No, get the last floor tile next to the wall, split it and raise it up to the top. But, yes, you need to do this with stacked rooms to make the textures fairly un-strecthed.

You can only import the WHOLE object texture set with StrPix... ;) Use WadMerger

I'm a bit confused. In my level, Lara triggers a flyby when she steps on a certain square. I only want it to happen once, but if Lara's still standing on the square, the flyby goes again. I have One Shot enabled so surely it shouldnt do this? Also is there a way to make the flyby only happen once as whenever Lara goes back to the square, she activates it. I'm sorry if this sounds quite n00bish, but I find it quite annoying. Thanks.

You're sure you have one shot enabled? I think there's a number button (lol I don't know the name) that you can press and the FlyBy will only play once. I'd look it up in the manuel for you but I'm not on my home computer right now so I can't.

In the flyby turn OFF button 2.
One Shot in the trigger should stop it from working every time Lara steps on the trigger. If the flyby is looping that might be causing it.
Also, don't use Flyby Trigger, that is title levels only. And don't use Pad trigger as that might make it repeat while Lara is on the trigger. Just use a normal trigger.

I believe the limit for sunbulbs is affected by the amount of rooms, textures and objects in one level. If the level starts crashing, you've gone too far!

A sunbulb is a light. It lights up an entire room and you can only have one per room. Best of all, it gives the Lara model a silky smooth 3d look. The manual tells you all of this - seriously, it's the best place for you to start.

The editor has a fit, but in game there are no problems. The error messages should be removed in a future version of NGLE I think.

Select the collision radiobutton at the left of StrPix (not shown in pic below) and press automatic bound. Then select the visibility button and press automatic bound.

Toggle Opacity lets you put a texture on a door. But Lara can't pass through the door. Toggle Opacity 2 lets Lara pass through the door.

You have to place the anims in your Lara object via WADMerger. Has nothing to do with TREP. ;)

Quick question:

Can sinks be made vertically?
Like adding a Pad trigger to a vertical water tunnel, and a sink somewhere in the middle, so when you reach the bottom of the tunnel it propels you back up....

If not then I will have to use Toggle Opacity, but whenever I use Tbuilder to imput new textures (cage-like ones would fit) to my tga, the colours and textures in-game all turn upside down :(

I prefer using the sink

Do you want an entirely new model or an already existing TR model? Because Pierre, Larson and Kurtis have been made for use with the Level editor. :) You can find them at Trsearch. ;)

i raised the floor type of this object to 3 steps, which is equivelant in its height, but however, the left side of this object i can't stand on. i can stand on the right side, though :S

Well you need to raise the right and left of the object aswell, not just the middle when you are in object edit.

Edit object only works for a single sector. If the object is bigger than that, parts of it are still not climbable.

1-Put "Horizon= ENABLED" in the script
2-Download (or create) a horizon and put it in your wad using WADmerger...

I have another question about horizons:

Why is my horizon visible indoors?
I have a huge cave, and in distant portals (mostly vertical) the horizon shows instead of the next room

Gonsaw - your horizon is visible due to the drawing distance limitation of the TR4 engine. To solve this, you can use TREP, which makes the drawing distance a lot further. That screen looks great, by the way! :D

I didn't light it yet :p (except for the cave at the left)...

But I think distance limitation has nothing to do with it:
I put the distance in TREP of 20000, and the horizon is visible in the portal. I put it 40000, still visible in the same portal. Then 60000 (my current) and the horizons are visible in the same portals....
Plus you can see that in the cave at the left, just where at the entrance of the tunnel the horizon shows, is much further than the horizon at the bottom, or at the right....

Oh, and if you manage to see a secret passage in the bottom-left of the screen, don't tell anyone ;)

EDIT:Plus, the horizon is only visible from certain angles (if you see the cave in a certain angle, no horizon is visible...)

EDIT2:YOu may also see a zipline, but I can't get it to work :(

I meant the geometry and the way the room looks rather than the lighting. It's so difficult to get such amazing caves in the LE - takes ages. But anyway - if the draw distance limit isn't the problem, perhaps the horizon is. Or the only other thing it could be is the position of the map in level editor. If it's positioned in the bottom right-hand corner on the 2D map, sometimes it causes problems. Other than that, I'm not sure.

I downloaded the horizon from TRengine, I doubt it is flawed, if not someone would review it like that....
And I am afraid I can't position my level anywhere, cause my level takes ALL the distance from left to right, and top (not the bottom), it is a huge cave in the end....
But that part of the level is in the centre of the 2d map, a little to the right...

Oh I doubt it's flawed, but sometimes the shape of the horizon has an effect. I don't know - I'm not a horizon expert.

Matrix: with TREP or NGLE? Different methods for each.

