I've opened a thread to discuss the upcoming film The Dark Knight - the sixth of the Warner Bros. Batman series, and the second of Christopher Nolan's "re-invention" of the Batman story.

I'd like to begin the topic with this interesting article I found:

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23548096-1702,00.html

And here are the trailers:

Its very sad that he passed away, someone said that it will be like watching a Ghost on the Movie without the Actor.

I also read once that they wanted him to be the Joker again in the Next Movie.

I am seeing it. I love The Joker (as a character) and Harley (even though she's not in it, I heard she was going to be at one point.)

I just read the article..that is strange and interesting. I wonder if he had a sixth sense that this role was his last? That probably sounds barmy but in a few instances people have done things out of the ordinary before theyve died (ill use casey calvert from hawthorne heights as an example. before he died (of the same tragedy as Heath in fact) he had gone to the other band members and said goodnight first, which never happened on other days.)

Anyway, like I said, I will go see it, and the Joker figures are hideous.

Sarah Michelle Gellar should play Harley.

Yeah, it's a shame that Harley Quinn isn't worked into the storyline. Great character. Very funny in the Animated Series. :)

I'm certainly anticipating The Dark Knight. Did anybody else hear of the technique they're using, of filming Aaron Eckhardt with and without Two-Face make-up in the same scenes, then cutting in in away that he appeared to be morphing?

Man, I would so love to come back to, and read, this thread- but can't.

I've heard pictures of Two-face are all over the net so I don't want to ruin anything on myself.
Plus a new trailer is either out already, or due to be released.

And not all Joker figures are hideous, the new Joker busts look so real :p

Is Aaron in The Dark Knight? :yik:
I didn`t see him in the trailer and all I know Joker is a main villain....
Well I love Jack as Joker. He was gorgeous but TOO funny. Heath was a great actor, I just can`t believe still he`s not here anymore. And his Joker is antipod of Jack`s one. He`s real Joker. Very scary, sadistic and his make-up!!!!....
I`m happy this summer will be great becoz of two friggin beautiful upcoming films: X-Files Sequel and The Dark Knight!!!! Yay!

And Dale, I`m not surprised you love Batman`s universe too. You love the same things as me. PLAGIATOR!!!! :D

Apparently, Harvey Dent (played by Aaron Eckhardt) is transformed into the Two-Face by the Joker during a court case. Not sure where I heard this, but supposedly the third Nolan film will follow up on it.

Also, the film is said to be roughly three hours long. And audiences were shocked (for obvious reasons) during early screenings because of a scene in which Ledger as the Joker fakes death in a body bag. ;) There have been rumours that the scene will be cut, but the director says the film will be shown as he fully intended.

My most anticipated movie right now. I like Batman, but Batman done by Christopher Nolan (my favorite director) and Christian Bale (one of my favorite actors) is something else.

I was always very interested in seeing Ledger's portrayal of Joker. After seeing the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight I know it was the right choice.

Aaron Eckhardt is another great addition. After seeing his role in "Thank you for smoking" I become a bit of a fan.

This sort of unpredictable casting (Ledger as Joker and Eckhardt as Two Face) is the kind of thing I love about Chris Nolan. I'm sure "The Dark Knight" will blow me away specially now that the "weak link" (aka Katie Holmes; too cute for me to take her seriously;cute in a bad sense too) is gone things can only get better.

As for that news you posted it's the kind of stuff I ignore completely. Celebrity speculation is never accurate and often twists things up, specially when the person is dead. I'm not saying it's true but it's the sort of article and wants to create a legend out of the whole episode.

I just love Aaron in Thank you for smoking (one of my fav films) amd I liked him in Black Dahlia. Well it`s another great young actor in new Batman story. I also loved Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face and I hope Aaron will be cool in DK. By the way he looks like Harvey Dent in Batman comics

It will be surreal to see this movie now that Heath is gone. :( His Joker is probably one of the movie characters I most eagerly anticipated, like, ever. When I had my live messenger space active I had posted an entry called "Heath Ledger OWNS" with the trailer for The Dark Knight, because I was so excited; this was about one month before he died. :(:(

Overall, I think this movie might very well be a masterpiece, and not only of its genre. If all the ingredients of Batman Begins are there - specially the top acting and the 5 star directing - the fact that the story will be more expanded means it will blow us away completely.

But, even if this sounds a bit cruel, I think it's the fact that it's Ledger's last big role that will turn the movie into a classic. :/

After seeing the first movie and watching the director's approach to Joker and Two-Face, I have to say I'm starting to love how dark these batman films have become. Really gothic and insane! Compare the movies to this portion of an episode and you'll see how the 1960s show of Batman was too happy and bright.

I liked him when I was younger and I first saw the Batman movies.
But since Batman Begins came out, and also since I read more recent Batman books, I started to dislike him a lot, not for Nicholson himself but for the movie's portrayal of Joker as a comedian in ridiculous costumes dancing to ridiculous music, not scary AT ALL. I much prefer Joker to be scary.

