im having trouble starting tomb raider 1, i am using dgvoodoo and vdmsound, i click on the shortcut and the game goes fullscreen and it just stays black, no sound or picture
please help:)

yes i did everything, except that installer was already included in my game, so i didnt download it separately

The TRAI can't be included in legal TR copy :mis: Mind we don't support piracy here. So the report is necessary...

um just another question, am i supposed to run diagnose.exe while running the game or when the game is not running?
The game does not need to be running. What version of the installer was included with the game? The TRAI is not the normal installer you get with the game, so you must forgive us for wondering how it could have been included, did they also supply the VDMsound.
no, the installer said i needed to download the vdmsound separately, and if i wanted glidos also separately, and dgvoodoo was included.
the installer version is 1.05 (build 1.0.5.48), it also says dgvoodoo glide wrapper v1.31 by dege

hey i just noticed something, in the operating system code up there it says: SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330 T3
is I5 actually irq5? or? because in the game it says DeviceIRQ = 7
not sure if thats it but anyway
EDIT: nah thats not it, i tried irq5 but same thing happened
also, about unfinished bussines, i think the guide says i need to install the game and then the aditional levels, and my installer says i need to install the levels first and then the game, so im not sure which is it?
1. Reinstall DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en). Reboot.
2. Uninstall both TR1 and UB. Uninstall VDMSound.
3. Run TRRC (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/trrc.exe).
4. Reboot.
5. Install TR using THIS GUIDE (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html) and programs given in that guide. Follow the guide in letter, thus it says "install VDMSound, then reboot" - you need to act exactly that way.
BTW, your diagnostic report is not full, repost it (paste all the text).

yeah i went to tomb raider folder, and ran tomb.exe with vdm sound, then it asked me if i wanted default settings or some alternative, i went with default, and i got the black screen again.
is it possible to somehow run it in window mode and not fullscreen? maybe that way it will work

OK Let's check those things:
1. Go to C:\Tombraid folder. There must be tomb.vlp file, right click it and select Properties, go to VDMSound tab and untick "Enable basic VESA support option". Press OK button.
2. Make a desctop shortcut to that tomb.vlp file or copy Tomb.vlp to the desktop.
3. Go to C:\tombraid folder. Run DgVoodooSetup.exe. Select DOS platform. On Global tab tick "Work in VDD mode". On Glide tab make the following settings:

and my dgvoodoo setup is a bit different, its 1.40, so there is no emulate w buffering option
and on the global page, should i tick or untick vdd mode? you said tick but on the pic its unticked so im not sure :)
1. You need to create VLP config for TR1. I see you completely ignored all my previous instructions about uninstalling TR1 and UB and reinstalling all from scratch, starting with TR1. TR1 must be installed first, then UB. Then you'll have all necessary files.
Delete all, uninstall VDMSound, THEN REBOOT. Then install VDMSound, REBOOT. Then install TR1 via TRAI EXACTLY like described HERE (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html). I suppose you don't like to configure all manually, so follow the instructions. Trouble yourself to read attentievly first, only then act.
2. The picture refers to only Glide tab. I was supposed to write clearly. Never mind you have 1.40+ - you need VDD mode active, Glide tab like on the picture.

also, when the screen is black and i go ctrl+alt+delete, it doesnt say its not responding, it says the program is running

i downloaded and installed glidos, then installed trandubforglidos.exe, and it works now, cutscenes and everything :) but ive got that huge glidos logo, so id prefer to get it working with dgvoodoo :)

Nope, you'll get TR1 and TR1 UB both. Just follow the installation procedure in TRAI (choose Unfinished Business when prompted).
hm, in the trai i have with the cd it says i need to download the pack, and the new trai which i used later, the one i downloaded says that the files needed are already in the installer?

THESE ARE 2 DIFFERENT GAMES - therefore need to be run ceparately. To run TR1 you use tomb.exe, to run UB you use tombub.exe. You can use any version of TRAI you like.
Return to Egypt is the first level of TR1:UB (no starting FMV) - when you run tombub.exe (or shortcut to it).
Caves is the first level of TR1 (has FMV) - when you run tomb.exe (or shortcut to it).
aah ok i get it, i thought they were just additional levels for the game, that come at the end of original tr. ok got it now. so the shortcut i get on my desktop when i install gold is tombub then, and i need to make the other one manually
Yup. You can always check the shortcut by right clicking it, selecting Properties and looking what file it is linking to :)
i think i managed to do it, just to double check here, so there arent any surprises :)
i went to tomb.exe, and ran it with vdmsound, then it asked me to configure it, and i could choose default or custom, i went to custom and it asked me if i wanted to use an existing config, and i chose tombub.vd, is that ok? because there isnt any tomb.vlp. can i use the tombub vdmsound config for tomb.exe? or do i need to make some changes? for now, it seems to be working, and it made a vlp shortcut on the desktop
You can... Just remember to check resulting tomb.vlp file for correct path to tomb.exe (not tombub.exe) :)
