "Casual" Games. By that I mean they need more shooters, button mashers and shooters. Yes I did say shooters twice.

I know far too many people who dont give a monkeys about the kind of games released on the PS3. They are only interested in Shooters. Which the 360 has a plentiful supply of. The PS3 however is lagging in that department, and is more for dedicated gamers who want more than just to shoot things.

Im not bashing the 360 at all, its just that im stating what I have observed.

I see pretty the same mix of games. And with games such as Lost Odyssey also on the XBox the old canard of XBox360 is only for shooters is really not true.

Im sure this year will be better for them too, since the 360 had its time now, with halo 3 and all, while the noone can beat the wii..

That's why I buy a ps3 because of the variety of games it has. I don't like to play just shooters. Wow Wii is owning go Wii :D

When comparing ps3 and 360, last year was 360's year and they didn't exactly "run away" with 2nd place. The Ps3 is right behind them. The numbers are there. Right now I still don't see the Need for Blue Ray. But I own a ps3 mainly because of the longevity it's going to give me gaming wise and movie wise. Blue ray is slowly catching on like the OP has proven. I've even read somewhere that a big porn company will be exclusively Blu Ray(as humorous as that may be, its still a fact that porn brings in lots of money lol). There is even rumors that Microsoft may include some sort of Blu Ray port in the 360 in the future. With many big name dev's going independent that were previously exclusive to Microsoft, their future games can easily be on both 360 AND the ps3 now. (and possible ports for some of the older ones to the PS3 if they can). So as you've said "PS3....nearly there". Slowly but surely :).

The way I see it the wii hasand will continue tom have the lead. As for second place I'm not sure :confused:. like you said the ps3 needs to get more good exclusive games in order to take second, The 360 has to do the same.

Theres nothing that says it isn't Heavenly Sword 2, for all we know HS2 could be set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world, nothing says the story has to remain in one timeline... Look at Assassins Creed, we all know that the sequel won't take place in the Crusades
