As a writer (if you are), what kind of inspiration pushes you to write? Where do you usually get your inspiration from?

from everything in my life:

listen

shh.. listen!

the war drums are beating
the frenzied are feeding
on the sick and the bleeding
on cake they keep eating.
listless leaders leading
ignore the masses' pleading
urge henchmen to misdeeding
their 'heaven' receding.
the warriors proceeding
hysteria is breeding
duct tape and plastic sheeting
the misery exceeding.
marchers interceding
fail in impeding
children's suffering repeating
more hatred is seeding.
uranium depleting.
shh.. my heart is still beating.

So many things can trigger me to write. Usually it would be something that stimulated my mind so much that I can't stop thinking & I'll have to write :D

Usually after I watch a movie, are go through the day day-dreaming I come up with an idea. I can't be forced to write It just comes to me It's kind of wierd :p If I'm working on a story I write like 3 sentences then I wait for another idea.

No inspiration in my case. Its more like pictures and sentences appearing in my mind, drawing my attention until I cannot else than develop them....

Dreams, mainly. I know when I have a good'un, because I get bugged until I write stuff down. I also get inspired by roleplaying quite a lot (tabletop / crpg / just the basic settings etc). My muse is a pretty active gal, I must admit - although when the writing muse turns up, the drawing muse tends to flee, and vice versa, which is annoying...

Competition ;)

My writing muse is...usually on vacation. Once in a blue moon there'll be a mental image, phrase, or concept that inspires me and I'll spend hours trying to eke out a plot from it.

Music normally gets me going. If I listen to this certain song called "First Love." by the singer Adele, I get inspired to write stories about a relationship that has deteriorated. If I listen to something like "Hero" by Nickelback I get inspired to write a superhero story. :D

Also, my dreams inspire me. I have some pretty dodgy dreams, but the ones I write about are my unusual dreams. Dreams that involve me and my friends, I incorporate them in my stories and give them character.
