From another, now closed, thread I read you wrote

The biggest problem is getting sound on XP, I just dont bother anymore and when it asks during the install menu which sound card does it use, I just bypass that, and play it silently.

why of course, if you don't take advantage of VDMSound (freeware) and/or SoundFx2000 ($hareware), you're bound to play silently...
it has all been fixed for years now

ANOTHER TR1 SUBJECT....
While I am talking about the Tr1 game on PC, can anyone remember the letter of the builtin snapshot button, to take a photosnap of the game while it is running ?
In the origional game on Win95 that facility was there, but I can't find it now on winXP.

There never was a screenshot key for TR1, you would use one of the dos capture utilities then, like Pcxdump, Grabber, ScreenThief...
sweet memories
btw the printscreen key is useless for that.

Then, as Esconder noticed, they implemented a screenshot key with TR Unfinished Business, the forward-slash key "/"
and as Stella properly remarks,
Press the slash key again to stop it, or you'll quickly eat up your hard disk space!

Besides, .pcx files can't be opened with MSPaint later than Win3.1x

Wouldn't this be more appropriate as a PM? Instead of creating a whole thread for one member?

A thread just for me, I am totally humbled :D

I have played TR1 for years on Win95 and win98 machines with sound, so I know the sounds by heart. It does not bother me playing it silent nowadays, as I usually just want screen shots from it.

Many thanks for your thread though :tmb:

I have tried the VDM sound software when playing enhanced graphics TR1 through Glidos, and it silenced my computer sound system, as it was not compatable with my particular computer. Though the Glidos graphics are nice :)

I had to use a restore on my winXP to get the computer sound working again.

I may try that SoundFx2000 software you mentioned.

Considering all my other TR games on PC are OK with 100% sound, I am quite happy with that, thanks :D

:) I would have followed on that thread hadn't it been shut from above...

That's strange, have you ever tried Dosbox ?
It has built-in soundblaster emulation as well and it ideally should be 360° compatible, on a larger scope than VDMSound itself.
Btw Dosbox has native screenshot capture capability whatever game you're playing : Ctrl + F5, and AVI "movie" recording : CTRL + ALT + F5.

Gidierre & Great Chi - please continue your discussion via PM.

Gidierre - if you are addressing a single member, please use the PM facility instead of starting a thread about it. Yes, I can see that you were hoping your information would interest other members as well, but it doesn't seem to have done so. In any case, if others want to know these things, they are perfectly capable of asking.
