View Full Version : Do you have any idol?

I have a question to you.
Do you have any idol? Is it actor, singer, director, model, ...?
Are you in love with him/her? Or only you like him for that he/she did?
Tell us who is it! :jmp:

I have LOTS of idols, but actually I am in love with Bill Paxton (52).
It is actor, and I liked him in Aliens, Predator 2, Apollo 13, Titanic and Near Dark.

General Wesley Clark. I served under General Clark for a time and found him to be one of the smartest and most capable leaders I have ever met. I don't have any idols per se since I think one should try to be the best one can be without worrying about other people.

That being said there are people I admire for their accomplishments, sure. Too many to name though. But they are all related to my biggest passions - music, movies and games.

That's the kind of answer I like to see in a thread like this :tmb:
I think our "idols" should be those people that walk into our lives, for whichever reason, and leave a deep mark throughout our existence. I can say I have a few teachers that gave me that (specially my law teacher) among other people whom I have been very fortunate to meet. Now those I consider my idols. The people that make me take a turn a look at things differently. The ones that make me look at myself. The ones that somehow, make me want to be a better person.

The entire Indiana Jones character has had a profound effect on my life. He is my main inspiration for wanting to become an archaeologist. Even though he's a fictional character, I can honestly say he is who I want to be. I want to go all over the world, see things no one has seen for hundreds or thousands of years. I know that his adventures are exaggerated, but that doesn't matter. The mystery , the idea of exploring the unknown and rediscovering the forgotten is one that carries over to real archeology. And besides, it's not like the career is without danger:cool:

i dont usually idolize people, i find myself to be too much of an equal with them. but video game characters, yes:

Lara Croft (AOD)
Nariko (Heavenly Sword)

first inspiration for freerunning/exploring would be Lara. and the whole isolated & inner strength.
Nariko' powerful, and her sword wielding is a marvel.

and ofcourse their drastic image difference of being strong women that also look good.

i dont "worship" anything; but something to look towards to

I'll refrain from politically sensitive persons like in a previous thread about this. :/

As artists/musicians, I'd say Gerard Way, and like someone else already said, not for his looks (I don't even find him particularly attractive O_o) but as an artist, for his attitude towards music, and how he has dealt with his life.
Joe Strummer for being a one-of-a-kind poet and musician, and being so influential, both in terms of the music world in general, but also in terms of my own political ideas.
And Jared Leto because he is an amazing actor who has only GOOD roles in GOOD movies, and then he has created a true musical movement (granted, with his brother ;)) with truly inspiring lyrics that have actually helped me know myself better.

As an historical figure, I'd say Alexander the Great. He was quite simply a genius born much ahead of his time, who dreamt of global harmony, and aspired to build it, long before the globe was even fully known. And although on the oposite side I also admire very much Octavian the first roman emperor for how he came from being just a weak kid no one cared for, and with his pragmatism, he managed to institute a regime of stability and prosperity after one of the bloodiest periods of History.

That's the kind of answer I like to see in a thread like this :tmb:

I disagree. You're basically talking about people who have actually influenced your life directly, by actually teaching you, guiding you, etc.

But by definition an idol is a person of which you have constructed almost a "divine" image, in your head, and that image (who may not be true to the actual person in question) represents something you greatly admire, or even something you would like to be. An idol is like a god for you, psychologically speaking, therefore he/she doesn't appear to you, nor does it influence you, directly.

I think everyone has someone who influences their lives directly, but I also think it's nice to have actual idols, people who have done great things in the world itself; since sometimes they actually make you aspire at grand things that people in your normal environment don't encourage in you.

Other than that, I used to idolize Evanescence - but now they've turned into a one-man show..

I'm idolizing this selfless guy in cricket, he's the captain of PK team, who has given his strike to many other youngsters to "help build confidence in themselves while I trust them with my entire heart," as he likes to put

I am easily influenced by people, but I feel that there is something in everyone that really gets to you - and my defintion of "IDOLIZING" is when I try to adopt someone else's good habits as my own.. Lolzz, where does Evanescence fit into this .. I wonder... :vlol:
