i reckon it would be fun to have had an unlimited health cheat. that way you could swim under water as long as you want, and fall off high buildings without killing yourself. what do you guys think?

There is no need for anything like that. That's what I think.

if you beat the game legally and that unlocks a god mode, i'm all for it. could be lots of fun.

by beating the game legally do you mean by completing the levels without any cheats?

sort of. you get unlimited weapons & ammo. does that count? haha.

tbh, i don't believe in cheating to finish a game. but cheating on the second time through can be loads of fun.

my opinion is that i don't need it. the entire game itself had great parts and memorable moments, and what will you gain if you just skip it all with a cheat? trust me, playing the game normally is an experience in itself ;)

I agree.... there is NO NEED for an "unlimited" health cheat as far as TR1 is concerned.

Although........ there is a way to enable unlimited health :whi:

By The Way........ I am not telling anyone how to do it :p:p

Sort of like life. ;)

I have strong views about cheats, but I grudgingly try to remember you don't have to agree. IMO, if you play through without them first, then they can be an interesting variation. If you use them the first time (or the first time you go for secrets, etc.), you're just cheating yourself out of the triumph that comes from overcoming a difficulty - and probably your poor little ego wants to pretend that you "beat the game" (Judgmental? Who, me?).

I've got to the point where I research the games, rather than play them. I love the thrill of discovery. I feel sure if I had used cheats too much, I never would have persisted enough to make some of my discoveries (not all bugs).

BTW, I think bugs are different from cheats. Cheats are started by using a code or a program that GIVES you an easy way. Bugs result from abilities of the game engine that not even the designers were aware of, at least originally. Someone discovered them, like physicists discovered how to split the atom.

They have the following in common: if you don't struggle with the "normal" way first, using a bug doesn't give the thrill of finding a shortcut.

Of course, you're the best judge of how you will enjoy the games. But I'm not going to be the one to assure you it's "OK" or "cool". You should be thoroughly ;)ashamed;) of yourself.

I'd really prefer to beat the game legally first before I mess around with anything like that. Though for some games in the series, like TR II and TR III, it could be quite refreshing.

I think it'd be cool to have an unlimited health cheat available. Sure, I like to play through the game the right way, but sometimes I just want to meander around and see the sights. I don't really care about beating the game during those times, so it'd be nice to not have to worry.

I've used Gameshark for Tomb Raider and I used an unlimited health cheat, it only works to a certian extent though. In other words, when you jump from a high altitude you'll still die, even with your health set to unlimited. This is because the game has a, how should I say, "trigger" that detects the duration on how long Lara has fallen and how high the altitude of the fall is. And when it reaches to a certian point [such as jumping or diving from a really extensive altitude] she'll automatically start screaming and by then you're automatically dead because the games animation sequence is programmed to do that for that specific action.

However, constructing an unlimited health program that does obstruct these flaws and allows the player to jump from virtually any distance and fall regularly or not loose health. Would take a bit more time and be a bit more complicated, but I think it's possible.

I use an unlimited health cheat when replaying TR1. I don't care about righteous people who think they can 'dictate' how other people play games :) I agree that every game should be played first time without cheats, but afterwards, do whatever the hell you want. And for those that aren't after the challenge of a game, then they're free to play with cheats straight from the beginning, in my opinion! As long as you're having fun, that's all that counts.

It's easier making the unlimited health cheat if you're using the Glidos version, or an emulated PS1 version on PC.

You just need to use a trainer tool or memory hacking tool. I personally use ArtMoney. I can't remember the exact values for Lara's health as I have them saved, but you can be lazy and just look on the second byte which means when Laras health is (A), you search for value (B).

(A value) - (B value)
three quarters to full health - 3
half to three quarters health - 2
one quarter to half health - 1
nearly dead to one quarter - 0

By using the second byte, you don't have to be as precise and can find her health much quicker. Anyway, once you find the memory address, you just subtract one from the location to get her REAL health location and value (setting the bytes to 2), or you can be lazy like me, and just set the second byte to 4, and then you'll never see her health drop :D

Oh, annoying thing though, her health is in a different location on each level, so you have to search for it everytime you start a new level. Though once you've done that for each one, then just save it all to a file. If the first level's location ever changes, you can offset the rest and it should work out.

Sorry if this is a mish-mash explanation, its 2:52am for me.

EDIT: I forget that if you're using the PC version, you can simply use one of the SaveGame editors lieing about which gives you the option to set Lara's health to unlimited. Still has to be done for each level though. Nice and easy at least :)

I don’t think cheats are necessarily a bad thing. When I played TR1 for the first time, I would never have finished it without using cheats, and would probably have given up and never played TR again. But it was thanks to the cheats that I later realised what a wonderful game it was, and that made me determined the next time to finish without using any cheats.

Of course that second time I finished (without cheating) was the more satisfying, but it wouldn’t have happened without having cheated the first time.

But unlimited health? I would probably play a few levels for a bit of fun but then I would get bored and go back to playing normally. Tomb Raider without the fear factor isn’t really Tomb Raider.

I would only do it if I had completed the game a few times without any cheats whatsoever.

Then maybe I would thing about it...:D
