Wow... is it floating in mid air?

yup,

it took hours to get it to perfectly balance

It look very tiny in a photo, but its actually huge in real life. the web covered the ceiling and was around 30 feet across

'In Limbo'? Cool title! Love your piece, the web is petty fantastic.

Ive always had an interest in the more abstract pieces at exhibitions. Some of these are very haunting :tmb:

Great work mate, I couldn't make it over that night because I got a bit tied up in stuff myself :p

What is it?

Its two Magnets supporting each other levitating in mid air from thread, but they aren't allowed to touch because of the web holding them apart.

2 Magnets pulling at each other but kept apart via the webz?

Is that kind of thing dangerous for someone with, like... a pace-maker?

It's neat none-the-less. Although it probably could've been better if it were 2 hand outstretched towards each other. But that's just my stupid opinion.:o

no, i seriously value other opinions on this!

I sliced my hand open before I constructed this and had to go to hospital so I didn't have time to make it completely as planned. it was more of a double funnel web design originally.

These are just photo's, so its hard to convey the effect of experiencing it in real life. people kept putting their hands between the gap, like a doubting thomas!

it was probably very dangerous but, ohh well! :D

Finally! Thanks for keeping your promise Gregory, and congratulations for the exhibition :)
Your piece looks amazing, especially that it's really hard to make it meet the perfect balance as you said, with all that long web :p :tmb: Can you talk a bit more about your piece though, if you don't mind? :)

As for the rest, I like most the angry guy paiting, his expression is so real :)

The angry guy is thomas punching himself in the face. my friend did that as a self portrait.

my piece was about expressing a bunch of stuff really,

firstly magnets are cool!

secondly, all religions ask you to have faith in things you can't see. well magnets exert invisible force that has enormous power over how our universe (and even us) work. There always more than meets the eye.

All belief systems and idealistic aspirations are very fragile in the conditions of the real world. Anything can knock them apart, people have to make hard and practical choices, its never a perfect world and ideals have a hard time standing up in reality.. I was trying to create such a perfect system that anything can throw off balance, a tense ephemeral moment when all is balanced.

the title is a reference to Limbo in christianity and also a radiohead song of the same name

Thank you for the explanations Gregory, things got more clear now, and I like your vision of the belief system and I find representing it with magnets very smart and creative :tmb: Good luck for your future creations and exhibitions :)
