View Full Version : Khamoon
Does anyone know where Khamoon in TR1 get its name?
I was wondering if it was a shortened form of "ankh amun" which in Egyptian means "The Living Sun God" or "The Living Amun" or some such. (So Tutankhamun means "Image of the Living Sun God".) :)
I was also interested how close Khamoon is to "Khartoum" in Sudan (ancient Kush); the meaning of the name "Khartoum" is not known with any certainty ...

I would assume it comes from Ka - Amun.
The Ka being some kind of double, the life-force of the living beings. Although it could be kha like in Kha-f-Ra (http://fr.wikipedia.org/w/extensions/wikihiero/img/hiero_N28.png) (Khafra), which would be the verb ḫˁi, "to rise". Then it would mean "What rises like Amun" or maybe "Where Amun rises".
It would be written like this :

By the way, given the kind of "research" they did for TR1, there's probably not that much to read into it ;)
Khamoon isn't a proper name. It was created for tr1 :)
Thanks Clara - it's interesting :) Do those heiroglyphs come from the game?
I know the research for TR1 was somewhat lacking. However I've trying to build an idea of how one could explain it, if one takes what we know as the "gospel", which is quite a challenge but fun.

Not at all, I just assembled the hypothetic group of signs for a place called Kha-Amun :wve:

I'll say - Vilcabamba looks nothing like the real thing, the Gods in SFF are Greek, Roman and Norse and Atlantis...well, that's fictional anyway, so it doesn't matter. :p
