View Full Version : What music shall we have?
Music has always played part of TR and although I dont really want any background music in the levels them selves (except for that sound like you have just entered somewhere that no one has entered in thousands of years!
I always thought something like 'Techno' sounds good (I read that Lara herself likes Trance music) I love the music from the snow mobile level from TR2!
Right now I can't be any happier that Troels Folmann will be back to score Underworld. It's been confirmed and I can't be any more relieved.
For techno music, it is better to match it to an intense part (like snow mobile in TR2 as you said), but raiding has always been something interesting and "antique-like" so basically Techno do not goes well with it, I prefer quiet music or the old TR ones modified and remade :)

If they could afford him I'd say Hans Zimmer. He did an incredible Job on PotC 2 & 3.
I can be wrong but I think they used one of his scores allready in the AoD trailers.

That would be an absolute dream. :cln:
As for the type of music, then I say keep it like it was in TR:A. Very well done, Imo.
Areas had their themes, then enemies had their own themes. Music would strike up at all the right moments, instead of playing constantly like a dull hum in the background.
The word is that the music is like a cross between "Tomb Raider, Anniversary, Uncharted and the Harry Potter movies".
If they can get a soundtrack with some dark tribal music, some epic danger tracks, and mix it all in with the TR theme - then I'll be extremely happy.
Throw in a live orchestra and my 'extremely happy' will seem like a pleasant smile in comparison to me bouncing off the walls. ;)
Something with TRL style soundtrack, it was atmospheric, dynamical,
just very TRish, or AoD's soundtrack was pretty well :).

agreed!
i especially loved Legend's soundtrack. then come TRLR, AOD and TR1.
i don't want music in the levels again like in Anniversary. that's too much music and i feel like watching a movie or somethin. i just want that backround noises like in the classic TR's. that was great, realistic and awesome!
^ That's what the setup in Anniversary was like! There was much more music in legend than there was in TR:A.
TR:A's popped up when a special moment was happening. legend's music was constantly playing.
:)
I love when ambience and music support each other when playing adventure games. Tomb Raider has some signature moments with music. One aspect I can't wait to learn more about is the music in the game. Although I'd probably want to experience it the first time when playing. So those moments with that music are burned into my head lol. I've always enjoyed connecting songs and such with various time periods or events.
Somehow Zelda Ocarina of Time: Ice Cavern music popped into my head while typing this post. [IMO] a great example of ambience and music co-existing

Or we could just make do with Danny Elfman :p
I'm just afraid that such a person to score a TR would result in the more or less constant music..?
I'm not unhappy with Troels Folmann, I just don't want it too technoish... :)

oops, you're right. i've mistaked A. for L. :o
How about X-Ray Dog or Immediate Music? Those two create bloody amazing and really epic music and sound effects for movies and trailers. A bit gothic, but the music is powerful and I think Underworld needs that kind of music.
Classic orchestral with real brass and strings. I'll target any keyboards within my vision. :mis:

Very dynamic and "agressive". In no way do I want some graceful music.
Music that gets ur heart racing half the time would be much appreciated:D

People keep saying music is important for them in videogames and they keep asking for people with no experience in scoring a videogame. It IS different you know?

I disagree. We are not talking about Sonic the Hedgehog. the devs go a long way to make sure people experience more in Tomb Raider than playing a 3D platformer. The cinematics (interesting word used for a game, isn't it?;)) ARE actually scripted, cut and orchestrated like for any other *movie*
And Hans Zimmer is just one of a dozen composers who has proven that he can enhance or even create a dramatic athmosphere. And nothing more or less is what the composer for a TR game has to do.