That's a good idea! Reminds me of Doctor Who! Ah, good old British plot holes covered up with technobabble and nonsense . . .

Must be quite frustrating to get that far and have such a damning problem though. I'd try a couple of other horizons, try and see where the problem is if I were you. I've been doing something similar all day (been making objects - such a long process right now. When I get better at it though . . .)

I have posted a couple of threads before on issues I have had before with vehicle sounds, but nobody seems to know whats going on! Maybe somebody on this thread could help? Anyway, I've added the quadbike to my level, and ticked the appropriate "Bike_" sounds in Wadmerger's Sound manager. However when I play the level the bike sounds work but they are muffled and juddering...is this a known issue? Can anybody help?

This also happens with the Jeep Sounds.

Please Help! :)

Beside the draw distance, as some others have already pointed out, this can also happen even if the draw distance is large enough.
To fix this problem, use toggle-opacity2 on all the doors (portals) and texture them with the black transparancy texture.

I had this problem with some of my HM levels where suddenly a black horizon colour would appear. I fixed it by doing the above.
So it might work for you also. ;)

But now my game crashes.....

I have done nothing abnormal in TREP, and didn't add anything to the WAD...
Never changed the script, but the game crashes at loading time....

The only thing I did was make a boss room, and connect it (and texture), and I got to 100 rooms... (apart from the toggle opacity 2 bit you suggested, which took me a long time as I have like 20 rooms in there :p )
I plan to make 2 more rooms and voila, level finished, but I don't think the level should crash only with 100 levels, I mean, you could even make 200 rooms without the level crashing...

Thanks Titak, I am using the Toggle Opacity Portals and they work great! I was so worried about the draw distance that I made my room smaller, but it woks great now! :hug:

Use the "E" key to raise a line and the "D" key to lower it but you can only raise one line on each block. Because of that limitation I would have made that room from two stacked rooms.

First click the door and place it's trigger under the lever, make shure your trigger type is "trigger"

Then click the lever and place the trigger at the same place: under the lever.

Now press the text next to the purple\pink and in the trigger type select switch

Another problem I have with animations and flyby cameras:
I am making a cutscene that introduces a boss, so when lara steps on a trigger, she starts a flipeffect that makes her play an animation (the walk animation).She also triggers the flyby, which is in the style of Tomb of Seth (something moving pointing at lara), but I want it to cutcam from one camera to the other (the first cameras reflect the boss, and the camera it is supposed to cut to shows the boss itself). However, when I use cutcam, in-game the cameraa doesn't jump to the other one (the one showing the boss), and as the other camera triggers the audio, torches, and boss itself I don't know what to do...

And th e problem with animations is that laras walking animation doesn't stop, not even after she stepps off the trigger, and is only affectable by a state change (like when she crashes into a wall, or into a slope, etc...). I try making the walking animation go to the "standing animation" (Anim 103, which I copied to another slot), but then lara doesn't move when she steppes on the trigger, and doesn't move after the cutscene is over (it seems like the animations don't stop, is there a way to fix this?)

You aren't listening to me. You need to make an animation where Lara moves forward and then comes to a hault. All in one anim. You're just using the default walking animation, right? But now your messing with State IDs and such, assigning speed, there's no need for that! I'll make a tutorial or something, just give me a while.

The anim is pretty much complete, God Horus. I would like to change a few more things to make it look more TRLish, but I'll send you the current one.

3 different anims? Why don't I just make the animations for you? I infact have already created something very similar. What you're doing doesn't sound difficult. Send me a PM with the details of what you want Lara to do if you'd like me to do the anims.

IT could not be difficult, cause in the end it is just copying the walking animation frame's into the animation....

YEs, I can't seem to understand this completely...
If you don't assign speed to the animation, it won't move forward, but if you assign it, then the whole animation is going to go forward..
Then how do you make lara stop in that same animation, if the animation cointinues moving?
I think the thing is to make the animation that moves forward change to th animation that goes still, but I don't know how to make this (I tried using race timer), and I don't know how to make the "still" animation not repeating itself, aka lara standing still for the rest of her life....

It think it is in the script...

In the part that says: Puzzle-Name-$0000, $6543, $000 etc...

The things after the "$" indicate how the item looks in the inventory I believe...
There is a tutorial somewhere of how to know the coordinates (rotation, place in inventory, etc...)

Not exactly... I may use a total of 1 or 2 TRA textures, but they will be severely edited because I want to show relation, but put a completely original spin on what we know as Atlantis in the Tomb Raider series. Also, the segment I'm speaking of is not Atlantis itself. There will be quite a bit of play before your character gets to the other realms of Atlantis.