You seen the trailer? Of course they're not fixing the Batmobile, a "sleek and sexy" Batmobile would so NOT fit the style of this movie. And it just wouldn't make sense to change it now. It looks like a tank because it was an army prototype.

Yeah he brought a great depth to the characters. Returned it more to the dark detective style the comic had before the camp-factor took hold and was made famous thanks to the TV show. Him and Alan Moore saved Batman and others have continued to make him great since. Batman: The Long Halloween is one of the best that has been released since the late 80's rejuvenation.

I read that the original script for Batman 5 (back before Nolan directed Batman Begins) had Harley and Scarecrow team up as the main villains. Supposedly Harley wanted revenge for Joker's death and along with Scarecrow would use his drugs to create Joker hallucinations for Batman.

Sucks that such an interesting plot didn't hit production. :(

Though Batman Begins is still good though and helped the series start fresh again. :)

For those who claim that Two-Face was in Batman Returns - he was in Batman Forever. Don't get the two confused. :p

I used to quite like Batman Forever when I was young (I loved batman and returns and Forever was the 1st I got to see in the cinema.) However after watching it again recently I was shocked at how bad it was, especially how nowadays I can appreciate what an excellent character Two-face can be in the comic (he's basically Bruce Wayne if he had made the choice to kill rather than capture the people he chases). Forever butchered the character!

Oh, and it's heavily rumoured that while Two-Face will appear in the film he won't be used as a 'true' baddie till number 3!

That makes perfect sense considering the synopsis of The Dark Knight. I'm assuming the scene of the disfiguration with acid will happen near the end of the movie.

i just grew up to be a hard to kill fan of those batman cartoons,.. sadly i cant say the same for "the batman" ones,. even thou some aspects were/are nice, it shows no more a dark night but a more colourful, almost based on the 50s series the batman,... the joker was supposed to be a crazy sociopath, and on the batman one he is just nuts,.. not like in the previous animated one, where he is really mad,... in the batman beyond series return of the joker you can feel the chills of madness,.. shame the whole concept was canceled...:(

Depends which region.

The Region 1 release comes in single-disc and double-disc editions.

The single-disc release features a commentary and a sneak peek at the animated Wonder Woman movie.

The double-disc release also includes two or three featurettes and four episodes of Batman: The Animated Series.

Unfortunately, the United Kingdom are being cheated. Only the single-disc is available, but with a limited edition booklet also.

As far as I know, the DVD and Blu-Ray releases are identical in terms of bonus content.

Anyway, movies nowadays didn't make much of deaths of the villains like they used to. I mean Batman & Robin got Poison Ivy gone mental, Mr. Freeze free as a bird (penguin) and Venom left being thin again ying on the floor, liquid venom-less.

*POSSIBLE SPOILER*

I very much doubt that Joker will die. One of the big ideas in the film is that Bruce is questioning where the line should be drew in fighting crime, and whether or not he should KILL. A lot of quotes from the trailers point towards this too.

Joker [to Batman]: Tonight, you're gonna break your one rule.
-----------
Harvey [to Bruce, and possibly others]: You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
----------
Alfred: Know your limits, Master Wayne.
Bruce: Batman has no limits!

There's also a scene from the second trailer in which Batman drives towards The Joker on his Bat-pod, ready to run him over and kill him. Joker even encourages him ("Come on, HIT ME!"), because he is determined to destroy Batman's "innocence", in lack of a better term, even if it means his own death. Quite a masochist. However, Batman then swerves out of the way.

Then again, David Letterman, who saw an early screening, claims that "everyone dies at the end." So who knows?

:wve:

By the way, Scarecrow returns, but in a very minor role. One reviewer said the character was even "wasted." Also, although Ras Al Ghul was immortal in the comics, Nolan's take on Batman is more realistic, so I'm sure he died in the crash.

*AGAIN, POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

I'm pretty sure that maybe half-way through the movie, the Joker hides in a body bag so that can make his way into Gotham Hospital without being spotted. There, he disguises himself as a nurse, and causes chaos. Trailers show the hospital blowing up.

However, Christopher Nolan is suposedly undecided if he will recast Joker.
On an interview with him and Gary Oldman, Oldman said this

Oldman then took a moment to think about it some more, "Maybe we don't need the Joker. Because we'll have The Riddler." Yes, Oldman alluded to the fact that The Riddler may in fact be the next on-screen Batman villain.

Sparked a whole new discussion on Riddler being in the next movie. What do you think of this??? :D

And Chris Nolan said the following:

"If you do choose to make a third Batman film, do you think that you would recast for the Joker? Or will he not appear in the film?"

Nolan's reply, "I don't know. I honestly have not taken a moment away from what is going on with the film now to even think about that. I don't know. I simply don't know."

Guess my memory is screwed. It's a fully grown woman. :p

It seems that the actress (Sarah Jayne Dunn) will be playing a character named Natasha. So it seems unlikey that Harley will be making an appearance. :( Unless Nolan, with his realistic Batman approach, decided that making the character "Harlene Quinzelle" would be extremely coincidental and therefore ridiculous. But maybe I'm just reading too deeply into things.

