View Full Version : Problem with TR collection

I recently bought the Tomb Raider collection box set brand new (TR I through to AoD. Image HERE (http://i12.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/d5/af/0567_1_b.JPG)) and I've tried installing Tomb Raider I, but that doesn't work. Whenever I click on the shortcut it goes to a black screen and then goes back to the desktop again.

I installed Tomb Raider II and III fine, but the FMVs don't work. It works for about half a second then it'll freeze and I'll only be able to hear the sound and then a couple of seconds later the sound will start to jump and then freeze. I haven't tried the in-game cutscenes yet (the ones that are in in-graphics, not the pre-rendered ones).

EDIT: Ok, I've managed to get TR I working using Glidos. Although I can watch the FMVs, there isn't any sound. Also, I've tried the in-game cutscenes and they work fine.

I also downloaded the multi-patch thing. I installed it for Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III, but it only works for Tomb Raider II. It didn't fix my problems with Tomb Raider III, which are exactly the same as the problems I had with TR II.

EDIT 2: Right, I've managed to get the FMVs to work on TR III now. I just right clicked on the shortcut and selected compatibility mode. However, I don't know how to change the compatibility mode for TR I because I have to run it through Glidos.

As it's a Collection, most likely it contains Sold Out version, therefore no music.

About TR1: Use THIS (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html) guide to install and solve issues. Needs no Compatibility mode change!

About TR2 and TR3: Use TR FMV Fix (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/tr_fmv_fix.zip) to solve FMV issues (just unpack to TR2 and TR3 folder and confirm overwrites).

Generic advice: Use THIS (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/traudio.html) guide to fix Sold Out versions music absence.

If any more issues, run Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and post the report.

Thanks for your help though. :)

By the way, my games aren't Sold Out versions becasue the music works fine (except for there being no sound on TR I FMVs) and there is no mention of Sold Out on the disc or box.

The in-game cut scenes have no sound.
Edit the file Glidos.ini (Program Files\ Glidos): Remove the lines Mp3BackgroundSounds: Yes and Set RedbookEmulation: Yes

You can try VDMSound + DgVoodoo solution for TR1 from the guide - this way you'll get sound for sure.

I can't find the file Glidos.ini in the Glidos program files.

Run Glidos, adjust Audio settings by setting:

Mp3BackgroundSounds: No and Set RedbookEmulation: No

Mad Tony

How do you do that? I ran Glidos and selected "adjust" and then went onto the audio tab but if I select "None" or "Play MP3 Tracks" the sound doesn't work at all.

EDIT: I've just realized that the sound effects don't work at all on TR 1. Only the music does, and that seems to be the best I can get.

^ Try this solution rather than Glidos:

When I try to run dgvoodoo it says "dgvoodoo is set to work as a VDD. You cannot run serverprocess!".

You don't need to run DgVoodoo.exe to use DgVoodoo. Just read THE GUIDE (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html) attentively.

It works now. Thank you very much :)

Sorry to double post, but it turns out it doesn't work. The FMVs work fine but as soon as the introductory one finishes (the ones just before Caves stats), the program just closes down.

EDIT: I clicked on the shortcut for Tomb Raider on my desktop and I unchecked the box which said "Close DOS window on exit". So I started up the game again and the game does the same thing. In the DOS window that's open it says "ERROR: Failed to download texture to 3DFX board".

1. Update your video drivers.

2. You need to read the TR1 FAQ (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html) more attentive. Now uninstall TR1, return to FAQ and reinstall properly.
As you have ATI RADEON video board:

You must follow this step while using TRAI (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/windowsxp2.html)
Option 2: VDD Mode Disabled (ATI cards only)

Now this is important!!! So pay attention. dgVoodoo can be started in two modes. Normally it starts up in VDD mode, but this is a problem for ATI Radeon graphic cards. They will either crash the application or can even reboot the PC when you try and run Tomb Raider. So make sure you tick the box Disable dgVoodoo VDD Mode if you have an ATI card. If this option is selected, an additional Information dialog is displayed by the Installer and Desktop Shortcut Icon for Disable VDD Mode is created:

Double Click on Disable VDD Mode and the Server Process is started (Leave it on the screen). Now double click on the Tomb Raider icon and the game will start. Once you have finished playing TR you can dismiss the Server Process by clicking on the Close button. It is recommended that you tick the option to create a Desktop Icon as this will launch Tomb Raider with VDMSound. ONLY tick setup dgVoodoo if you understand how this program works.

3. Besides ensure that you have TR1 CD in the lowest CD-Drive. You may need to disable CD-emulation software to run TR1 properly.