Also, I must mention that it's based after Legend and ties in directly with AOD. I want it to be all it can be. My target release time is two years from now because I have a lot to learn about TRLE and NGLE. Also, I'm a fan of the classics, so most references will refer to the original, not TRA. :)

Sorry if I'm bumping this thread but I was wondering if someone could help me? I downloaded TRLE etc today and played Himilayan Mysteries, which was awesome but then I saw a level called Tomb Raider: Revised. It looked really good so I downloaded it but once I did it was a little different from the HM. I clicked TR4 in the corner and it came up with Error: Do not send or Send etc etc etc.
So I clicked on Audio and saw some files called Start me. Etc I assumed I needed to move them before TR:R would work. Can someone tell me what to do with these files please? Sorry I'm such a burden.

From what I know or you:
a)Change the volume of the sound in a sound editor (Audacity, etc...)
b)You change the volume in the sound.txt (I think that is where the texture sounds are kept too)....
After the V you put the volume number....
I don't remember much of it, mainly because I don't have the patience of doing the DOS stuff in order to add a new "character" for sounds to be played in my level (like "#g" or "#Tu", etc...)

Actually just delete VOL and the number after it for full volume. Don't use the single letter V as this causes tomb4 to generate a random volume. The same goes for the single letter P, it causes a random pitch modification.
You can also turn up the volume of your sound effects in the options screen of tomb4 :)
Or turn up the volume on your speakers :ton:

Really nice structure for a start. As I read that this will be a training level, I'll give you a friendly advise :) : make more obstacles, so that the player learns well the abilities of the character.

Fog Bulbs and bump mapping.

Fog Bulbs are used to create volume in a level that can resemble smog or something. It is set by going to "effect>>>fog bulb" and then placing in the level. The, you can edit it like a normal lightbulb by pressing "show light meshes" and then using the controls to control the fading and strength of the bulb. Beware though it is rather a strong effect so have really really small fog bulbs and very weak ones are the ones that look the best IMO.

To change the color of the bulb you need set "Flipeffect 28" and then as the timer value check out the manual :

Bump-mapping


Bumpmapping is used to create a texture more 3d looking. Tr4 cannot do accurate bump maps so it has to be set to either level 1 or level 2; level 1 being weaker then 2.

to set Bump-mapping go to "texture sounds" in ngle or winroomedit and then selecting your bump level and then assigning it to a texture. It also needs to have "Bump Mapping" ticked on in the in-game setup. :D

Since 1 month I've been trying to figure this out cutscene/animation problem, but I still can't :(

It isn't the end of the world though, seeing as I can build my other levels while I try to fix this problem (and finishing building the cave one)...
But sooner or later I will have to make all the cutscenes from my entire series (as well as some other animation tricks, etc)...

So, nobody figured out the cutscene problem yet (the one I made the thread of)?
I still don't know if it the problem is with TREP or the animations, or the cameras (seeing as I can't cutcam from one camera to the other)..


On another note....Why does strpix texture the objects oddly?
Some parts of it can be textured and other can't, unless I texture them from certain angle or after some time....
I don't know if it is strpix or my PC's memory, but it's frustrating....

It's not a static, just some parts are "texturable" and others not, dunno why.
I want to texture a trapdoor, but one side of it is textured perfectly, while the other side only has 3 tiles texturables?


My level is already finished (except from one big room I am making now), so I want to make it "fully playable" by now, with cutscenes and all, so then my next levels are made more easily (knowing how to make cutscenes, levels and such)...

And my cutscenes won't suck (I hope so), but lara doesn't stop the animation after the cutscene and continues walking :(
Plus my cameras dont trigger anything (even if they have 14 checked), because I can't cutcam to them...
So basicly, my cutscene is ****ed up

I will start doing my title flyby level for now at least...

okay, i'm using ngle, and i downloaded some new water textures (now its 128x128) but i can't seem to have a v50 animating range... it doesn't work for me. it originally consisted of 16 textures (if that matters) and it didn't work; now it has 8 textures (again, if that matters at all) but it still doesn't work. can anyone help please? :)

Select the anim that should be replaced. (It's prolly written in the readme or the .trw file itself.)

Well, as much as i understood from this explanation and from what i know it's all about having the objects named by the one from the original wad. E.g. Core have named the enemy SCORPION and if you want to put a different enemy with a different name in the SCORPION slot you wouldn't be able. I don't want to complecate you much, but shortly it has nothing to do with the static objects. In my condition I don't play with replacing objects with WADMerger i just replace the objects in strpix. That's the easiest way for me. :D

To add different audio tracks you have to have it in wav format or you want hear it in game.Once you have done that rename to 000,001 or whatever you want but do not rename it any thing over 111 or it won't play:)

UUUUH It didn't work. What I did, was took an mp3 file named tra_peru_explorers_theme.mp3 and renamed it 095.wav. Is that what Im supposed to do?? Because if it is, then my level editor is just screwed up...

