View Full Version : Random Weather effects
Hear me out.
I was thinking how repetitive it would be to always have rain in the same level. Since this time the weather is suppose to work against you, I was thinking of something like this:
Rain - Lara gets wet (confirmed eye candy) Make everything slippery.
Sun - Make Lara sweat (eye candy), and maybe she can suffer some hallucinations (Resident Evil 5 will feature this) as well as the vision being effected (too much sun won't let you see properly - again RE5)
Snow - Make Lara have snow all in her hair, over her clothes, etc... (more eye candy) May block your way, and slow your running/movement such as jumping.
Of course, it wouldn't make much sense to have snow in Mexico, so it shouldn't be THAT random. But Croft Manor for example, England both Rain and Snow...not sure how Sunny it can get...anyway. You get the point, right?
The locations are still to be confirmed, but since plenty of countries have different climates, this might just include an extra challenge. After all, it is Lara vs the World ;)
+ storm - affecting her movement (running, jumping, aiming, shooting) and even can shake her off ledges, ropes or poles
+ snow, ice - slippery, she can slipp off ledges
+ lightning - just a good visual effect, even tho it can kill when Lara is standing under a wet tree

That would be awesome, having the World too against Lara. Agreed :tmb:
Yes, I agree that snow shouldn't allow Lara to jump properly, and the sun effects are really something to affect Lara, and the player's screen. Player shouldn't be allowed to see well and/or Lara shouldn't get a good sight of where she shoud go or where she has to reach.
Rain effects I think (and as u said) are already in the game, right? But while raining, Lara should be limitated when shooting (water in the eyes shouldn't help) or moving (slippery ground, slippery ledge, etc)
Also, I don't think it would be nice to have this Lara vs Weather effects occurring everytime only on the same places.... Make it happen randomly in the scenario.
I want eye candy but I hope Lara doesn't starts seen dancing leopards:eek:
For a moment i thought this thread is about Scarlet Weather Rhapsody.
At that very moment my fear knew no boundaries.
I think that sweating is confirmed. :)
Hasn't it been confirmed that the game will feature dynamic weather? That the weather will change during the levels?
We know the water will affect only the area it touches and the sun will dry out the mud and rain on her. But I'd love to see that hallucination effect if it gets too hot and she's in the sun for too long. Sweating would be sweet too. Not sure if that's been confirmed before, but it would be nice to see Lara literally sweating in the game.
If we do get a new winter level, I hope the snow isn't just a texture and will stick to her clothes, hair, skin and that the snow on the ground will be dynamic as well.
The hero..

i swear sweating has been confirmed :)
i swear sweating has been confirmed :)
yes and anyway it could be easily implemented, sweat is the same water
But Croft Manor for example, England both Rain and Snow...not sure how Sunny it can get...anyway.
I have mentioned that before. ;)
We do get the sun here!

That sounds like an excellent idea. Not only would it give the game varied gameplay, but it'd give it some replay value, too. :tmb:

I also like the idea of variable weather. It adds an extra element of diversity and realism to the game. The weather effects of Underworld are one of the most anticipated elements to this game for me. Thnx for posting. :tmb: :)
when its raining, go to a high area made of metal, get striked by lightning. (with the right effects, that would be the best death)
sun= dries water faster, sweat, might hold hand up to block sunlight when just standing (that would be really cool)
rain= gets wet, terrain is slippery, may slip in mud
wind= hair moves, dirt might blow off
snow= snow in hair, runs a bit slower, pink nose/cheeks

Agreed!
It is Lara vs the World, like RAID said, so yes, the environment should have as much effect on Lara as possible, without being unrealistic.
i totally agree with u! taht would be awesome lara sweating and stuff!

It would be nice to have varied weather for every level...hopefully it will be. I've read that each is also going to also have day and night sequences (daylight...slowly fades to darkness). I certainly this isn't just talk.

Hey, just curious, but didn't you say that TRU was going to be a piece of **** that CD gave us with TRL and TRA. You posted it when people were asking how TRU will be. So, whay exactly do you care?

This is actually what you put.
6. I'm disgusted and can't believe I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. That looks like the piece of dog **** they smashed in our faces last year.
I love the idea of dynamic weather, I can't wait to see how it'll be implemented, I bet the game will be brilliant! :tmb: ;)

Your point?

So, whay exactly do you care?Because its People like him that strikes attention for Crystal by making more Threads and explaining why he or we think TRU will be stupid.
1. Ae you really that dumb to figure a Puzzle out that White Ledges and Poles should be placed everywhere.
2. Get rid of Zip and Alister, do i need to say more.
3. Mommy and Daddy, do them in TRU and be done with it.
4. The Wetsuit idea, some People love it and other People hate it. I seriously dont want a Wedgy riding up my butt while Swimming you know.
We are just trying to give Crystal our Point of View with Cores TR Games, for you see. The Bigger the Success of a Game, the more Money you will make and the more Money you get, the more TR Games can be made.

Random weather effects are really old news in games, so they're only going to impress me if they have more than just a cosmetic effect on the game - for an example, you have to be more careful when climbing wet ledges, wind direction and strength affects your jumps, etc.

(@ daventry) Agreed. I mean, if you complain about it, their more likely to pay attention.
(Not that I do a lot but...yeah. :o)
Anyway, I think rain is just one of the things they've mentioned. It's never said it'll just be rain, but a lot of stuff. I agree that they should enhance it more, like a previous post said, 'Make Lara put her hand over her eyes to block the sun'.
But I think Lara will be expriencing a lot of stuff here for Underworld. I think there's going to be some super natural weather in the Underworld. :p But I would like to see Lara climb up really high and get struck by lightning and die.
I think it would be really cool if, due to the random weather, you dived into a lake on your first playthrough and it was really hot, like baking, and on your second playthrough you find yourself doing the same thing in torrential rain.
Damn, I hope it works out like that...
