I've got a couple of questions.

First, what is the beep when you start up your computer?

Second, why does my computer often nowadays fail to progress to the beep? It just stays in the first screen for ages

1. What's your PC BIOS? (AWARD, AMI, other)

2. What's exactly the beep sequence? (a long continuous or some other)

3. Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) report can be useful.

4. Did you open the case recently, some contacts may be loosen.

It's just happy to see you. If there's more than one beep or a whistle instead I'de start worrying. ;)

1. AMI

2. One, short-ish beep.

3. As usual :p

4. Since it started doing this, I've opened it twice and made sure everything's tightly in place.

1 short for AMI is DRAM error, check memory slots. Can also be: The programmable interrupt timer or programmable interrupt controller has probably failed.

1. Better: DRAM module is loosen.

2. The worst: MoBo error - possibly ready to let a ghost out :(

I remember on my win 98 pc ages ago, I was playing TRLE games from a disc, ad the CD drive made a very load whining noise.
Its a good thing I stood up, as the entire drive literally exploded into pieces and the disc was shattered!:(
Sometimes when I run old 98 games on XP, my PC is louder than normal as it loads disc data too..