But did you covert the mp3 file to wav format.It won't work if you just rename it to wav.:)

Download the madplay tool from skribblerz.It's so easy to use just click on the start me button and then it converts,but make sure your mp3 file is in the same folder:)

Yes, I did what you said, but the file. It tries to play in the game, but it doesn't. Like I'm playing the track right were lara starts out, and it plays a bit of the main theme over and over!:hea:

Hmmmm.. did it convert into wav fully,sounds like it is corrupted or something,i never had this problem:confused:

When I try t play it by itself (Window's Media Player) it doesn't play. Maybe that has something to do with it...?

Thats got to be it.Try downloading a better one then rename to e.g 095.mp3 then press the start me,makesure it changes from mp3 to wav,and then trigger it and try it out.

Hi, :wve: Sorry, i didn't see your post until now. :o Yes, i've just started something. :) It'll feature Larson! (TRA Larson in the end). :)

See those black stripes? How can i get rid of them? I have extended the Tomb4's size with TREP.

And this is just a trial screen to show you this.

Edit: Those stripes also occur when pressing "P" or the Inventory button. :(

The stripes in inventory / paused mode happen when you have your screen set at 32 bit colour depth.
Either set your screen to work at 16 bit colour or if you want you can fix the bug somewhere in trep/ draco patches.

The other black lines may have to do with antialiasing, or was it "anisotropic filtering" or something like that too advanced for old TR4 engine. Turn it off in your display options, the general oness for your computer, not in TR Setup.
E.g. I do a click on this nvidia settings thing in the system tray to access these settings.

So it most probably is just a mistake with displaying the game correctly on your computer and nothing wrong with your level.

I would like to know if it is possible using 3D Studio Max to speed up animations if the FrameRate is 1? :o I cannot seem to do this with WADMerger and had to resort to deleting hundreds of frames from long animations. :p

I just found out what was wrong! :D I had the Nvidia settings too best performance and not the "Let the 3D program decide" option. :D Silly me!" :o


And now i have another question. :o I'm making a Nevada desert a like level, it will not be a remake or anything. But i can't find any tutorials on how to make a good outside area. :o Can someone direct me or try to explain how to? :)

No. The timing is still done in tomb4.
You can double the speed by deleting every other frame. Or delete every third or fourth frame, etc.

Ah, thanks very much for your answer. :) I have used this method but it is extremely labourous to do with Animations that have hundreds of frames. Thanks, aktrekker! :D

Sorry there isn't a better answer. It would probably be easier if you had something like a filmstrip of the frames and you could just click and delete.

Well, from these games which you wrote I've only played, 'The tresure of the lost spanish galleon' and 'I know what you did' the game ran smoothly, so I think it's not supposed the screen to stutter.

It could have to do with how big the outside area is. There is a limit to how far you can see, then things start to flash out of sight. The limit is about 18 squares, but you can change the limit with TREP.

with creating a new animating object,

I've created my object in Meta, its a cog and now i want to animate it

I first tried importing it into a static slot using stripx, then opening WADmerger and trying to copy it while holding shift, into an Animating slot but only static slots appeared

This time i imported a random animating object into stripx and then replaced that one with my custom one using the import feature
but when i open it with animation editor, it has the animations of the other object and also the properties, for instance when i tell it to calculate collision it acts as if the object is there as well and add collision around something that isn't there,

So, does anyone know how to add a new, empty animating slot into my WAD and then add my custom mesh into that?

I created the polished floor thread. That was a very bad tutorial and some of the stuff in there was wrong, I'll send you a better tut later.

How about a colour mixing puzzle or something? You see a block of colour above a door, and 5 levers with a different colour above each one. You then have to pull two of the levers marked with the two colours that mix together to create the colour above the door.

Then said door shall open. :D

Just a random idea. :p

I have a fun puzzle which I set up, but it still has some issues. There is a button which opens a door, but underneath the button is a pressure plate. The pressure plate activates a ghost, which chases you and takes your health away. If you run into the new room without destroying the ghost, Lara dies. So you need to jump into the water and swim far enough, then hit a switch which converts the water to lava :D I just set up a flip map then for the new room to be lava, and for there to be no ghost.

I've kinda sorted out my other problem, i just had to improvise a bit

anyway, i now have another problem, i need to open two doors and trigger a flipmap at the same time using cameras,
is this at all possible, as, from what i am aware, only one heavy trigger can be placed on one square at any given time
which means that i cannot trigger all three events from the same square and if i trigger them separate then it looks stupid as the doors open one by one and then the water flows out a few seconds later

so is there any way around this?
