Many mysteries are found behind the atlantean race and many people are well into the evolution of the race aswell as the many types which are included on TR1. This, is the official thread for the atlantean lovers to share their ideas and storys which they have learned about these creatures.
The Atlanteans
There are some unique types of atlanteans on TR1 and they will always be remembered by TR1 fans.
Bandaged Atlantean/Cat Mummy

The first encounter of the atlanteans was when the player enters The Tomb Of Qualopec then again in Egypt and in some sense the two pieces of the scion awakes the dead in which are the bandaged atlanteans said to be the guardians of all Burial areas of the three rulers of atlantis, Natla, Qualopec & Tihocan.
These sort of atlanteans have a more friendlier appearence somewhat and stays motionless until the player approaches them in which triggers them to life. They act in the same way as the Mutant Atlanteans using fireballs to rid of intruders.
Atlantean Mutants/ Skinless Atlanteans

A more fearful version of the atlanteans is the skinless mutant, similar to the bandaged atlantean, it can fire fireballs but also it can fire electric bolts too. There are two versionsof this atlantean, one which runs around and another which has a rather sporting pair of wings in which this form is known to knock players down to their doom.
The flying mutant is said to be a more developed mutant than the original one without wings or so should mean that the certain egg/pod was given more energy from the scion to evolve it to much higer stages and so is said from the other mutants too as it starts as a normal atlantean, then could be evolved to a winged atlantean, then to a centuar and then torso.
These mutants are classed as the ones to guard the enterance to atlantis and the great pyramid. They were introduced into the game when Natla uses the power of the scion to ressurect them. They hatch from huge pods which resembles giant yellow eggs and shows the time to hatch when the arm devices on the egg move.
Centaur Atlantean

This atlantean is far more different and more lethal that the other atlanteans, mainly resembling a normal centaur, it could mean that a centaur could have been combined together with atlantean dna to form a more tougher and suitable warrior for the atlantean race.
As soon as this atlantean catches you in it's sight, it will fire fireballs continuesly until Lara is dead or you become out of range of the atlanteans sight. It only can fire fireballs and no bolts but is indeed a lot tougher than any other atlantean except for the torso.
Torso Atlantean

Many to believe that this atlantean is an unfinished version of a new breed of atlanteans as lara tampered with the scion before it had time to develop fully in which triggered all eggs in the great pyramid to hatch earlier than it was programmed for.
Natla was going to use this type of breed as a warrior which was though in a further time ahead if Natla lived on, she would have created more of these breeds but made sure they were completly developed to form the perfect army.
Atlantean Lara/Bacon Lara

There is a very unique atlantean which was created by Natla which is a doppleganger of lara or some people could even say a skinless twin. This atlantean is yet perfectly harmless and dangerous at the same time, It may be that Natla somehow collected some dna of lara (maybe hair) and combined it with the dna of an atlantean therefore explaining why bacon lara knows what move lara is going to perform next.
Fireball/Goo Sack

This is the so called "fireball" which is fired by almost all atlanteans except for the Torso but has now been discovered that what the atlanteans fire is not a fireball, but a Goo Sack which contains bone fragments of the atlanteans, it then ignites when it goes into contact to something hard thus shattering the sack and sending out an explosion.
The location of where the atlanteans fire the sack is on the contraption on their right arm, otherwise known as a fireball launcher to most people in this case. The centuars seem to be capable of firing more of the goo sack's in a certain amount of time than any other atlantean breed.
This information (Except the second paragraph) was discovered by stereopathic from Tomb Raider Forums upon listening to commentaries from the Tomb Of Tihocan on Tomb Raider Anniversary.

This is what the atlanteans of all breeds hatch out of when they are fully developed. It is thought that the pod is somewhat linked into the pyramid and is programed by the scion for how long the dna of what is in the pods should stay in it until it has developed fully. It can be told by the player when the atlanteans have fully developed as the mechanism: two sorts of arms or maybe two umbilical cords which could actually be feeding the atlanteans energy from the scion to develop move up and down to maybe show they are unataching from the egg.

Many people on the forums have believed the pyramid to be a living thing and they ar all right, the great pyramid has gut walls which are beating so if you put it in one sense, the pyramid is the mother of all atlanteans and is breeding them and also nursing them to develop. When venturing in the pyramid, you could say it is the womb of the mother in a sense.

Some people on the forum has thought to believe that the atlanteans Natla created were her own version of the atlantean race thus taking this further on in detail could mean that Tihocan and Qualopec could have also had their own version of atlanteans but were never revived unless a war or disaster occuried in hich the rulers would have used to prevent any disaster falling on atlantis.

One of the rulers of atlantis, after the curse of the continent, or in other words after the meteor struck atlantis, Tihocan decides to split the scion in three, for then it would never again be used for it's destructive nature. Being the main ruler of atlantis, he is in charge of what actions Qualopec and Natla can and cannot take unless either by permission or supervised by him.
Tihocan was the one in which un-done Natla's doing and used the atlanteans for a purpose instead of destruction by putting them into their eternal rest after being directed to the tombs to guard all three rulers.

One of the rulers of atlantis, Qualopec gave shame to Natla as she attempted to kill him with her army and he decided to follow Tihocan's orders and put Natla into her eternal rest. He, also using his piece of the scion showed order in the world and could keep order the warriors of atlantis, in which were the atlanteans.
He uses this army only to protect atlantis and sweared not to use it for the destruction of the world. Over time he used the army to find new areas for atlantis to thrive in and populate in which he found Peru to be a good area for his final resting place and also an area in which he could rule himself.

Many stories are heard about Natla, once being the queen of atlantis she sought to start over, create a new atlantis by destroying the original which still stands up now. Creating a new, more powerful race of atlanteans in which could be more dependant to survive, needed the power of the scion in order to develop. Using the first atlanteans she created with her piece of the scion, she learned that she could create even more powerful versions of atlanteans if she had all of the scion.
Natla then tried to rid of the two rulers, Qualopec and Tihocan in order to obtain the other pieces of the scion but failed as her atlanteans were weak an were destroyed in battle. She was then caught and betraying all of atlantis, she was classed as a threat to atlantis and would thereful shame in the frozen limbo of eternity or in other words be put to her eternal rest.

To create these fearsome creatures, they needed a power source to awaken them from their slumber from deep beneath Atlantis. The only thing capable of this was the scion but since Natla abused it's powers and was using it for her own doing, the other two rulers seperated the scion in order to prevent anyone from ever using the scion to awaken the army of atlantis again and so Natla was frozen to be for all times.