I'd rather Joker wasn't in the third film. Just the idea of someone playing The Joker other than Heath makes me . . . ergh!

Heath Ledger will receive a posthumous tribute at the end of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight, it has been confirmed.

The actor - who died aged just 28 of an accidental prescription drugs overdose in January - plays Batman's villain The Joker in the movie and is already being tipped for a posthumous Oscar for the role.

The tribute at the end of the movie also acknowledges Conway Wickliffe, the special-effects technician who died last September in an accident involving a stunt car.

The tribute reads: "In memory of our friends Heath Ledger and Conway Wickliffe."

Supposedly Sarah Jayne Dunn from Hollyoaks is playing Harley, but it isn't confirmed. Her role in The Dark Knight is said to be being kept top secret, which kinda feeds fuel to the fire of Harley Quinn rumours.

I'm not sure if the film needs a Harleen Quinzel, but who knows! :o

Williams will not attend 'The Dark Knight' premiere
02/07/2008 - 8:54:05 AM

Michelle Williams has confirmed she will not be attending the premiere of her late boyfriend Heath Ledger's final complete film 'The Dark Knight' - because there is no reason for her to be there.

The actress has been at the centre of recent reports claiming she is snubbing the much-hyped event due to a feud between herself and the tragic actor's family over the handling of his estate.

However, the star's representative Mara Buxbaum is keen to put the rumours to rest once and for all, insisting the actress is not feuding with the Ledgers - and insisting Williams never intended to walk the premiere's red carpet.

She says: "There is misinformation all over the place. (The premiere) was never on her calendar and she's not in the movie. This isn't a press event for her. She's not going, there is no reason."

Ledger's parents and sister are expected to jet to New York from their home in Perth, Australia, to attend the premiere on 14 July - six months after Ledger took an accidental overdose at his Manhattan apartment.

and a dominos trailer with unseen stuffs;

Ledgers make up looks terrifying when he's surrounded by the darkness. I prefer this to the real trailer.

I liked it, but not as much as the others. The others were more varied and covered different aspects of the film, while this one seems to solely concentrate on the Batman/Joker relationship. I did love the shot of Joker in the dark though, and his line: "Does it depress you? How alone you really are?"

Just the idea of someone playing The Joker other than Heath makes me . . . ergh!

:wve:

Here's what I think about this ( I love H.Q. and Joker together if she's in this movie holy crap I might just die) I think Nolan gave her a new name and she will not be wearing her suit. I just cannot picture her wearing it in the movie. In the image you can see both characters smiling are that's what it appears to me. They probably wont directly say Harley Quinn.

They don't mention anything about the bat signal however one of the guys (I'm assuming he's Harvey) points down and talks about the other guy's office (Commissioner Gordon's office?) It's hard to say what's going on but it would make sense if the Bat signal was within Commissioner Gordon's reach so therefore it would be above the Police Department building.

Yes it would make perfect sense. Not to mention, it would be awkward for the Bat-signal to be anywhere else. Also these contests seldom-ly have ultra hard questions.

EDIT: The scene basically explains the reason for Batman to go to Honk Kong (like the guy who commented mentioned). He's going after Lau. Whoever that is.

^ what I don't get (but of course I'm not suposed to get until I watch it.. lol) is how does Hong Kong tie with the Joker spreading anarchy in Gotham.

And also where does the Scarecrow fit in all of this.

Hey, don't get me excited unless you really mean it! :p

:D Unfortunately it doesn't depend on me though :p

BTW love your signature!

Maybe he's just for hire. This Morrone (I didn't get his name) character Gordon speaks about (the one who "clearly has people" in Harvey's [the DA] office) might be the new kingpin (ala Falcone) in town.

As for Hong Kong, this movies seems to be a little less linear then what might transpire from the trailers. It's a 2h30min movie and there are already a lot of characters. Lots of possibilities...I'm glad I don't have a clue about it, to be honest :)

Nicely dodged.:p Just kidding ;)

BTW love your signature!

I'm having that tattooed lest I forget!

It appears that Sarah Jayne Dunn has now confirmed her role as Harley Quinn in The Dark Knight....

"How did you end up in the new Batman movie?"

"The audition came up via my agent and I read for it in London. They wanted a local actress who could do an American accent, rather than having to fly someone to the London set from the US. I play the Joker's evil sidekick, Harley Quinn. I was curious about how a film set would be different from a TV set."

Personally I find Harley Quinn as more comical, than dark, which appears to be the films direction. Though we'll just have to wait and see :D

And for those who aren't sure of who she is...

She's only got a cameo, apparently. And she's back in Hollyoaks, so I don't think she'll be Harley Quinn.

She'd better not be, anyway!

Yeh I hope her part isn't that big at all, I think it would throw too many things into the mix, if you understand :p

Plus I don't really like her in Hollyoaks, ahem :pi:

I don't see how that lady would make a good one tbh.
