View Full Version : The mummy/skeleton of The Caves and Tomb Of Qualopec
Okay... It's been years since I have played this game. Been wanting to get my hands on it for a long time, too. But something that always stands out in my mind, from all those years ago from playing this game, back when I was 8-11 years old, is the mummy looking skeleton object in The Caves and the Tomb Of Qualopec. Now most of you probably think I'm crazy, but I get such a strange, odd, spooky/comforting feeling when I try to remember that image. I haven't seen the thing in so long though, but I remember it was placed in those two levels. Does anyone even know what I'm talking about? I've looked for images of it on google, but no luck. Does anyone else get the creepies outta this thing?
Are you talking about this?

Pretty creepy. :D
Yes, that's the one...
......
I don't know what it is about that thing. But I could stare at it for hours. No exaggeration.
I need to get that for my avatar.
l am sure we all know what you are talking about Levlan, he really stood out that one, l remember when l first played Tomb Raider 1 watching him from above, convinced he was going to pounce on Lara as soon as she went down there because he certainly moved around as she moved. By the time l next saw one l was not so spooked, although it was still a bit of a shock seeing him near the switch. l was very disappointed he did not get such a staring role in TRA, especially knowing Core had not forgotten him when they did their remake.

Somebody actually found the original it was based on as well.

Aye! When I received Anniversary this was actually the biggest thing I was looking fore ward to! :vlol:
Hehe, oh well. At least I got my T-Rex and Abomination. :jmp:
Yeah, I totally forgot that when you look down on it and move the camera, the thing moves with it.
This moving effect is a result of the skeleton being a 2D graphic. It has no backside, so the game will always show you the front view regardless of where you stand. :D

Yes well back then l did not know that, and this had been the first object seen that had behaved in such an insidious way.
If Levlan wants him as an avatar here are a few possibilities.

This old thread has some useful info, especially posts #32 & #37. I searched a bit under [Inca mummies] and [Peruvian mummies], but didn't find the original image.

Yeah, and what I saw while researching a little bit freaked me out even more...

Alright, now to do that tedious emailing stuff. :p
It's a hard choice.. The light or darker one? :vlol:

There are three now, took a while to do them, l think the white one looks better.
Thanks. :D
I'm going with the middle one. :tmb:
I wonder why I'm so fascinated by this image. :cln:
Yay! I finally got it for my avatar! Thanks for finding the image for me. :)
(Sorry for the double postage.) :o
Thanks again aussie. :)
Haha, that was the same thing that scared me as a kid! I couldn't understand why it seemed like it was moving and stared me all the time. I had the feeling it could jump on me any second. Well later on I realized it's a sprite image but it scared me nevertheless.
And even today, I never go near that thing in Caves. Creeps me out. :D

But that's the thing. It was creepy 'n all to me. But when I was a kid, I would stare at that thing for an unusually long amount of time. :mis:

Haha, I did the same. I think I stood for a while and watched how it moved with Lara. The ropes around it always make me think of maggots or worms O.O It's a shame it was never remade in 3D.

Yeah, stupid CD didn't see it or what?

They can't have played the original that thoroughly if they didn't see it, so I guess they just opted not to include it. They removed a lot of the little qualities that made TR1 special and actually I was really mad that TRA didn't let us actually go and collect the first Scion piece by ourselves. I used to love running back and forth past the standing mummy and have him watch you x3
Yep. Those were the days. :)
That skeleton used to creep me out when I was a kid :vlol:
Hahaha, yeah, I remember it, funny...:vlol:
It is Silverlok's version of "it", you might be interested :):
