View Full Version : Multiple keypress problem

My keyboard - a month old Merc Stealth - seems to have developed a problem with multiple keypresses. Some keys work fine pressed together (up to 4 simultaneous keypresses should be allowed) but others won't.

For example, CTRL+A works fine, but CTRL+T doesn't; I can hold down Q, W, E and R down simultaneously and they all respond, but if I hold down Y and try to press U nothing happens. Some shortcuts can be done with either the right CTRL button or the left one, some shortcuts can only be done with the right CTRL button, and some shortcuts don't work with either. Also the media buttons at the top of the keyboard don't work when this problem is happening, but work fine again when it goes back to normal behaviour.

Basically, in a nutshell, I can't use some keyboard shortcuts and it's ****ing me off.

It's been behaving like this on and off since yesterday evening; sometimes it goes back to full functionality, and sometimes it gets restricted again. I'm not even sure whether it's a problem with the keyboard or with the computer itself, but I can't try it with another keyboard because I don't think I have any left that still work...

I haven't spilled anything on it, I don't eat over it, I don't abuse it in any way; all I do is type on it. My friend has the same one and got it at the same time, and his is absolutely fine. o_O

Evening Grace :wve:

I can suggest 2 ways:
1. Delete KB driver from Control panel > System > Hardware > Device manager and reboot. Install Generic MS KB driver.

2. The same but install native MM KB driver after.

If this won't help please post Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and ARDiag.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/ardiag.exe) reports for me to search for some interference :)

all I do is type on it.
Ahem... UT? :whi:

Well I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the drivers but it doesn't ask me which drivers to install when I plug it in, it just installs stuff automatically. I'll try once more then use those two programs and post the results.

Half an hour once a week. :p

2. Try killing Zboard.exe process and look if the issue remains after.

3. You can try pluging your KB to another USB port also, or even using USB-2-PS/2 adapter.

Right, will try that tonight, thanks. :)

Btw, any idea why it says NVidia? My card's ATI.

:wve: Grace

Did you have an NVidia card before?
Or any NV software installed ATM?

Oh, yeah, one more question :) Is your KB wireless?

Ah, I think there was a Geforce in it when I got it, which I swiftly replaced. That'll be it lol.

Keyboard's wired. Gold-plated USB connector too. :P

Try ports change or connecting via USB-2-PS/2 adapter then :)

Hmm. I tried what you suggested, downloaded that Autoruns program and unchecked all the ones you mentioned, but it didn't work. I'm glad I did that though because I managed to get rid of a few things that would load at startup that were totally un-needed memory leeches, so thanks for that suggestion. :tmb:

BUT it's working now. o_O I took it downstairs to try on my other computer just to reassure myself that it was a software problem and not the keyboard, and it did work fine. Then I took it back up here and unintentionally plugged it into my USB hub instead of directly into the port on the front of my computer, and it's working again. I had tried switching ports this morning and it didn't work then, so I don't really understand why it's working now.

Oh the things we take for granted; I never knew how I'd miss CTRL+T until I lost it. :p

Did you unplug it "hot" or boot your PC w/o the KB? This can explain it fixed itself.

I didn't turn off the PC at any stage of the operation, if that's what you mean. Just pulled the cable out, tried it downstairs, then took the keyboard back up and stuck it in a different port.

FYI it's malfunctioning again. -_- I don't think I did anything that could have caused it to stop either.

Is it plugged to USB2 port or USB (you have both types)?

It's plugged into USB. I don't think I have a USB>PS2 connector to try though.

Nope, I mean you must have 2 USB 2.0 ports and 4 or 6 USB 1.1 ports.

Ah, I didn't read your post properly. :o It's plugged into USB2 I think.

Try USB 1.1 for your KB...
