I'd rather get a GeForce GTX 280 instead of a HD 4850. But I think my GeForce 8800GT will run Underworld with no problems. :)

Good choice in my opinion. Performance per dollar is definitely better with ATI right now.

how much does a graphic card with pixel shader 3.0 worth? in dollars

:D

If its just something that will actually run pixel shader 3 games without being crazy fast, you can get one for as low as $50

True, but I don't suggest going that way. you can get a 9600 GT, which isn't that expensive, yet a great card.

but a 9600 graphic card costs more than $100 .. and i would only buy one to play TRU, and next tomb raider games :D and maybe DMC4

I'm buying it for the PS3, but I do have 512mb 8600 gt... I know it's a little outdated, but would I be able to run it on that.. at least with some of the next-gen features on?

Of course. My friend has the same card and ran Crysis with Medium settings @ 1024 x 768. :)

I wouldn't bother yet. Your current graphics card is more than enough to run this game perfectly smooth. In a few months the price of the card you intend to buy will go down and/or they will release a newer fancier model.

Actually, I've become a little disillusioned with the whole PC graphics racket. If anything interferes with fun of PC gaming, it is all the expensive requirements that mean the games only run on a fraction of machines, endless complications etc etc I love PC games but its all gotten out of hand! The industry is actually suffering greatly because of it. I think the whole thing is scam to pull more and more money out of people whilst improvements in the games are marginal.

I can't wait until GPU's and CPU are merged into one chip! It will cut out the crap.

but i downloaded the DMC4 demo and i couldnt play it cuz my pixel shader is 2.44 and it has to be 3.0 :(..

and my graphic card is 7200 and even 6600 cards have 3.0 ps so i dont get it

That's weird. I think you might have some other non pixel shader related problem. Update all your drivers....

I guess I'll stick with my GeForce 8800GTX and let it have a try before I choose to buy a new card (after all, it went through Crysis on all full without any major problem...)

My computer is already capable of running Crysis at highest possible settings for Windows XP so I believe I can be calm and not worry about my PC. :)

Integrated video cards are low-range video cards that are part of the motherboard, and they are not made for gaming.

I don't know it's too early to tell, but 7200 and 7400 are very limited cards, if you want a cheap card you can get a GeForce 8400, I think it could run TRU, barely.

Encore

So what would probably run TRU, and I mean properly run it, not barely?

irjudd
13-07-08, 00:10
Its probably a good idea to wait for the official system requirements. Having said that, pretty much any Pixel Shader 3.0 card should run it. To run it well though is another story. Depends on just how much you are willing to spend.
