awesome news! *refering to the relaunch of the hub* :jmp: :tmb:
that give´s me another idea for a competition:
let´s celebrate the reopening of the Hub!!
myths of modding :tmb:
- a competion that is first presented on the new Hub
- in april (till end of april)
- subject should be related to the Hub, dedicated to the avantgarde of modding, special features, dedicated to all the beloved modders, to Lara, to our modding heros (tansy, Elen, Baby Jane... ), to all those fantastic ideas that gave us the inspirations to carry on...
what do you think? :jmp:
select one modding that is already on the Hub -- and get inspired -- I think you can do
add ons = additional stuff for the modd you´ve chosen, revisited modds, inspired by any modd, another version, do a suitable level modd for one special modd, or you can do
additional characters that fit to the modd you´ve selected
I think this one should be for TRL again (1. was Legend, 2. was TR:A+TRL, and the 3. should be a classic one again)

Not a bad idea, Zipper. :tmb: I have a few extra suggestions: First of all, why not have the competition for both TRA & TRL again? Part of the fun in this competition would be remaking mods originally for TRL for TRA (I don't mean literally "remaking", as in just copying the textures of the old mod). Second, shouldn't there be some rule that you can't get inspired by your own mod? Third, how about tying this competition in some way to this idea (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?p=2547368#post2547368)? Obviously, CD & Eidos won't be sponsoring it, but we could still design outfits based on what we would like Lara to wear in TRU. And finally, how about starting a suggestions thread so that all the suggestions are in one place? :)

Mytly´s point of refering to another artist´s work was intended.

i'm am so confused :confused: someone explain the idea in easy to understand format! my brain is mashed so things need to be simple, very simple!
you are asked to refer to one of the modds that are on the hub ... and to design soemthing special for that modding e.g.:
you choose:
spiderman by Lee

now you´re into the spiderman story! and now you can do
additional costumes for spiderwoman
or gear
or create some oponents for her to fight against according to the movie/comic

-- damn my first idea´s spoiled now :vlol: etc...

if you know which costume you´ll be working on, post the thumbnail from the HuB - [like I did with spiderman] - in the competition thread to come and don´t tell anything about what you´re up to! don´t spoil in advance!
and keep your time - it´ll be enough time for modding!

that´s a good point!
SOME EXPLANATION:
the answer - and perhaps main idea of this comp is to load 2 modds at a time in texmod!
e.g.: if you´d like to use a face modd on an existing modd, you might have some difficulties to make the new face dominant/replacing the old one -> therefore: choose the existing one first and add the new modd that replaces the replaced textures in line :tmb:
(btw.: you can choose more than 2 :))

In any case, from what I understood, we're not supposed to use the same textures as the original mod from the Hub - rather, we use the basic look/idea of the mod to create something similar of our own. For example, this is an outfit by Tansy called Brown Snake:

Some of the things we can do based on this are:
1. Create a more elaborate version of the same outfit.
2. Use similar "snakey" textures for a different type of outfit altogether.
3. Create an outfit inspired by the name of this outfit: that is, one which looks like a brown snake (a real one), though it may or may not look like Tansy's outfit at all.
4. Maybe even a level mod with snake-skin textures on the wall?
These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I am sure there are plenty of other possibilities.

what I wanted to say that it´s possible to do an extended modd without touching the org modd -- you can also combine the orginal modd to the extensions you´ve got in mind :D - you don´t have to

This competition sounds like a great idea :D I'm interested in joining, but I'll have to see if I can find Legend for PC somewhere first (I'm thinking of a level mod based upon the Sin City outfit :D).

Well, there are already several mods based upon Core Design outfits if I remember correctly. Why not choose one of them and then mod a level around it? :D

I think Mytly' suggestions are very wise and I keep saying they must be well separated when setting the rules. I just don't agree completely with the one referring to the same textures being also used on a dress,when the mod is already inspired on a dress. I'm afraid some un-original copies would arise.
Another question is: and if the member is taking inspiration from a modd level?
Let's take for example Egypt by Tampi: would the member create another modded level using Tampi's textures? Create another Egyptian textures? Or simply create another Egypt concept just for the modd Cleopatra :D?
I think the main idea should be clearly distinguish between inspired by and copied from .
Celebrating one's work is quoting it and work from it :)!

As Pipolinne just pointed out, this is a suggestions thread, so we are still throwing some ideas around. However, the basic idea of this competition is this:
To create an outfit/level mod inspired by an already existing outfit/level mod on the Hub. Which one you choose to be inspired by is up to you. You can choose to be inspired by, say, an outfit for Legend and create an outfit of your own based on the concept of that outfit. (For a more elaborate explanation, see this (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showpost.php?p=2550697&postcount=37) post). The same applies to level mods. You can even have crossovers - i.e., create a level inspired by an existing outfit, or vice versa. The same applies Anniversary. And of course, crossovers from Legend to Anniversary and vice versa are fine too - e.g., creating and outfit/level for Anniversary based on a mod for Legend.
Are things a bit more clear now?

The goal of such a discussion is not to provoke chaos,but to avoid previous situations,when members complained objectives and rules weren't clear enough.

i think the only problem with the idea going around is, it is possible that some people might feel that plagiarism. i think not so long ago a specific forum member was accused of this, while doing something very similar to whats being suggested. it was around the time people stopped using and suppling Tomb Ripper/DDS files. i don't know if this was the cause of the accusement or whether it was just a coincidence. there is only a slight chance it might happen, and there was some harsh words said.
I am NOT naming anyone!! so don't ask
Littlepenguin, I think I know what you mean. But that's pretty much the reason why I have been insisting that using the same textures as the original outfit should not be allowed. In any case, that would defeat the purpose of this competition, which is to celebrate the achievements of the modders who work is on the Hub, not to plagiarize it!
And just a little bit of advice: don't call Pipolinne "Pip". :whi:

Edit: Regarding the discussion about how we can get inspired by another mod without copying it, I think that of course no using the same textures (as Mytly said). Also, I would think that the connection between the old mod and the new mod should be a concept (for example, applying an outfit's color scheme to a level, or maybe doing another character from the same movie/book/game that the original outfit is styled after). I don't think the objective should be to do the same type of mod (i.e. don't just recreate someone's Legend mod in TRA or vice versa) but to have a new outfit/level mod/etc. which is loosely connected to the original through some concept like I mentioned before :)

I'm with and Jennifer here: using the same textures shouldn't be allowed.
Though we must distinguish between someone using a texture similar to, for instance, Zipper's leopard mod to create a whole level based upon it or someone using it to create...another leopard skin,though the textures aren't the same.
I've also some reluctance concerning creating an outfit to honour another, if such outfit will be showing no original features or noticeable differences. If you're going to celebrate Xena's outfit,but don't want to mod a level, don't create another Xena, create Gabrielle!
Originality should be the main goal,me thinks.

For the moment, I'm undecided between 2 moddings tho. So many wonderful creations has been created, this is going to be very hard to choose only one of them.

just wondering... how do I change the text. It just comes up as blcoks :confused:
You mean you want to change the font in which the menu and subtitles are written? There's probably an easier way to do it, but when I did it I just logged the texture with all the letters on it and then lined up new letters over it before deleting the original layer. I can't work with dds's using my picture editing program, so I had to log it as a png, then take a screenshot of how the texture looked in the game against a black background, then copy all the white letters and paste them back into the texture so I knew where to put the new letters :vlol: It was a real pain, so I'd love to hear if someone else has a better way to do it :D
