I just recently bought the computer game Next Life the box art and info on the box looked great! It looked like a Resident Evil game with a Silent Hill type feeling.:jmp: So I popped it into my PC, waited for it to fully install while inserting the discs when the time came. I start a new game intro makes the game interesting, had my logitech game controller ready to map, went to options and............................................... ..:confused::confused: Crap, exited the menu thinking maybe it only uses keyboard functions. Nothing worked , I suddenly felt really angered to realize that I accidentally clicked the left mouse button on an area, and Adam (the main character) followed. Oh no, :( I now wish I would have gotten Dark Sector instead. I only made this thread to tell people of the disappointment that might occur. The gameplay is incredibly slow and sometimes predictable. I feel like I made the wrong choice and bought this instead of Dark Sector. What will I do now? :hea:

Its a good idea to at least check SOME sort of ratings sites before buying a game.

Next Life
4.5/10
"Tedious pace and annoying pixel hunts sabotage this surreal adventure."

one moment, let me find my post about this game in the "games you wish you didnt buy" thread - or w/e it is called.

Next Life (Reprobates) (http://www.quandaryland.com/jsp/dispArticle.jsp?index=829)

I figured that would be all that was needed - the link says it all.

yeah, I agree on the crappiness of a largely point and click linear adventure. No option to use a controller, which is the way I play all my games. Had I known it didn't allow for controller use, I wouldn't have bought it. Oh well, lesson learned I guess. Read about the controls first.... Oh, and if you intend to play the game through, you will undoubtedly find yourself scouring the internet for a walkthrough. I did, I had to, most of the times in the game, there was something that needed to be picked up which could not be seen. Or there would be something you do where Adam says "this isn't working", but if you do it a second time, it works because he tries from a different angle. There was no clue that doing it a second time would work. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing twice expecting different results. I am not insane, so naturally I wandered around the whole island trying to find another tool to work with and found none. It is my opinion that the creators of this game were totally insane and had the intention of driving other in that direction. I don't know about you, but I could have done without all the conversation. But it was necessary to sit through it to figure out something that is common sense so that the character will learn how to do it. Yes, that is right, you have to talk to someone in order for your character to find out that you can use stones to create sparks to light your grass on fire. And other times you had to endure a pointless conversation in order to get a different character to go somewhere new so you can have another pointless conversation with them so that something else pointless to what you really need to do will happen so that eventually, the bell will ring and you have a night mare. Get through the night mares and wake up back in your cabin with none of the tools you collected earlier. By the way, Adams voice is annoying as all hell and he is a total moron.

Yeah, but sometimes It's fun to gamble with games. If you find a cheap/semi cheap price game that looks good, I sometimes buy it. I did that with battlefield and I ended up liking it.
I have never heard of that game your first description of re and sh made me want to look it up, but then you said it was bad lol. How much did you pay for the game?

But I was at the store looking for a game to get, and never heard of Next Life before but it looked so great and it just happened.

I must admit, after looking at it on IGN, despite the 4.5 review lol, both the box art and the screenshots do make it look pretty nice. Not so sure about the whole Nixon thing though... can't imagine what actually happens in the game :P

I can see why you'd pick it up based on the box art, and any possible screen shots included on the back of the box. It does look great! The description on the box probably sounded good too - it definitely seems like a game that could be good.

I actually want to check it out now, even though I've read the negative reviews and all lol.

Never judge a game by its cover :wve:

I admit, the graphics quality was awesome and so were some of the puzzles. Especially the puzzles that did not take place on the island. But, lack of direction, poor controls, way too much pixel hunting, crappy sound/conversation, and the failure to answer the question of "what does the next life hold?" gets this game two thumbs down from me:mad::mad:
